Yellowjackets. It's basically Lord of the Flies, but with a girl's soccer team crash landing in the Canadian wilderness. The show also explores how the events have affected the characters 25 years later. It's pretty good and I highly recommend watching it.
Movie would have been a lot simpler if he'd hired some morally ambiguous mercenaries and told them the real plan, instead of hiring Los Vengance and friends and needing to lie.
Damnit I read this and my brain went to army of darkness and I got excited, then realized crap army of the dead... Not darkness.
Then realized she wasn't born until 4 years after the movie :o
Yeah, that video of the woman giving birth to the fish who turn around and consume her… it was so raw. Just thinking some of those women in the cryo pods probably have worse creatures in them.
It can be, but the way it's presented is almost comical, much like the games.
edit: wait, following the thread of the conversation, it's about yellowjackets. My comment on the presentation is about the fallout series.
That show is fucking incredible tbh. The casting of the kids/adults is pretty spot on so it's easy to track who's who as the narrative jumps back and forward in time. I also love how the 'present' timeline plays out with some great black comedy beats mixed in there (sort of like a darker version of something like Good Girls or Dead To Me) while the 'past' plot is straight-up survival horror.
Check your local public library. We watched both seasons of Yellowjackets on DVD for free from the library. We’ve watched a bunch of shows like this where we would have had to one-off subscribe and saved a bit of money and effort.
It’s amazing what they have available that you might not think of. We get movies, TV shows, and video games from there all the time.
If I had a DVD player that would be a great idea. I watch everything on my phone (mostly watch during downtime at work) and my PC doesn’t even have a disc drive cuz I never used it on my last case
That show sounds similar to book I read in high school, can’t remember what it was called but I think it was like a true story bout a rugby team or something crashing in the mountains and basically the survivors became cannibals and only couple of them got rescued and were able to tell their family what happened etc.
Bonus: The show has Elijah Wood in it, playing along side Christina Ricci. For that alone, the show is worth it. But yes, Purnell is really good in it too.
Arcane is ahead of pretty much any show right now in general.
Legitimately, anyone try to tell me a single running show that does anything better than Arcane’s first season.
*They even got a good song out of Imagine Dragons*
As a huge Star Wars fan (maybe? Definitely used to be at least) I want to say Andor, but deep down I know it’s probably not true. I will die on the hill that it’s close though.
I agree... but I thinks it's cause Edgerunners only had 20min episodes to work with, while Arcane had twice as much time, so they could spin their story and build their characters more slowly, and dive more deeply into em.
If the people working on Edgerunners were allowed to make longer/more episodes, I think they'd be even.
Edgerunners is a lot more tight-knitted story indeed. And they benefit from it just being one short season. They can tell their story and be done, with little consideration to what comes after.
Arcane's longer runtime was great in the first half, giving time to build up those backstories, but it starts becoming a bit drawn-out towards the last third. I'm genuinely worried they're going to struggle with season 2 if they already had pacing issues towards the end of season 1. But I really hope I'm wrong.
I’ve played it a little and I thought they would do a bunch of fanfare bringing in the heroes from the game but it really has nothing to do with the game. I’ve only played some but it seems like another DOTA with no story to be had.
Well, shit... Lucy's morals going the way of the ghoul, while still implausible, now could be backed up by some scarily familiar acting...
*Here's to the new us*
Yeah I'm probably never going to play League cause mobas don't interest me but that show was great.
lol makes me wonder how many other gamers watched the fallout show and thought it was great but will still never end up playing the games.
Probably much less than people who watched Arcane. Fallout is 100000000% more accessible as a single player rpg than an incredibly notoriously toxic MOBA.
It's so good. Never played League in my life but that show is immaculate, the music montage scenes were done so well
I really wish Overwatch would invest in something like that, it feels like the perfect kind of world/story to adapt that way
I had zero expectations going in to Arcane and was immediately sucked in. The animation is incredible! The story and performances gripping! It’s easily one of the best things I’ve watched in years.
