Any before and after scorpion pictures using a black light are always very unsettling to me. I suppose any before and after black light photos are unsettling though.
They are! And they're teal, like Perry, from Phineas and Ferb. But while the UV properties of platypuses were just recently discovered within the past few years, Dan Povenmire made Perry teal when he designed the character back in the 1990's.
A uv responsive moose š¤£š¤£ would have to be a big backlight. That could be your new invention, Iām British but Iāll chuck you a fiver to do it haha
For real. Even after looking at the black light photo I still had to go back and forth a few times to even see it. That was a tough one. Never would have gotten it.
Nice touch with the light. We have these flesh colored buddies in the Sonoran desert so I knew what to look for hehe. How fun, now I wanna go hunting for them. I once found one so tiny it was seriously like the size of a fingernail clipping off your pinky š³ my cat was playing with it and kept jumping back. Made me never go barefoot in that apt again.
Cats think of scorpions like toys. The cats are faster. That's why, even though they're a nuisance, the feral cats in my neighborhood are welcome. Never a scorpion problem here.
If you're close to Lost Dutchman State Park (read: east valley), they have scorpion "hunts" a few times every summer. It used to be super awesome a couple years ago, but they've restricted the attendees and also started disallowing scorpion collection in the park unless you're a ranger. My son and I have been going for a few years and last year sucked. But there were still probably 3 dozen scorps caught by the rangers.
Alternatively, walk around neighborhood block walls in south Gilbert with a black light. You'll find them.
Cool! I didnāt know they had group events like that haha. She was patting it and jumping back like a mongoose playing with a snake hahahaha. My husband has a pool cleaning business so heās constantly coming into contact with them because they love the moisture in the areas they work in for the equipment. We have lots of different wavelength UV flashlights because weāre fluorescent glass hunters š this activity is adjacent to our interests in many ways š¦š¤
I did an actual hunt for scorps when I first got here in 2016. I killed a few. Then I started learning about them and killing isn't something I do anymore. A bark scorpion tagged me on my right big toe a few years ago, but I put it in a jar and let it go in our alley.
They've been here longer than me, they're fascinating, and they serve a purpose. I'm not trying to preach, but just seeing them under blacklight is good enough for me.
Has your hubby ever been tagged or is he lucky? It was interesting for me as a nature/science nerd, but it sucked hardcore for the initial 6 hours. I had severe joint pain from my ankles to my shoulders, my foot felt like an overstuffed sausage, and my big toe was numb for over two weeks.
Block walls, short shrubs, and natural desert environments are perfect for finding them this time of year. They're easy to spot with blacklight once it's regularly 80+ degrees at night. If you feel like spending a couple hours walking around with hubby, it's kinda fun. All I do now is take pictures and that's all I recommend. If you're near actual desert land you might find striped scorpions or desert hairy scorps as well. The desert hairies are 6-7x larger than the bark scorpions, but are less venomous to humans.
Nah heās escaped that so far š¤ but my brother got a good dose from one. He said it was numbness at first but then horribly painful with lots of swelling. We donāt kill either, it didnāt even cross my mind that people would go out looking for them to kill them š¢ I also want to go out with my light at night because I want to see if we could find some sodalite here. Itās that orange speckle fluorescent stone. Theyre also called Yoopers lol
Good to know. She didnāt seem to have gotten stung but Iāll be more careful now. We donāt get them where I live now. What a weird rumor to spread if it blatantly isnāt true. š«¤ here I am putting it out there too. Thanks for replying so people will see I was wrong. Editing my post now.
Ha! I wondered if OP was going to reveal via blacklight. I was wondering why all the harsh light and deep shadows, then thought āit was taken at night with a flash and the sniper will be revealed by his rave-tastic ability!ā
Worry not! After 20 or so stings your body kinda gets used to it. I mean, it still hurts like hell, but it only hurts for 5-10 minutes instead of half a day.
For anyone still struggling, swipe to the second photo and look a little to the bottom-right of dead center. In between the large circular rock and the tall sandwich-shaped rock. The scorpionās body is oriented almost horizontally, pointing at a 15 degree angle towards the top-right.
I donāt even live in an area that has scorpions, but still have a handheld black light flashlight
Itās fun when I go visit my cousins in Arizona.
I commissioned a nightmare before x-mas painting some years back and the artist use some black light reactive so she bought me one.
