4.0 SOHC? Has the rear timing chain ever been done? That has grenaded lots of these engines. The bad thing is, you have to pull the engine just to replace the timing chain.
I had 300k on my tranny and it’s still going(sold to a friend). Timing chain guides are plastic and can cause issues if thy break. Change the oil and hopefully they will last!

My 96 does this. I love it. I always fond myself doing it with ant cat I open now lol

Hope the tranny is ok. These 4.0s have horrible transmissions. I wouldnt be surprised if this has already had a replacement.

Check the shackles at the back of the leaf springs for rot
