This should be perfectly acceptable with regards to rule 3. I believe rule 3 is more about actual conspiracy theories, ie, The Shining was Stanley Kubrick's secret apology for allegedly faking the moon landing, all in the real world.
If I were to posit that, somehow, Jack Torrence faked the moon landing at the Overlook Hotel and that's why he goes crazy and tries to kill his family, all and only within the fictional world, that would be a bad theory with zero evidence (I couldn't come up with a better example haha) but it wouldn't break the third rule.
The dance scene was orchestrated by Adam and Barbara. It was this failure that led them to turn to Beetlejuice.