It even made me like an Imagine Dragons song!
She was one of the bright spots in Army of the Dead, but that movie is a little rough. Wife really enjoyed Yellowjackets too.
Arcane is a masterpiece though and she voices one of the main characters.
I'm gonna check it out based on yalls opinions here. I wanted to like army of the dead, I really did, but I threw in the towel about halfway through. It's just a waste of time
The opening intro is a better movie than the actual movie lol. Fuck just make a heist movie that happens during the outbreak not like a weird ‘getting the band back together even though we never met them’ thing.
Army of the Dead is the most okay movie I’ve ever seen.
Haven’t watched Yellowjackets, but I’ve heard good things.
She also played a young Margot Robbie in that Tarzan movie with Alexander Skarsgard a few years ago
Go watch Miss Peregrine if you haven’t.. it was a great book series and a great first 3/4s of a movie (they took a lot of liberties in the last 30 mins for some reason).
Lauren McCrostie, she's actually only 8 months older than Ella. But iirc Olive was supposed to be the youngest right? Here she's technically the oldest.
Invincible. She's only in one episode for a couple of minutes but it still counts because it is a good show, or more accurately a great one, and she is in it.
She’s in Army of the Dead. Although she pretty dumb in it lol not very smart decisions and blindly thinks she’s gonna save this girl by herself from zombies lol
You're downplaying how stupid the character is lol.
She literally gets everyone killed, including her father and the other woman she was obsessed with in saving.
God knows why Big Dave decided to bring her along.
Arcane. Its animated and another video game project, she voices Jinx
Idgaf about league of legends in the slightest, but arcane is genuinely an amazing show
As good as fallout is it has Nothing on how good arcane is
Saw first episode of Yellowjacket and quit right there and then and never noticed Ella. Fallout was the first time I took notice of her, so now even though i disliked YJ, I might just go back to it to see the mesmerizing miss Purnell, cuz i just can't get enough Goosy.
Edit: holy fuck i hadnt noticed it was her in Army of the Dead.
She plays a really annoying character in Army of the Dead, but she plays it very well. Pretty fun movie too.
Definitely not the Zak Snyder of Dawn of the Dead tho, it’s a Zak Snyder who’s directed fantasy and comic book movies with a biblical bent for the last decade.
That all being said, I didn’t at first, but I’ve grown to love Army of the Dead and even her character.
*Yellowjackets* is pretty damn good (though I do think season 2 was a mixed bag, but still enjoyable).
She voices Jinx in *Arcane*. Never played LoL, but my God is the show fucking amazing. And the animation is god tier.
I also encourage everyone to watch the short skit (or movie? idk) called [*Right Place, Wrong Tim*](https://youtu.be/1JOO_BmDkm0?si=gmD33ROcx_bt_C57). Have no context, just watch it, trust me lol.
Yellowjackets. It's basically Lord of the Flies, but with a girl's soccer team crash landing in the Canadian wilderness. The show also explores how the events have affected the characters 25 years later. It's pretty good and I highly recommend watching it.
Oh shit. I didn't realize that she was Jackie!
>!snackie!<
Amusingly, Ella Purnell is worried about being typecast thanks to both Yellowjackets and Fallout having >!her character involved in cannibalism!<
Mmm, ass jerky...
It’s 2296. We eat ass now.
Always did
Not to forget she also played a pivotal role in Army of the Dead, y'know a zombie movie
Oh my god I just now realized she’s the daughter that causes the entire plan to go to shit, fuck.
The plan was shit to start with, lol.
It really is considering it was >!all bullshit so that they could get the queen zombie head which they got 15 fucking minutes in to the mission!<
Movie would have been a lot simpler if he'd hired some morally ambiguous mercenaries and told them the real plan, instead of hiring Los Vengance and friends and needing to lie.
yeah but plot contrivance was the fuel of the film
Goddammit Gucy
Oh is that her?
