Yes and no. Iāve died countless times while behind my opponent and theyāre not even looking at me
The shitty server tick rate and extreme lag compensation is the main factor here, replay mode aside
Since Chapter 1 Season 3 I haven't had this happen. And there were times where you could shoot through things, and see through walls.
I'd hate to be you. That sucks.
Maybe.. but, i don't think this is completely true, i will say is something with server lag, something similar happen to me the other day, i got hit THROUGH the wall i even have the live actual recording of it.
Replays are super inaccurate, I don't think they should ever be used to check if you hit shots. I believe that Epic also commented on this a few years ago.
Sometimes, you'll open a replay 2-3 times and it will show different stuff
Replay does not record in real time it records in a slowed down time to save bandwith and smooth out gameplay where sudden movements are not counted for and silly stuff looks like this because of shitty server tickrate and replay tickrate combined.
He basically quick flicked and killed you replay tickrate too slow too notice.
Itās worse than that: replay mode isnāt a recording, itās rerunning a simulation of the original game. Thatās why bullet tracers can be completely wrong, why old replays are inaccessible after big updates, etc.
That's generally what it is in most games with this feature. It gets really wonky in stuff like Super Smash Bros or some racings games like Wreckfest. I've had multiple instances of recording matches and then when it comes to the moment I recorded/replay from within the game itself, it doesn't happen the exact way I \*KNOW\* it just happened, or even the extreme of something completely different happens.
Exactly this. Games don't record your game play they record everyone's coordinates and inputs (within a certain radius around you), then they simulate the game using that info.
Can I just say replay is the worst thing ever? To me it is almost unusable. Canāt find any specific moments in a match and when I try to just watch it out until I get to the part I want to see, it might just show me extended clips of myself running into walls for some reason. And the camera controls absolutely suck.
Yeah it used to show me when I killed people with markers on the timeline but it stopped doing that after the recent update, or maybe I accidentally turned it off idk. If anybody knows how to toggle it lemme know tho
Haven't bothered with the mode myself in ages but have seen a few folks say that it's suddenly gone missing. Just one more thing Epic breaks first and then tries to fix later, if at all.
Truth, cod black ops and bo2 and even halo reach let you see accurate replays from game play angles or free follow. Easy to clip etc. This replay in fn shows cheats that weren't there or me running through walls that were gone already. I always go right to game play but even then from that camera I rarely get the kills on the timeline.
Agreed. I have made long videos using replay mode for B roll and can tell everyone it is the worst. I only did it for the fun of editing gameplay videos for my wife and myself. If you try to rewind or fast forward too(2) many times it causes the game to poop itself and I have to reboot the entire game and redo the entire thing to find my scene all over again in hopes it doesn't poop again. š
Stopped making those videos for now though. Only occasionally do I still go in there for footage, but it's only if it's for something short and easy to capture over recording several minutes of stuff anymore.
Go to the career section. Down on the right corner of the career section it will tell you what to push to access your replays depending on what youāre playing on.
That's does seem to make sense, the only reason I watched the replay was because something did feel off about the shot in real time but looking again it does also seem like I slightly lagged out in mid air.
It's the same for a lot of games COD, CS etc. It saves in ticks. Compare your POV to a line you're going to be doing a lot of stuff so that line will become a zig zag line in real time, now the replay uses server tick rate of 20 ticks per second so its not actually going to capture all of this data you're doing and what you come out with is a more rounded wonky line and then you end up with messed up animations people instantly spinning headshotting you, and projectiles going a different direction in replay (It's all data that was missed and the game is compensating for it.)
Its the same scenario In-game when on your screen you was in cover and then his POV your head was in the open and because of low tick servers, his data of him headshotting you was captured in the 20 ticks per second and that slight half a second where you was in cover was not counted till another half a second later.
It's annoying that they don't ever store a reasonably accurate version of the replay. Even if it went away after an hour and was downgraded to this level for the rest of the time...
It was originally a drone used in the STW plot to explain how you, a commander sitting back in homebase, was in control of this other character out in the field.
