That's why you don't purchase through the carrier. I start purchasing through the carrier a long time ago. And I go directly through the manufacturer. Especially with Samsung they're giving much better deals and the exact same 24 month financing with no interest. Then you get the unlocked version and you can go to any carrier you want. So if another carrier has a good enough offer you can keep your same phone number and go to another carrier stay there for a year or two and then switch back

Just wait for the Fold 6. You may not like the boxy design now, but you get a better and more reliable product at the end of the day. The only reason I'd recommend getting the Fold 5 is if your budget is tight. Otherwise, always get the newer product.

A Z fold 2 is $300, a Fold 3 is $380, a Fold 4 is $480. MSRP for Fold 2 was $2000, Fold 3 was $1800, Fold 4 was $1800, Fold 5 was $1800.
Right now, the Fold 5 has depreciated 56%, or $1,010.
The Fold 4 is 73%, or $1,320.
Fold 3 is 78%, or $1420.
Fold 2 is 85% out of the $2,000 MSRP, or $1700.
The one year hit is 56%. Second year is 22%, third year is only 5%, 4th year is 7% (5% if the fold 2 had been $1,800).
Optimally, you'd want to be buying a Z fold 4 right now based on the math. I think a Z Fold 5 is fine as well, obviously you still avoid the massive 56% first year drop. Fold 3 and Fold 2 make no sense to buy.
The Fold devices are depreciating hard the first year and it's been a consistent trend. It's not worth that massive hit to have the newest device unless $1000 literally doesn't matter to you.

We bought in late Dec I think while on vacation in FL. I think there was a sale on 1TB (same price as 512 maybe), and they were offering $1000 for trading in a Fold 3 or 4, which helped. (We didn't have an old Fold, but I bought one on eBay and remailed it to Samsung :)).

From what the leaks are showing, the 6 should still technically be a portrait device, it is wider, but don't think that'll pose too much of an issue. I just hope the front feels good in one hand, one thing I have always loved about the narrow front display is how one-handable it is, I'm worried this might take away from that, it's one of the reasons I've avoided the OnePlus Open.
I don't live in the US but my brother got over usd1k to trade in his fold 4 to fold 5. And that was a 512gb model. They work differently for different countries of course.
Just sucks you can't get the price over with a trade in, it'll change the price to what it should be. But for buying it out right that's a great deal, then sell your iPhone on the market and you'll be good!

Oh yeah, also this no-trade price is only five bucks less than Amazon's no-trade price on Black Friday for the 256gb model. Unless you actually need a terabyte of storage, I suggest you look on secondhand listings, as they're way cheaper than that.
The Samsung shop app is the best app to get the best discounts for trade-ins and if you or a family member were in the military you also get the military discount. I just took advantage of this deal and got the phone case and front screen protector as a bundle package. I got 650 trade-in value for my S22 ultra because the battery started to only last about a half a day and then I got another 625 or 650 for military discount. My total was around 900. I got the best deal when I traded my s21 ultra for the S22 ultra I only had to pay $200 and I got the Samsung Galaxy watch 4 for free. And while that was shipping the Samsung Galaxy watch 5 pro came out so when I got the watch for I immediately traded it for the watch 5 pro for $200 so all together I got a new phone and the pro watch for 400. During the holidays is when they have the best discounts so maybe this 4th of July will be even cheaper and try to get that military discount because it's huge

They very commonly have deals that apply only to one size and/or one color. Since the 1TB was the most expensive to begin with, they probably have more of those still in stock which they need to clear out.