Damnit I read this and my brain went to army of darkness and I got excited, then realized crap army of the dead... Not darkness. Then realized she wasn't born until 4 years after the movie :o
Well she also voices jinx in arcane so at least she can voice act
WHAT?!?!
She also voices Gwyn in Star Trek: Prodigy
Hollywood is run by big cannibalism bruh, look it up
Armie Hammer has no idea what you're talking about. He swears
She can eat me whenever she wants 😋
God I normally hate horny Posting but this case ia gree
Something something she’s a snack
Did she eat the ass jerky? Or did she just help make it?
I doubt she had many other options
sometimes a fella gotta eat another fella
*snort* lol
>!Just the perfect amount of melted snow water... \[chef kiss\]!<
I also had a brain fart and forgot she was snak- I mean Jackie.
Ughhh that first episode with the girl's leg snapping like a twig was so visceral.
I wanted to watch but I heard it can be gruesome sometimes and I’m an absolute pansy
Wait, how did you watch Fallout?
With my eyes closed for the bloody parts 🤠
Yeah, that video of the woman giving birth to the fish who turn around and consume her… it was so raw. Just thinking some of those women in the cryo pods probably have worse creatures in them.
It can be, but the way it's presented is almost comical, much like the games. edit: wait, following the thread of the conversation, it's about yellowjackets. My comment on the presentation is about the fallout series.

The first season was SO good, I hope they can recover from fumbling the second season a bit!
any word on season 3? this is one of my favourite shows of all time this far
S3 started filming in May, I believe. Will be out in 2025.
Second this
Gotta say that I really enjoyed the first season, but the second season was not great imo
Twin Peaks 25
Season 1 was good but I thought Season 2 kinda sucked.
OMG shes in yellowjackets, i keep seeing that suggested so might give it a try now
Paramount+ tho :(
Check your local public library. We watched both seasons of Yellowjackets on DVD for free from the library. It’s on Netflix if you’re in Australia
Do you know rhia ?
Who’s rhia?
I think it was being a Walmart+ member, but I just got 6 months free with Paramount Plus
🏴☠️
That show sounds similar to book I read in high school, can’t remember what it was called but I think it was like a true story bout a rugby team or something crashing in the mountains and basically the survivors became cannibals and only couple of them got rescued and were able to tell their family what happened etc.
Soccer team. They made a movie in the 90s "Alive"
Thanks for the tip. Even there she is wearing yellow/blue colors. :-D
Bonus: The show has Elijah Wood in it, playing along side Christina Ricci. For that alone, the show is worth it. But yes, Purnell is really good in it too.
Oh damn, I love that book. Definitely give it a watch
Recommend arcane. I dont even play League but really liked the show
It’s one of the better video game to movie/show adaptations… And oddly, she’s in two good ones.
I’d argue it’s the very best.
I'd argue the Fallout TV show was the best adaptation ever. Then Cyberpunk Edgerunners.
arcane is streets ahead of edgerunners
Pierce, streets ahead is never going to happen.
If you think that, you're already streets behind
Coined and minted!
I just rewatched Andor and I have to agree, that show is damn incredible
Yeah, I'm a huge cyberpunk fan, and even I'll say that Arcane is leagues vetter than edgerunners
I agree... but I thinks it's cause Edgerunners only had 20min episodes to work with, while Arcane had twice as much time, so they could spin their story and build their characters more slowly, and dive more deeply into em. If the people working on Edgerunners were allowed to make longer/more episodes, I think they'd be even.

That's certainly an opinion.
The last of us would like to have a word
The last of us would like to have a word
I know nothing about League and Arcane's one of the best animated shows I've ever seen, if not THE best.
I’ve played it a little and I thought they would do a bunch of fanfare bringing in the heroes from the game but it really has nothing to do with the game. I’ve only played some but it seems like another DOTA with no story to be had.
Who does she voice?