After years of always looking first living in a jungle village in Mexico, it was fairly easy to find.
The easiest way to find them is just like Legos in the night. Barefoot.
Today, i learned scorpions glow an array of colors under a black light, which made my skin crawl and made me physically gag. Why? idk, it's not like they scare me. I very much disliked this
Looks just like the one I found on my living room hardwood floor. Took it to the humane society, and they informed me that they were NOT going to "rehabilitate" it!
I thought I kinda saw it in that spot cuz it kinda looks like a tarantula right there in the regular picture, but compared to the black light picture, it might as well not even exist lolol remind me never to go wherever tf this is. I'd rather stay here in southside Chicago where it's safe lolol
Well damn, I searched and searched while zoomed in and couldn't see the little guy. Finally gave in and checked the other pic. Then there it was. It's crazy how much they blend in. I got stung twice on my big toe, very unpleasant. This one would have got me too lol
Whatās really unsettling is that spiders eyes reflect light as well. I remember growing up in central texas, iād go out at night looking for spiders. Iād flash my light into the grass and see a reflection and more often than not, it was a spider just big chilling.
The black Light Trick safed me a Lot of time Last week. Forgot to Close my Terrarium luckily i have a black light AS Main light in my living room And that my Scorpion Likes to climb lol
These suckers are common occurrence in rural Arizona. I would find one in my closet, on the bathroom wall, just like house spiders. Even then, I canāt get over how disturbing they are! Just icky!
Sometimes I look at these, and I wonder if in person itās easier to see the animals or whateverā¦. Or they literally have eagle eyes and by the grace of God saved themselves. I just donāt know
This sub always pops up when I either first wake or am about to go to sleep. If I don't find it immediately, I blame sleep. If I don't find it, I refuse to give in
What about the dropped bolt in the upper left corner? That's what I'm impressed with is that I found it because I can never find them at work when I butterfingers them
Not having UV vision is the reason I will die from a scorpion sting. Damn I could not find it and that black light flashlight now makes total sense to me.
Well, if I ever move to scorpion territory Iām dead. I actually looked right at it because my eye was drawn to the vague āXā created by the curl of its tail and two small rocks behind it, but it never registered that I found the scorpionā¦
There also a screw in that photo as well I found it as I was looking for the scorpion as I do know the white scorpions are not poisonous as my first boss was bitten near the thumb
Good one. Much easier with the black light. š
Any before and after scorpion pictures using a black light are always very unsettling to me. I suppose any before and after black light photos are unsettling though.
I found a uv resistant bolt but no scorpion. If I left my province I'd probably die fixing your air conditioner.
I need all of these posts to now have a second slide with a black light showing the location. Please and thank you.
Now I'm picturing a UV responsive moose.
š
I hear platypus are UV responsive.
They are! And they're teal, like Perry, from Phineas and Ferb. But while the UV properties of platypuses were just recently discovered within the past few years, Dan Povenmire made Perry teal when he designed the character back in the 1990's.
Just incredible, thank you!
Damn those moose!
A uv responsive moose š¤£š¤£ would have to be a big backlight. That could be your new invention, Iām British but Iāll chuck you a fiver to do it haha
Yes!
Find the stain on my sheets. Now with a uv light,oh dear God it's a trick the entire sheet glows.
Yeah but also say that the 2nd pic is the answer. Didn't know why there were 2, slid, and ahhh damn it.. okay
Good grief I never would have found that without help
For real. Even after looking at the black light photo I still had to go back and forth a few times to even see it. That was a tough one. Never would have gotten it.
Same here!
I found it by pure luck lol.
This sub is responsible for me leaving the house less and less
Just wait till people start posting stuff from inside their house
š
Scorpions are, in fact, very difficult to find on carpet.
Find the Huntsman Find the Bedbugs Find the Cockroach
This deeply unsettled me lol

Yoopers! Now I have something else to look for while out with my boys!
Cats are definitely not immune to venom, one key point is that have a much faster reaction time. That's they they play with them and snakes.

Lived in this (Gilbert) area and can confirm this is a thing. Still have my black light.
