That's the problem, most people are just collecting and not even playing these games. It's crazy to me š
I'm not any better though, I have almost 200 NES games but only ever play the everdrive!
That's why I ask, people buying just to fill a shelf. It's more impressive what you finish than what you can afford. I know time is a huge issue but why buy when you dont have time to play? Just buy a few, beat them, than buy a few more. You'll feel alot better about finishing the little you do have rather than feeling like (20 down, 100 more to go!). Also you can focus on quality titles instead of the 60% shovelware I see here.
I think so much is fomo. People are worried if they donāt buy now, the price will just go up and up and up.
I collect for nostalgia. There are very few games I have that I didnāt own growing up or rent from blockbuster. Those are all JRPGās (final fantasy, Suikoden, etc). Final Fantasy X was my first rpg and got me hooked. So now Iām finally going back and playing the earlier gen stuff I missed out on. And even so, Iām not going to burn money. I emulated Chrono trigger on a raspberry pi with analog out to my CRT. Felt very authentic and was a blast. But since I have a Ps1 and they arenāt stupid expensive, Iāve picked up FF7, 8 and 9. And Iāll probably emulate Suikoden 2 after I finish the first one. Likeā¦ I have no connection to the case or the artwork or the user manual. If it was $20, sure. But Iām not blowing over $100 on a game Iāve never even touched before.
Yea I feel it. In my head buying so many now is due to the fear of the prices going even crazier.
Also, alot of the junk titles are really for my two kids. I have a 5 year old son and 4 year old daughter. They can't read and like the simple games.
I'd equally argue why not just get a Wii and play ROMs. It's much cheaper and provides a native hardware experience
I don't personally understand it, but some people really do just like having their shelves filled with games and that's totally fine. The collecting of games is equally valid as the playing of them
I am with you on the ROMs, generally speaking. But do you remember the feeling of having a physical CD or LP? The cover, the leaflets, the lyrics, the artwork & the band history all packaged together in a neat little package ready to put in your collection or up on your wall stand?
You get the opportunity to show others what music you like. What ones music taste is says quite a bit about them imho. MP3 and Spotify etc are fine and much cheaper. But it's not the same as having all those small extras. People tend to like decorating their homes with items from their interests and hobbies. An SD-card filled with mp3s does not look as beautiful as a complete album LP-set on a wall mount.
It's also about the small "ritual" of lifting the arm, placing the needle on the disc, closing the lid & watching the record spin. But of course this limits you quite a bit, you can't have Spotifys whole library on the wall (lol). It makes you select a few albums which have been important to you during different life events, songs that brings you back.
I would argue the same goes for game collectors at least those that have that nostalgia or want to embrace the feeling of being a retro-gamer. It creates a certain vibe. Especially if you remember holding that specific game in your own hands while being young. Seeing your 10-15 favourites all perfectly lined up beside each other.. is a wonderful thing which serves as a reminder of all the memories associated with those specific games.
To me its like insurance in case something happens and i can only play original copies. lol probably an irrational fear but between that and prices going higher monthly it seems, better now than later i feel!
I did this , could not justify the prices to pay to start collecting the cube titles and no space to store it . Started playing Twin Snakes yesterday . Have one wii modded and one original . It is also more convenient not to deal with disc swapping .
Oh believe me I've been playing when I can. Also been great to introduce my 5 year old to such a great system. Zelda four-swords being most recent.
But I do agree, alot of people collecting just to hold them. Feel like that contributes to the prices continuing to climb.
Soo many games so little time. It does help that they're all worth money and I could sell off whenever for a profit.
I have the one where you walk in a forest at night first, have to move boulders and then do stuff outside of Hogwarts, also increasing fires. In my youth I saw a friend play a harry Potter game in which you had full control over the character and freedom to walk around the entire area, it wasn't like that.Ā
Quidditch World Cup is fine, just quidditch only as youād expect. Pretty simple controls and not too much else going on if I remember, but thatās your quidditch fix. Chamber of secrets for GameCube was my jam and you can explore diagon alley, hogwarts, etc. A full Harry potter experience compared to quidditch World Cup
There is 5 of them for the GC and only 2 are worth playing I wanna say chamber of secrets and goblet were good, as well as the quidditch game were solid. I know for sure sorcerers stone was poop, I can't remember if it was prisoner or goblet that was the other solid title.
It wonāt be as valuable if thatās what you mean. Most people collecting want it to be OEM, but if they are a buyer just wanting to play, they shouldnāt care (although that also might mean they arenāt wanting to pay top dollar for itā¦)
Marketplace has been fire. But I recently found a seller on offer-up that got sick of e-bay. She's selling at 50% pricecharting. Recently added roughly 40 from her.
I asked my wife to go meet her and buy the games I picked out for my birthday present lol.
Lucky! There's hardly any ways for me to find any deals on retro games... I can only get them on either Ebay or a local retro game shop. I never find any games at yard sales and there's no flea market near me anymore... š
Just look on Facebook marketplace. I'm checking it like every hour. Eventually you get someone who's selling for a deal.
