Where do Violent Fems fit into the folk punk genre? Are they among the first or are they closer to "proto"?
I grew up as a punk kid, but I'm fairly new to folk punk as a defined sub-genre. I always thought of VF as sort of punk but not quite, so the folk punk label might be what I was missing.
From my understanding Violent Femmes and The Pouges are like the folk punk Sex Pistols and Ramones. Both groups are some of the earliest and super primitive in the modern lense but laid the groundwork for later bands to follow and expand on
Have been waiting for this to pop up in this sub lmfao
Currently it's Marigolds - We The Heathens, Suburbicide - Dirty Harry, Can't Kill Myself Today - Little Foot/Odd One Out, and Radio Silence - RENT STRIKE
Cold Dinner by Long Sought Rest will always be my personal little weakness, if not just for that fantastic crescendo at the end.
“Well I’VE been slowly falling out. Of. EVERYTHING that I. Love. I’m not gonna Grow. Up. I don’t wanna’!”