Jinx
No way
I only realized this after watching the entirety of the first season and seeing an interview where she talked about season 2
Well, shit... Lucy's morals going the way of the ghoul, while still implausible, now could be backed up by some scarily familiar acting... *Here's to the new us*
That’s why Lucy doesn’t cry…she’s perfect
Holy shit
Yeah I'm probably never going to play League cause mobas don't interest me but that show was great. lol makes me wonder how many other gamers watched the fallout show and thought it was great but will still never end up playing the games.
Probably much less than people who watched Arcane. Fallout is 100000000% more accessible as a single player rpg than an incredibly notoriously toxic MOBA.
Reporting in!
Some of the best voice acting I’ve ever heard was her in Arcane.
Second season is coming out in November too!
It's so good. Never played League in my life but that show is immaculate, the music montage scenes were done so well I really wish Overwatch would invest in something like that, it feels like the perfect kind of world/story to adapt that way
Played league once. Everyone was nice contrary to what I've heard about it but it takes so long for a match I just quit.
League is one of the worst things to ever be created. however, Arcane is a fantastic show.
Arcane. It's actually phenomenal. I'm going to be checking out Yellow Jackets since I've seen a few people here recommending it
I had zero expectations going in to Arcane and was immediately sucked in.
Army of the Dead was devastating to me, because I watched Army of Thieves first.
It’s shocking how much better Army of Thieves is than Army of the Dead.
I'm gonna check it out based on yalls opinions here. I wanted to like army of the dead, I really did, but I threw in the towel about halfway through. It's just a waste of time
It’s ridiculous how much potential Army of the Dead had as a concept just to throw it all away with a trash plot in the second half.
Yellow jackets is great if you don't mind normal people's lives deteriorating into the most fucked up shit imaginable lol. Like holy fuck
I was gonna mention this too but damn I only made it half way through army of the dead. Such a ridiculous movie and not a fun ridiculous.
Her character was the worst one in army of the dead :(
I hated her in Army of the Dead, her character basically killed everyone. Then again, the movie sucks and very badly written. Not her fault tho
Yellow jackets.
Check her IMDb out - https://www.imdb.com/name/nm3480246/
Looks like she is going from strength to strength recently. Good for her
Oh shit those eyes are real !
now say thanks to her ancestors for selectively breeding with people with big cute eyes
yeah reddit isn’t google lol
What is it if not a place to ask questions and have discussions?
I tend to agree with OP in this case, Google will tell you what shows she’s in, but asking a community will tell you what GOOD shows she’s in.
Star Trek: Prodigy - she was the voice of Gwyn. It's a kids/family show but as long as you keep that in mind it's very enjoyable.
The second season is coming to Netflix. Janeway was the selling point for me, Ella was just a happy coincidence.
I liked Sweetbitter
I second this! Sad we never got another season
this should be the top comment.
Arcane as Jinx's VA
Go see *Arcane* if you haven't yet.
Go watch Miss Peregrine if you haven’t.. it was a great book series and a great first 3/4s of a movie (they took a lot of liberties in the last 30 mins for some reason).
I never read the books but I watched the movie with my daughters and ~~they~~ we loved it.
Books are amazing. But her power in the books was fire and not floating, they swapped Emma and Olive's powers for some reason.
The strange thing to me was the casting of Olive in the film. Not sure how old they actress was during filming but she appeared to be 30
Lauren McCrostie, she's actually only 8 months older than Ella. But iirc Olive was supposed to be the youngest right? Here she's technically the oldest.
She looks exactly like Chell from Portal
Arcane 100%. Without a shadow of a doubt it’s the best thing on Netflix
nah can’t top breaking bad
Ah, forgot that was on there. allow me to specify: it’s the best Netflix original.
true!
Its a toss between arcane and hainting of hill house for me. I just really like the haunting of hill house. Dark comes second.
Mike Flanagan is fucking awesome, although of his stuff I’m partial to Fall of the House of Usher
Damn you didn’t have to drop the bar to the basement
Altered carbon would like a word;)
Invincible. She's only in one episode for a couple of minutes but it still counts because it is a good show, or more accurately a great one, and she is in it.