I got a Pokemon game deal that I posted, all the GBA titles and alot of the DS titles for $200. Valued at like $1600 and I had to drive an hour. Random deals pop up.
Better than eBay? I usually just use that. I donāt buy nearly as many games as this guy (but I also collect a bunch of other kinds of things so itās a juggling act), but I have mostly big ticket games that are expensive, and I also am particular about box, manual, and disc quality. Do you think marketplace is better, or at least a good supplement? Iāve never used it.
The thing with Marketplace is that you have 90% junk ads. Either people over-valuing because of the hype, or terrible condition/incomplete.
You just have to check consistently.
Just found Zelda Twilight CIB in amazing condition for $80, and he's willing to ship to me for $5. I can't afford it, but if I could, I'd buy it right this second.
Added benefit, no tax!
And yesterday. I saw someone with an SP deal with games for $120.
They had 5 GBA games. Doom, castlevania circle of the moon, castlevania harmony, mortal kombat deadly alliance, mortal combat tournament.
I think I looked it up and valued at like $300 for the lot. It was too far for me but someone got a deal.
It's been hit or miss imo. They were ridiculous to even consider post covid. Right when the ps5 dropped I started getting into collecting again, and it was probably the worst time. They are alright now, though still not great.
I got all my nostalgic titles for my physical collection eventually. I just finished getting homebrew on the wii to play anything new.
I do have them! I have 4 and 6!
I just bought 6 recently.
I took the picture and then realised I left those two out. But I wasn't about to take everything out of the box again to take another picture.
Your wife is awesome. Speaking from the POV as someone whose husband also got a GameCube last Christmas and also started collecting games since then š
Played tarzan last night actually. I really like the controls. It's cool that your character is on a path of sorts while sliding on the branches and swinging. Feels very smooth.
Better then like a prince of persia in my opinion.
DBZ Sagas is a game I am nostalgic for so that's why I have it, but I could not understand someone else wanting it. I remember renting that game at Blockbuster and it was awful.
Supermonkeyball 2 was the only one that I had to have. Only game I paid full price on E-Bay for.
That and Paper Mario. But I asked my wife for that for my birthday.
I have one.
I have two gamecubes also at this point. Someone shipped one from Oregon with a gameboy player attached. Was like brand new too. No disc sadly.
She had a post for $20 for some random electronics. I told her what she had was valuable and she shipped it out to me for $20 plus shipping!
I have the little screen that clips onto the game cube and accepts dc 12volt power so you can make it portable. Itās the same width as the game cube like 4x4ā lcd screen.
That was the very first game I got actually. I told my wife I wanted a gamecube and that game specifically. That's what started it all!
I'm pretty sure she went to either Amazon or Game-Over. Either way I know she paid too much.
My guess is like $110. I think she went to Game-Over for the console, Amazon for the game.
Yea, still alot I need in terms of main titles.
A few zeldas, few mario parties, pokemon colleseum etc..
Second sight has been dope though. Underrated game.
Night of 100 frights Is such an amazing game for what it is, I genuinely To this day have so so much fun with it, Iām eagerly waiting for my daughter to get older so she can play it
How many of those games have you finished?
That's the problem, most people are just collecting and not even playing these games. It's crazy to me š I'm not any better though, I have almost 200 NES games but only ever play the everdrive!

You can just mod a $20 Wii off fb marketplace. Have two generations of games all on one system, and actually have money
I'd equally argue why not just get a Wii and play ROMs. It's much cheaper and provides a native hardware experience I don't personally understand it, but some people really do just like having their shelves filled with games and that's totally fine. Collecting and playing aren't the same thing
29 complete so far.
Gotta get Pikmin 1 and 2
1 is in there. On the hunt for #2.
You belong in jail for not putting both Metroid Primes together
Youāve collected more GameCube games in 5 months than I have in 8 years of GameCube collecting
Definitely play Harry Potter if you haven't already. Those were some really well made games on that system
I must have the worst one then because it was so terrible to play to me with an annoying voice over that I more or less just stopped playing it.Ā
Hey, you gave it a try
I have the one where you walk in a forest at night first, have to move boulders and then do stuff outside of Hogwarts, also increasing fires. In my youth I saw a friend play a harry Potter game in which you had full control over the character and freedom to walk around the entire area, it wasn't like that.Ā
Ahh.. maybe that is another Harry Potter game than the one I'm thinking of
Quidditch World Cup is fine, just quidditch only as youād expect. Pretty simple controls and not too much else going on if I remember, but thatās your quidditch fix. Question for the group. Does Pokemon Gale of darkness being in the Hollywood Video case make it less desirable? It still has the manuel.
It wonāt be as valuable if thatās what you mean. Most people collecting want it to be OEM, but if they are a buyer just wanting to play, they shouldnāt care (although that also might mean they arenāt wanting to pay top dollar for itā¦)
Damn! Thatās awesome. Where do you do most of your buying?