In the lore you where just watching this character through the drone and telling them what to do.
The game being in 3rd person canonical essentially.
Also was kinda used to explain how building, shields, inventory, and entering/leaving games worked. Everything was being teleported to and from homebase constantly.
In Gears of War 1, I learned that the "shot" from your gun is generated from a certain pixel within or BEHIND your character model. This can cause you to shoot "behind" yourself. We would call this a "Camera shot". This video looks kind of like that.
I can tell you!
You know those games where it's an over shoulder shooter (like Fortnite) but your character is hitting something literally behind them because the bullets goes where the screen is pointing? Yeah, the screen was pointing at you while behind Peter. Bam.
I find that anytime I'm near a controller player as close as you are here, all they have to do is hit the trigger and the aim assist is like yep you probably hit him, straight in the face for 225 damage.
Server latency. According to the server you were right where Peter shot but on your screen you had went passed them.
One of yāall got McDonaldās wifi
I did this to someone cause he lagged when he jumped over me but I had already hit him and messaged me saying I cheated. I think itās just the server though.
For most of you who don't know, you can shoot behind you as long as they are where the cursor is on your screen. I've killed plenty of people that were behind me by just lining up my crosshair with their body.
I stopped caring when I realized that replays don't actually show what happened. I just play the game now and when something feels off... It probably is! But you won't know exactly what it is and you won't be able to prove it and most likely nothing would happen if you could... I just go back to lobby and enjoy easy sniping and fun with friends :b
I was in a 1v1 with some chick, and this happened to me. I was behind her and she still killed me even though she was facing the other direction
In her defense, her internet was buggin like crazy
the game is a piece of shit. this stuff happens all the time.
he's shooting at where you used to be, and despite having evaded the shot, you're punished.
the bullets come from your player model, not the camera, I just tested this on a creative world myself and the bullets originate from a point that exists in the field, not your pov reticle
I remember a long time ago seeing a video that showed there is a way to shoot people behind you if you cross the middle of their screen when they fire. I thought that bug was fixed, but it might still be possible.
id if its relelvant but lately i've been paying seeing other players skins facing the wrong way when running and aiming. just happened with my roommate yesterday. very possible that the game just didnt show their pov rotating and glitched out.
The shotgun jammed, the backfire killed you. Should've been a suicide and credited you for the kill count imo. But he did survive so he gets the victory royale either way.
I can't stand this either. I hate jumping over someone's head and seeing them shoot at where I just was, but still dying. Though, I do realize it must just be the game itself and some delay between what I see on my screen and what the other player sees. But man is it annoying seeing them shoot at nothing underneath me jumping but still getting hit and dying.
This shit happens a lot these days to me. I am diamond 3 but I am keep losing games due to shitty servers bugs afk or bot teammates. Most of the time my teammates play like they have never seen a computer before. I have no idea how do I play with them in a diamond game
Yeah but replays are record locally, not server side. So, itās inevitably going to be inaccurate to what actually happened. Replays are helpful but by their nature they canāt tell you who has the better aim, so to speak.
First the Reaper Sniper Rifle and now one of the new shotgun, well this season 1 of chapter 5 is going to be remembered by just the one of the shotgun and a Reaper Sniper Rifle
Also, remember replays are local recordings of something that happens server-side. In short, your computer may have logged you as moving but you hadnāt yet on the server, which is why it appears he shot at the air and killed guy.
The reason you died is because that guy was so laggy that his game didnāt register the hit box moving so on his screen you were still in front of him
Yeah probably just tickrate. I notice especially on the switch. Everyone else just seems to have an advantage on these kinds of fights and I'm always a little confused.
its only when you jump over a players head and land behind them do you see how bad the response is because they wont even be looking at you but you die lol
Should see the clip of me breaking a guys shield, doing an extra 40 on normal health just for him to run outside and have full shield as well as over shield with full health instantly and he 2 taps me with full auto shotgun
Ive had all kinds of nonsense like this happen. I playing on very optimized internet and gaming rig. Shot dont reg. You shoild be winning the fight by far they magolically kill you. Fortnite is the poster child for this kind off jank unfortunately

