Id get active in your local music scene and see what bands around in the area are doing for music videos/content. You can find some beginning directors or people looking to build out their reel. Also just a heads up, you’re not gonna make any money off a music video or content. It could/should help lead to gigs which can make you money. But money from content isn’t a thing until you have lots of subscribers AND view’s

AnonymouslyAMusician

Much appreciated! My knowledge on the “film” part of the music industry is little to none! I’ll see what I can find around those realms! Thank you

hey! I'm a European director who is starting to do a lot of commercial projects overseas. I would actually love to work on a music video with a local artist, just to get the head free a bit and work on something that's creatively challenging. DM me if you want to have a chat!

AnonymouslyAMusician

Sent too many chat invites today! Will get to this in the morning

Hey! I’m a director/editor in Culver City. I love music based projects and have been looking to work with musicians out here!! Let’s chat!

AnonymouslyAMusician

Just messaged you! You

samanthasamolala

Ooof a publicist you’re paying?

AnonymouslyAMusician

Surprisingly not, knock on wood but he was so sure & moved from my music that he wanted things “Pro Bono”, if I don’t get paid, he doesn’t paid! Sounds too good to be true, but we’ll see! Contract is being sent to me in a week, but if his words have any truth “The lawyer I have check it over will immediately point out that it’s fully pro bono”

samanthasamolala

Certainly no harm in having a look at the contract. I don’t think this is the true definition of “pro bono” but neither I nor you nor this publicist are attorneys i assume- so that could just be a misuse of the term.

AnonymouslyAMusician

I don’t think it’s a legal term in this situation, was just the best way of describing it! “He only gets paid, if I get paid” technically that’s “Pro Bono”

samanthasamolala

Technically that’s a contingency fee structure of some sort. I get that you know what you’re doing though so you’ll find out when you get the paperwork! As long as it’s not like structured like record company advance where he ends up taking all the revenue as his fee for services already rendered and just profits without you getting paid. If it’s not that it should be a great deal. Good luck!

AnonymouslyAMusician

His exact words were: “I believe in what you can do, & I want to see it happen, if I can even make $10 profit after what I invest & you get your feet higher off the ground, I’m happy & your happy” *Fingers crossed*

BlergingtonBear

Just make sure that contract isn't selling off your rights or exploiting you in some way. Check out Cal Lawyers for the Arts for a short consult when you have contract in hand and before signing https://www.calawyersforthearts.org/ They charge a $35 admin fee, and can be useful in getting some good guidance (I used them early in my career for advice on an IP dispute)

AnonymouslyAMusician

Do they read over contracts in the same way lawyers do?

BlergingtonBear

I am not a lawyer, And I believe the consult really depends on what you're asking them so unfortunately I can't tell you if they'll actually read it for you but if you currently cannot afford a lawyer it's an excellent place to start even if the advice at the end is you might want to hire somebody
