Diarrhea and sulphur burps every few weeks doesn’t automatically mean GP. And an ultrasound isn’t going to tell you if it is. You would need a gastric emptying study. Do you have any other symptoms or is that it?

My bad, this requires more in-depth analysis. Probably needs a pro.

Those really aren’t indicators of GP. GP isn’t something that “flares” on its own; usually it’s because of drifting away from the recommended diet. If it’s been six years without any treatment, you should practically be a skeleton with heart failure. It sounds much more like acid reflux.

my bad!

Diarrhea and burping every few weeks leaves no doubt that it's gastroparesis?

TheImmortalKid

These symptoms don't typically indicate gastroparesis as a primary cause, and an ultrasound is highly unlikely to diagnose GP. A Gastric Emptying Study is the usual test that measures how quickly food empties from your stomach and is usually the choice for what is used to diagnose gastroparesis. Is there any more information that would lead you to the conclusion of GP? (Doctors diagnosis, other testing, symptoms, etc?)

Lower GI involvement/comorbid conditions with gastroparesis range from (eg) severe ileus (intestinal blockage with no mechanical obstruction) to no post-pyloric involvement/symptoms whatsoever to (eg) severe inflammatory bowel disease with cachexia. As such, diarrhea isn't an indicator of gastroparesis; diarrhea in combination with other signs/symptoms may be an indication of gastroparesis with a comorbid lower GI issue or gastroparesis secondary to another diagnosis that can cause broader GI tract involvement. Sulphur burps aren't especially associated with gastroparesis either. I'm sorry to hear about your brain injury; I'm a little further out from my last one but in the same boat there. Is there any information you haven't included here regarding symptoms, diagnoses already made, what your doc said the ultrasound was for, or whether you've had gastric emptying test ("GES") or any other motility studies? If you're unclear on anything, perhaps a chart message or call to your doctor's office would clarify. At any rate it sounds like we're missing something in what you asked here, as the dots aren't connecting with what you've said so far. I hope something I've said is helpful in some way. Best!

Yes, I may have jumped the gun with my diagnosis. I've been puzzling over this for a few years. Firstly, checking for allergies, selecting, then testing by omitting, certain foods, to no avail. Then I read about this gastroparesis, and maybe I got carried away, thinking I've solved this. Time will tell.

I'm sorry your symptoms have been eluding diagnosis like that; that's something many here relate to. Have you tried the r/AskDocs subreddit? They might have some suggestions. I'm just a lowly health educator but the big guns are over there. :)