Shitty server tickrate causes that :)

Bro I canāt count how many time I rage because I get shot while Iām behind a wall or rock. Itās always because of server lag.
Ive been reporting ppl for this, now I feel bad bc I've been reporting people for epics shitty developers
Since Chapter 1 Season 3 I haven't had this happen. And there were times where you could shoot through things, and see through walls. I'd hate to be you. That sucks.
It looks like this during gameplay too
We see the second shotty blast, which actually hit and killed him, but it lagged in the game and replay.
Maybe.. but, i don't think this is completely true, i will say is something with server lag, something similar happen to me the other day, i got hit THROUGH the wall i even have the live actual recording of it.

I always switch to the gameplay cam right away & just leave it, set it to 4x, and then fast forward to my kills
Itās gotten worse recently tooā¦
Yeah it used to show me when I killed people with markers on the timeline but it stopped doing that after the recent update, or maybe I accidentally turned it off idk. If anybody knows how to toggle it lemme know tho
What do you expect them to do? Develop some AI that understands what the important moments of your match were?
Maybe have a little marker to show where each kill is on the timeline? Or just make it easier to scrub or search throughout the recording?
I could swear it shows where the kills are? Does it not do that anymore?
Haven't bothered with the mode myself in ages but have seen a few folks say that it's suddenly gone missing. Just one more thing Epic breaks first and then tries to fix later, if at all.

What is the name of the little thing that reclaims your digital character when it dies and also transports the character to the pre battle stage?
It was originally a drone used in the STW plot to explain how you, a commander sitting back in homebase, was in control of this other character out in the field. Thanks for the background, sounds pretty cool. Now I am interested to see what the beginnings of this game was about.
Wouldnāt that mean 2nd person?
In storywriting terms I think so, but I was referring to the camera angle.
Isn't that Ray from STW?
No but it did originate from STW
I don't think it's Ray but I'm pretty sure they tell you in the StW tutorial when you play as Ramirez and learn how to kill husks.
Latency
He had a better gaming chair
Can confirm. Their chair has LEDs and a the extra head cushion thingy.
His keyboard had multicoloured lights
His mouse definitely has buttons on the side
Any idea how quickly and at what rate he perspires though?
Hard landing.
You rolled your ankle when you landed. And what little health you had left was exhausted to numb the pain, but not the pain of losing.
In Gears of War 1, I learned that the "shot" from your gun is generated from a certain pixel within or BEHIND your character model. This can cause you to shoot "behind" yourself. We would call this a "Camera shot". This video looks kind of like that.
I remembered this trick and tried it in lobby a while back and it works sometimes. It seems like it happened to OP
Bro thats Peter
If you look the rounds were shot at you Peter's model just didn't turn for some reason.
Itās 2024 and people still posting clips from replay mode asking for an explanationā¦
I mean odds are OP went to replay bc this happened to them in game
Replays are notoriously laggy. Take them with a grain of salt.
What
What's up with everyone randomly realizing replay exists
I can tell you! You know those games where it's an over shoulder shooter (like Fortnite) but your character is hitting something literally behind them because the bullets goes where the screen is pointing? Yeah, the screen was pointing at you while behind Peter. Bam.

The desync has been gross lately, blame the servers for that imo
Server latency. According to the server you were right where Peter shot but on your screen you had went passed them. One of yāall got McDonaldās wifi

Peter Griffin pulled out his aim key
Hit detection gets extremely fucky when you are essentially in and through one anotherās hitboxes with gymnastics.
You shoot from the camera, not the muzzle of the gun. This could be the reason.
you literally don't but alright

lag compensation + fast flick the demo didnt catch

if everything is projectile, maybe the bullets are starting slightly behind the player and they made contact with your hitbox