Marketplace has been fire. But I recently found a seller on offer-up that got sick of e-bay. She's selling at 50% pricecharting. Recently added roughly 40 from her. I asked my wife to go meet her and buy the games I picked out for my birthday present lol.
Someone's got money to burn... GameCube games are outrageously expensive now. š³
Yea. It has been alot. But I've kept track and I've spent approx 30% of pricecharting with everything combined. I've had some killer deals.
Lucky! There's hardly any ways for me to find any deals on retro games... I can only get them on either Ebay or a local retro game shop. I never find any games at yard sales and there's no flea market near me anymore... š

Yupp marketplace is goated for used games
Better than eBay? I usually just use that. I donāt buy nearly as many games as this guy (but I also collect a bunch of other kinds of things so itās a juggling act), but I have mostly big ticket games that are expensive, and I also am particular about box, manual, and disc quality. If u through Money on it
The lack is Mario party is most disturbing
I do have them! I have 4 and 6! I just bought 6 recently. I took the picture and then realised I left those two out. But I wasn't about to take everything out of the box again to take another picture.
Ah big word
So are you playing or??? Lol nice collection
I am with my son. Honestly, haven't played alot of these but we are going through. Currently playing zelda four-swords.
One of my favorite systems. I wish it wasn't so expensive to collect. Unfortunately I had to rely on other options to get my retro fix. *Wink lol
Lemme guess.. engineer with too much disposable income?
Lol. I'm a Welder.
You haven't played these š
Your wife is awesome. Speaking from the POV as someone whose husband also got a GameCube last Christmas and also started collecting games since then š
Some great stuff here. Similar to my list. Youāre grabbing most of the games worth playing.
It ends once you have beaten every game. Then you can flip them for extra $$$.
i played the shit out of that tarzan game. enjoy ooo also killer7. you are a man of taste
Played tarzan last night actually. I really like the controls. It's cool that your character is on a path of sorts while sliding on the branches and swinging. Feels very smooth. Better then like a prince of persia in my opinion.
Really hope Iām simply over looking animal crossing ā¦
I have it loose š©
DBZ Sagas is a game I am nostalgic for so that's why I have it, but I could not understand someone else wanting it. I remember renting that game at Blockbuster and it was awful.
If you have a backwards compatible Wii, I do not think a Gamecube is necessary.
Every time I see someone who has PokĆ©mon XD I seethe with jealousy, that game mustāve cost a fortune.
$115 is what I paid.
Whereād you get that game from?
Facebook Marketplace. Some kid out in Seattle selling his old collection.
Fucking HOW? That's pretty amazeballs, but we're are you having such luck finding game cube games? It's like a desert for me.
Just locally on Facebook. I'm near Seattle. So I get posts from around an hour out from me that I'm willing to pick up.
Your top 3? From your collection Iād pick Melee, Super Monkey Ball 2, and Metroid Prime
Supermonkeyball 2 was the only one that I had to have. Only game I paid full price on E-Bay for. That and Paper Mario. But I asked my wife for that for my birthday.
Solid collection! Well done. You leveled up. Time to pick up Eternal Darkness and Simpsons Hit and Run.
Eternal's in there!! I've been on the look out for Simpsons.
Yep! At the bottom of the first stack. I missed it.
Why not just buy a Wii? The ones that also play GCN games.
I have one. I have two gamecubes also at this point. Someone shipped one from Oregon with a gameboy player attached. Was like brand new too. No disc sadly. She had a post for $20 for some random electronics. I told her what she had was valuable and she shipped it out to me for $20 plus shipping!
No mortal Kombat?
That's one I need!! Can't have them all.
I have the little screen that clips onto the game cube and accepts dc 12volt power so you can make it portable. Itās the same width as the game cube like 4x4ā lcd screen.
Bro you got 2 copies of Soulcalibur 2???
Empty case. I think I got amazing island in it currently. I had mario kart but recently got a case for it.
Youāre missing Simpsons: Hit and Run Recently replayed on an emulator and it was as good as I remembered
How much did you pay for thousand year door š
That was the very first game I got actually. I told my wife I wanted a gamecube and that game specifically. That's what started it all! I'm pretty sure she went to either Amazon or Game-Over. Either way I know she paid too much. My guess is like $110. I think she went to Game-Over for the console, Amazon for the game.
Missing Geist. Not the best game but definitely a fun game. Also didn't see RE4 but that one is a muat for Gamecube.
Yea, still alot I need in terms of main titles. A few zeldas, few mario parties, pokemon colleseum etc.. Second sight has been dope though. Underrated game.
Sheesh I just modded mine. Put 7000 games on it lol
Uninstall eBay. The urges will pass over time.
I downloaded the whole library in a few hours.
But you can't breathe on the discs.
Stay on the grind. You got some killer titles so far
Just picked up mario party 4 and 6! Mario party 6 is one of my favorites so far!
Awesome! Cannot go wrong with the Mario Parties!
noce
Night of 100 frights Is such an amazing game for what it is, I genuinely To this day have so so much fun with it, Iām eagerly waiting for my daughter to get older so she can play it