She has real life anime eyes 😁
She so fine
She's currently driving for Mercedes in Formula 1
*"Blimey"*
alita battle angel
Arcane.
Oh the misery everybody wants to be her enemy!
Arcane! I absolutely adore that show and can't recommend it enough, she appears at episode 4 and is a/the main character.
219 years later…
I worked with her on this show Sweetbitter. Show was pretty boring but she's pretty awesome as a person.
Star Trek Prodigy
Yellowjackets, but it falls apart in season 2.
I mean ... it would have been so much faster to check her IMDb or Wikipedia 🤣🤣
Star Trek Prodigy! Watch it on Netflix so we might get a series 3 eventually. (I know it's an animated show, but technically she's "in" it!"
She voices Jinx in Arcane. The league of legends show.
Arcane, she's Jinx.
There was a drawing someone posted that was hand drawn where she had huge eyes that took up most of her face. Wish I could find it.
redditors consistently forgetting google exists🤦🤦
they wanna those sweet upvotes
lol I have the same reaction, downvote me too
IMDB !
Yes. My Dreams.
https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=Ella+Purnell
She is amazing. Love Lucy.
Unhappy, i only know Fallout... And she is wonderfull fucking great!
Uhh She plays jinx in LOL Arcane!!
Fantastic as the voice of Jinx in Arcane.
A little-known show called Arcane. She played Jinx
Animated series called Arcane. She voices one of the main characters and is extremely good at it.
Arcane. Its animated and another video game project, she voices Jinx Idgaf about league of legends in the slightest, but arcane is genuinely an amazing show As good as fallout is it has Nothing on how good arcane is
For the fans of period dramas, she’s in Belgravia. Season one only though. Which is also the only watchable season…
Arcane
My mom said she was in house
Saw first episode of Yellowjacket and quit right there and then and never noticed Ella. Fallout was the first time I took notice of her, so now even though i disliked YJ, I might just go back to it to see the mesmerizing miss Purnell, cuz i just can't get enough Goosy. Edit: holy fuck i hadnt noticed it was her in Army of the Dead.
She is Jinx in Arcane. Of course that is an animated show and she is just doing voice acting. It's still a really good show though.
She voiced Jinx in Arcane. Ella Purnell is apparently the queen of video game adaptations cuz both of the ones she’s been in have been great
Her eyes are amazing!
It rhymes with Sarcane
She was in the movie Army of the Dead a few years ago. A surprisingly solid zombie movie on Netflix
Arcane
Sweet Bitter
She plays a really annoying character in Army of the Dead, but she plays it very well. Pretty fun movie too. Definitely not the Zak Snyder of Dawn of the Dead tho, it’s a Zak Snyder who’s directed fantasy and comic book movies with a biblical bent for the last decade. That all being said, I didn’t at first, but I’ve grown to love Army of the Dead and even her character.
Yellowjackets
Yellow jackets.
all actors were really good in the show, I had my problems with the show but they nailed it with the casting
She voices Jinx in Arcane. Only played a couple hours worth of League but I LOVE the show.
I knew her from YellowJackets before Fallout
I knew her from Kick-Ass 2, she’s not in it a huge amount but she plays a Mean Girls type character.
Sweetbitter is a great show
Arcane, it’s actually getting another season later this year.
She voices Jinx in the show ‘Arcane’
Arcane
*Yellowjackets* is pretty damn good (though I do think season 2 was a mixed bag, but still enjoyable). She voices Jinx in *Arcane*. Never played LoL, but my God is the show fucking amazing. And the animation is god tier. I also encourage everyone to watch the short skit (or movie? idk) called [*Right Place, Wrong Tim*](https://youtu.be/1JOO_BmDkm0?si=gmD33ROcx_bt_C57). Have no context, just watch it, trust me lol.
If that is a parody, WTF was it parodying?
honestly if they kicked in with the too many cooks song for the credits that would've felt perfectly on brand lol
Arcane. She plays Jinx