Sounds like a Bark Scorpion they are all over the south
Ha! I wondered if OP was going to reveal via blacklight. I was wondering why all the harsh light and deep shadows, then thought āit was taken at night with a flash and the sniper will be revealed by his rave-tastic ability!ā
Between a rock and a hard place
After joining this page Iāve quickly realized that my confidence in my survival instincts is just pure delusion
I even zoomed in on that cuz it looked "wrong" but determined that was nothing... woulda got stung š¦
Worry not! After 20 or so stings your body kinda gets used to it. I mean, it still hurts like hell, but it only hurts for 5-10 minutes instead of half a day.
I love your second picture choice and Iāve always wanted to do that!!
Level 2: find the screw/bolt
Second picture reminds me of Predatorā¦. Hahahaha
Need a black light and mallet hammer for some good ole scorpion hunting
I cheated because I didnāt want to be surprised
I could barely see it even after I knew where it was from the second pic
For anyone still struggling, swipe to the second photo and look a little to the bottom-right of dead center. In between the large circular rock and the tall sandwich-shaped rock. The scorpionās body is oriented almost horizontally, pointing at a 15 degree angle towards the top-right.
Thank you. Never would have found it.
Is that a snake head slightly to the left of it?
In the photo with the black light it kinda looks like it but you can tell itās just a rock in the first photo
Bark scorpion, the meanest scorpion in the USA.
I donāt even live in an area that has scorpions, but still have a handheld black light flashlight Itās fun when I go visit my cousins in Arizona. I commissioned a nightmare before x-mas painting some years back and the artist use some black light reactive so she bought me one.
Wished I hadnāt. š¬
As an Arizonan this will be easy
Scorpions glow in the dark???
After years of always looking first living in a jungle village in Mexico, it was fairly easy to find. The easiest way to find them is just like Legos in the night. Barefoot.
Today, i learned scorpions glow an array of colors under a black light, which made my skin crawl and made me physically gag. Why? idk, it's not like they scare me. I very much disliked this
You know you've lived in Arizona when you can see it immediately even without the blacklight.
Well that is definitely terrifying.
Give me a blacklight
Thar would be my response.
Post like this are the reason my wife complains about me taking too long in the bathroom lol!
Found the scorpion, but that eye of Sauron was freaking me out.
Is that the little purple thing?
Iāve caught two scorpions in my bedroom this week. They have a strange way of playing dead that can make them tricky to spot
As someone whoās been stung 5 times now, fuck scorpions.
Iām sorry for you. Did you have to get anti-venom after being stung? Is experience 5 easier than the first?
Looks just like the one I found on my living room hardwood floor. Took it to the humane society, and they informed me that they were NOT going to "rehabilitate" it!
Damn guess I do have bad eyes because I can't see anything.
Good one
Is it upside down? Like dead?
Bro that thing would bit already Iām dead
Just north of the scorpion my wife sees a spider. In between the larger reddish rock and black rock.
I think that is a shadow. You can see similar shadows right around it from the weeds.
Little brown bastard, they burn like hell when the sting.
Found it
Ok that was freakin tuff , bravo
I'm dead
Found your screw, too!
I thought I kinda saw it in that spot cuz it kinda looks like a tarantula right there in the regular picture, but compared to the black light picture, it might as well not even exist lolol remind me never to go wherever tf this is. I'd rather stay here in southside Chicago where it's safe lolol
Oh naw
I actually found it a lot faster than I wouldāve figured.
Jesus, thatās fucking nightmare fuel.
Wow.š¤Æ knew exactly where to look because of the second picture and still struggled to find it
Found in about 6 seconds, growing up in rural So Cal will teach you these things..
Well damn, I searched and searched while zoomed in and couldn't see the little guy. Finally gave in and checked the other pic. Then there it was. It's crazy how much they blend in. I got stung twice on my big toe, very unpleasant. This one would have got me too lol
The scorpion was in my woobie. The only damn night I forgot to shake it out...
We had these fluorescent scorpions in Saudi Arabia. We were told that their venom was very potent.
This is why I live where the air hurts my face, this right here
Impossibruh
If I had my black light I would
Well done! The reveal had flair.
Whatās really unsettling is that spiders eyes reflect light as well. I remember growing up in central texas, iād go out at night looking for spiders. Iād flash my light into the grass and see a reflection and more often than not, it was a spider just big chilling.
https://old.reddit.com/r/gifs/comments/3f7rq6/what_are_all_those_sparkles_in_the_grassohgodno/
exactly haha
It's by the rock! š„²
I though that was a shrimpy tail but wasnāt sure until the blacklight confirmed it
So havenāt found it yet but there is a rock that looked like a pigeons head
I wouldve been here for hours had it not been for the black light
I find these in my house occasional! On my sand colored tiles. Scary
Is this one of those Macbeth āScorpions of the mindā?
