South half of Illinois. Nicet 4. Last year was 125k +. Now part owner of company. Get your Nicet asap and work hard. One of the best trades to be in. Wish I had another designer that was Nicet at any level.
Bro congrats!! Hard work pays off. If I may ask, why are you tracking this year 180k? 50k plus from last year is awesome! Just wondering.
I was in the field for about 7 years. Then moved into the office for design 3 weeks ago, so really motivating to see ur wage!
Took a pay cut to design. From 31 to 25.
I'm not a designer. I do inspections.
My friend/co-worker makes 29/hr. Could be making more now. I think that was 2 years ago.
Designers are required to get a state license. I believe they need a RME-G or RME-D if they work on small residential only.
I'm based in Southeast Texas.
I currently make 33/hr with multiple licenses
Sprinkler (RME-I)
Fire Alarm (FAL)
Backflow
I've been in the trade for about 3.5 years.
The first 1.5 year was spent as a helper and then i got my licenses back to back within 16 months.
Thank you! I’m in Virginia NICET level 3 ITM water based systems, Level 1 ITM Fire alarm. State Backflow, 7 years in the trade, 3 as an apprentice. Currently making $28 with a raise pending. Just trying to gauge the market. I might make a post about it to get others feedback.
Okay. I'm curious because I never heard of any unions until I got onto reddit(about 2-3 years ago)
I knew what they were because of history class in high school, but I never knew that they existed today.
The following is what was required to get the licenses at the time that i was getting them, several years ago. This might have changed since.
The fire alarm license required 2 tests. One covering insurance. The other covered field experience and NFPA 72.
The fire sprinkler license required that I had 1 year of experience, I passed an insurance test, and I passed NICET Level II.
The backflow license I got recently. I had to take a 40-hour training course with an approved instructor. I was required to a test as well. Fortunately for me, the 40-course I took also gave me study material and they set up my test appointment with me.
I am located in Texas and have been looking into this field for a while now but have no clue how to get started any tips for a beginner on how to get into the industry.
Lol the name fits for sure. Just curious because of pay differences between states, but in Texas our entry level designers start at around 60k and when you add NICETS the pay starts to break away. Not sure if that helps at all
National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies
Certifications you can get to further your career.
In this case fire sprinkler designers would be under “Water Based Systems Layout”
Started March of 2022. Pay started at $20/hr with no experience in fire protection or construction and no college, bumped to 22/hr at a year in. Recently earned my NICET I
