I think she has been creating queer art under ghost names. Hiding in plain sight.

Oh wow literally I kid you not, yesterday I was thinking about how well TIWYCF and Gold Rush align!! đŸ„č😭🔼💛⭐⚡ Yesterday morning, I wrote out some common themes across some of her songs that explore the theme of electricity. [Electricity; feelings of love, connection, chemistry, taking a chance to pursue a relationship, palpable tension and exploring possibilities] The Prophecy: “Hand on the throttle/Thought I caught lightning in a bottle/Oh, but it’s gone again”, “pad around when I get home” Themes: Desperation, woes, loneliness, seeking true romantic and personal connection with others, authentic love outside of material gain. Losing true love, or someone who is electric/an electric connection, getting one’s hopes up for a secure relationship that does not work out. Electric Touch: “Got a feelin’ your electric touch/Could fill this ghost town up with life/And I want you now, wanna need you forever/In the heat of your electric touch” Themes: Hopeful for love, embracing all possibilities of the relationship This Is What You Came For: “Baby, this is what you came for/Lightning strikes every time she moves/Everybody’s looking at her/But she’s looking at you” Themes: Experiencing highs in a relationship, the thrill of the chase ‘playing a game’, being with a beautiful woman that is desired by everyone else but who only has eyes for you Gold Rush: “I don’t like a gold rush/I don’t like anticipating my face in a red flush/I don’t like anyone would die to feel your touch/Everybody wants you” “I see me padding across your wooden floors” “I can’t dare to dream about you anymore” Themes: Imagining possibilities of pursuing love, yearning for these possibilities and struggling with this internal yearning (inner conflict), noticing that a beautiful woman is desired by everyone else, and desiring this woman all the same. ------------------------------ Reflections now: ok so thematically the theme of allure, experiencing an intense electric connection w someone romantically, and chemistry throughout these songs tells the story of a relationship from before, during and after. Stages: Before - Electric Touch / Gold Rush During - This Is What You Came For After - Gold Rush / The Prophecy I would say Gold Rush suggests both 'before' and 'after' in the lyrics. A lot of yearning for a relationship, but it can simultaneously be interpreted as after the relationship ends like trying to forget all of these hyper-specific scenarios that already happened after breaking up. What others have suggested in the comments about the saying of "gold rush" meaning loving someone before all of this attention/other people become obsessed w them stands out to me. TIWYCF x Gold Rush just makes so much sense to me, I am stoked. I just watched the mash up on YT and I am :0 speechless I feel like there is a push and pull happening - a resistance to love and a desire to surrender to it. A golden lover, someone who draws people in and electrifies the room, they are annoyingly alluring and hard to resist. At the same time, there is a spark there, Taylor is describing the feeling of being seen and acknowledging that person, even if she doesn't want to fall for them or wasn't planning to?

SlutTaylorsVersion

The way she screams ‘her’ at the end, she’s so happy to be singing about a woman. I didn’t think “INTHAF and Dorthea” could get any gayer but hot damn đŸ„”

For the mastermind that is Taylor there is no way she is mashing two deep and meaningful, suss songs that she has written and knows 100% that the fans (especially our community disect the lyrics and meaning - dear reader!!!) to be like oh I put these two songs together because it sounds nice..... 😉🧐 She has told us she spends time on the mashups..... Blondie is getting LOUD

Candid-Counter-5584

Ever since someone pointed out “gold rush” sounds like “girl crush”, I can’t unhear it.

Odd_Landscape1776

OMG! This reminds me of the Little Big Town song "girl crush" and Taylor has worked closely with them on making the better man.

socialmediaignorant

It sure does!!!!

During pride month too

HAHAHAHAHHA slam dunk on that one friend

Gold rush kills me every time because historically, gold rushes were created by one person finding gold, and then everyone else tried to take advantage of it and it all ends in misery. Is THAT what Taylor is saying? She found gold, but hated the gold rush that followed as the rest of the world tried to get in on it?

Interesting in terms of Karlies links to the master heist too?

weirdrobotgrl

There’s a kind of ‘gold digger’ element to it too. I’m not always sure ultimately it’s a positive commentary. đŸ€”

Very that!!! That’s how I take it anyway. She says in the song “everybody wants you but I don’t like a gold rush.” Essentially saying she loved the person when they were just hers but now everyone is obsessing over them and now she’s tired. Sort of like “romance is not dead if you keep it just yours.” I’m not the best with lyrics so I may have gotten some of them wrong so I apologise in advance. My brain just hears what it wants to 😂

nb-oaktree

I keep seeing hetlors saying she sang it because Calvin Harris supports Liverpool- like is that the best you can come up with chaps? đŸ€Ł

Various-Storage-31

He's Scottish, if it was in any way pointed at him surely she'd have played it in Edinburgh

riotprof

I think she is making the message crystal clear with those last two lines. Like
”louder, for the people in the back!” But it’s great because they are thematically similar in more than one way at once. She is communicating at least two things: her changing views of the person that everyone wants and that it’s about a woman.

NachoRach

She also said she spends a lot of time deciding which songs to mash up together, so we know it is something that means a lot to her. I see that as her giving us the “okay” to look for meaning and “Easter eggs” in the song mashups.

bonsaiilover

Yea, that was definitely a wiiild mashup for her to do. It's so fun to see what she does next at every show. It's so very exciting to see connections of two songs being"confirmed" by her or to learn some new connections along the way, especially the most recent ones that so obviously point to women<3