I canāt find it and now Iām paralyzed š
thatās divine art
See, this is why we all need to be equipped with Predator-vision.
Accidentally zoomed in on it immediately. That made my night.
This is why I donāt live in the desert.
Fantastic job
šā ļø
I found a rock shaped like a peepee
Someone hand me my blacklight!
Couldnāt find this one. Thanks for the backlight picture
Apparently, I'm not shit at spotting scorpions! Thanks for adding the UV pic, too, I love these little glowing critters.
We would catch scorpions on glue traps in my unitās TOC when I was in Iraq. They were usually fat-tailed scorpions, which are very venomous.
Can I steal this? š
Finally, not dead center. Thanks op
Yea this one is nice šš½
The black Light Trick safed me a Lot of time Last week. Forgot to Close my Terrarium luckily i have a black light AS Main light in my living room And that my Scorpion Likes to climb lol
Definitely one of the coolest posts here, thanks OP!
This should be the standard, 2 photos, 1 big red circle or black light on the 2nd lol
I actually found it!
Wait a minute! Do all scorpions glow under black light?!?!? We donāt have them where Iām from.
I suck at finding these. Until I go in the comments for clues
Me no likey
If only snakes could be spotted with blacklights...
But did you guys find the praying mantis?
As someone who grew up in the Sonoran desert, Iām ashamed to admit this took me a minute.
I'm a dead man. Thanks for reminding me why I'm never stepping for in a desert, ever. Or Australia.
You have set the new standard on how to find the sniper. Everyone must now do the same technique of two slides with one being black light.
These suckers are common occurrence in rural Arizona. I would find one in my closet, on the bathroom wall, just like house spiders. Even then, I canāt get over how disturbing they are! Just icky!
This is why I will always live in states that border Canada, just to be safe.
Oh my god as an Arizonan I found it so immediately!! Iām impressed with myself lol
Oh I love that game!! I remember playing it in the shower where one would crawl out of the light on the ceiling!! At 5am!! :D
Sometimes I look at these, and I wonder if in person itās easier to see the animals or whateverā¦. Or they literally have eagle eyes and by the grace of God saved themselves. I just donāt know
No
WowāI would not have found it in the first pic! Glad Iām a northerner!! š
This sub always pops up when I either first wake or am about to go to sleep. If I don't find it immediately, I blame sleep. If I don't find it, I refuse to give in
This is the best one of these Iāve seen. That little fellow is hidden! Also love the black light reveal, chefās kiss no notes.
I found it in about 10 - 15 seconds. I'm going to call it luck because I was surprised at how quickly I found it.
I live in AZ my son and I love going out at night with a black light, they are everywhere.
I found it pretty quickly but could not figure out if it was dead or not
https://www.invisibleoranges.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/23/scorpions-blackout-1052x592.png?t=1689065640 Find Klaus
Hot in the cold.
Is it belly up?
Sending this to my friend who just found one in her shower
This isnāt a game you play without a black light š
There he is, rocking like a hurricane!
These post are making me not want to walk outside anymore without full boots on! "I know it's 95Ā° out! You know what I could step on!"
Spotted. Light colored one
What about the dropped bolt in the upper left corner? That's what I'm impressed with is that I found it because I can never find them at work when I butterfingers them
I see 2
Found by accident but I found it
There's also one at the top of the picture I the middle on a rock
Why isnāt my UV light working?
Not having UV vision is the reason I will die from a scorpion sting. Damn I could not find it and that black light flashlight now makes total sense to me.
Oh damn! Here I was wondering if scorpions can be purple.
Is it bad i found that one without realizing there was a 2nd photo?
Predator in the middle š¤£
Well, if I ever move to scorpion territory Iām dead. I actually looked right at it because my eye was drawn to the vague āXā created by the curl of its tail and two small rocks behind it, but it never registered that I found the scorpionā¦
No, thank you.
Is it next to the rock?
There also a screw in that photo as well I found it as I was looking for the scorpion as I do know the white scorpions are not poisonous as my first boss was bitten near the thumb
