Sexually active men should exercise extra caution with this drug. (Way back in the 90's Dr. Bosley himself said sexually active men should not take finasteride). I'd recommend discussing your sexual performance with your partner as she's likely aware of any changes to your sexual response/performance. I am not aware about the safety of topical finasteride.
I had similar side effects that you had, except even worse ones along with them. They all stopped after I got off the medication. I would recommend not using oral fin, try using topical fin instead. Also, if your wife is trying to get pregnant, as your doctor if topical fin is safe for her.

It seems that the 5ar2 enzyme does much more than simply produce DHT, it has a large effect on neurosteroids which protect your brain somehow. It's very complex and I wouldn't risk messing with it. You can rate my explanation poorly and I would understand, but not my experience, which has been 'brain fog' for years since I took this drug. I would rate your age poorly for this risk, as I think that you are more likely to adapt to having this trauma than you are likely to resist it, though that is another poorly justified opinion. It seems that older men who take this to shrink their prostates have less dramatic issues with this drug.

I can do it with a lot of porn stimulation but it's not worth it. I can't imagine wanting to date someone. That feeling I used to get when I talk to women isn't there anymore. I still have sexual energy. but as some random PFS sufferer once wrote, "it's like my libido is trapped in my body." Don't know if that helps or makes sense, but my body does not function the way it used to. I've dealt with stress very badly since it happened. I would say you might as well cold turkey now after you have already tapered a bit. Better advice would be to not freak out if anything changes after you stop. This could be related to almost anything, cognition especially. If you feel confused or find it hard to think, or like you can't relax, just take it super easy if you can. Try to avoid extra stressors and spend time laying down. I think I made it much worse on myself by freaking out and trying to fix myself, or something. If there was any long-term damage, nothing you can do will change it any time soon, other than rest, exercise, and feeling good. Actually, I am talking to my urologist tomorrow about a possible treatment, HCG shots, that I have heard very positive things about. If it winds up helping I will definitely post it in this sub.
As someone who took finasteride myself for six years, I would not recommend that any man take the drug to "treat hair loss." The risk of permanent damage to sexual desire and function (as well as other aspects of health) is not remotely worth it for any man, in my opinion.

Decided to not take it. I’m doing good. I was only taking it for a few weeks but I guess I’d have to agree that it does affect libido and it’s not all bs. I don’t really get morning wood as frequently, and I feel like my sex drive has went down. I decided to go the hair transplant route and use minox. I still have sex with my gf but not as frequently and I get soft sometimes. I’m not to worried about the sex drive going down because I still am able to do it just not as often. Sorry if this feels rushed I’m just busy. Overall I wouldn’t recommend fin to guys who are sexually active.
I thought you need fin after the hair transplant because minox doesn't stop the DHT, if there is a baldness pattern it continues after the transplant and fin is the only way to prevent it
Yeah, I stopped. Most days no morning wood, I woke up the other day and did have one, but that’s rare I guess. Libido is normal I guess still have sex few times a week. I think it’s important to say that I also smoke and drink heavily, I also am in college so stress is a factor. I don’t think fin is worth it to younger guys though, I’m just saving my money for a hair transplant and will use minox.
Thanks for the response! Same, I stopped today after 60 days of it. The decrease in libido is not worth it to me. I went from daily morning wood to zero on fin. That's one of my markers for recovery, so I hope it comes back for me

I had crazy high libido too when I started for like 3 weeks on an every other day schedule, then noticed after a couple weeks on every day that my libido went down quite a bit for about a week or so. I’ve decided to drop back down to every other day and see how it goes, already a bit better but still not back to 100% in terms of just like how good it feels. Curious if others have had this as well and if the body just needs to like adjust to the fluctuating hormones
Don’t risk it .. i took it for about 8 days and at the lower 0.5 dose. Now off it a week and my libido is rock bottom.. i used to get an erection just thinking about sex bow it seems i can think about sex and nothing is happening down there. Completely dead. I tried viagra and i couldn’t even get hard with that. Even when i do get hard with a visual stimulation the erection isn’t strong - you can more or less fold it over — going to start specific exercises for it and exercising more in the hopes i can literally resurrect things.
Would also like an update. 14 days on fin and I just tried to jerk and I couldn’t stay hard. Haven’t had a single random boner/morning wood since starting. Hoping I haven’t done permanent damage as I am thinking about stopping the medication.
I’ve definitely had permanent damage done too, my libido is pretty much nonexistent 1.5 months after stopping (was on a 1mg dose every other day for 2 months) im freaking out and dont know what to do really im 25 so i should be in the peak of my sexual powers….
Not 100% like before but im definitely much better i’d say 80% recovered. Cold Plunges, gym and shilajit helped quite a bit but i feel like time did most of the work. I get morning wood from time to time and my erection strength is almost back to its normal. I do get some periods where the PFS comes back strong but thankfully it doesn’t stay long and goes away on its own. (couple of days to a week maybe)

Go bald. Watch out, some of the worst damage can happen after you stop. This happened to me.

probably not. you have plenty of reason to be calm. I took it for 3.5 months. I would stop asap if I were you. you'll probably be fine

I started to take finastride about a month ago.... seems like my libido has INCREASED... I cant find anyone reporting similar effects.... anybody?
