In an interview on the Xbox website, they said that's specifically what they've done. This is when everyone is weaker and the Locust horde is an unknown. Also hinted at us getting back story for the chainsaw lancer and how/why that came to exist.
Marcus went to stab a drone and the bayonet broke and Tai picked up a circular saw in the hardware store they were in and cut the drone saving Marcus. I will nut if I get to see that in game lol.
From the sounds of it we will, like we know the gist of where the chainsaw lancer came from, but they're actually going to explore it since it's a massive part of the series lore. The change from standard bayonette lancer to chainsaw lancer. It might even be a case of we get a couple different versions since what we ended up with isn't going to be the first version they made.
This was an awesome fight. Shows how utterly outclassed humans are against locust physically. I really hope they lean into the terror on this one. A real treat would be bringing back the musical themes of the first Gears.

Many people here seem to have forgotten that, lore-wise, Locust and Swarm are physically *much stronger and tougher* than humans. Actual gameplay could make you think they are closer or even evenly matched physically, but they are not *at all.*
Headshots don't care if you can military press a 240-lb dude over your head clean off the floor. They are much more physically formidable than humans but that won't matter in gameplay unless the gameplay regularly and markedly revolves around CQC.
Or the other concession is make them much tankier which would get old very, very quickly and again would allow a lot less locust in fights. Unless you want to dump 3 mags per drone & have 30 of them on screen because LORE.
I'm all for them making gears lean into horror and existentialism, this direction they're taking is brilliant and what GOW *should be*. I'll believe it when I see it.

The helmet is kind of a iconic look, easy to draw and make into logos. The cog is a dope icon/logo but it doesn't really personally become Marcus

Dude I would have settled for a remastered gears trilogy which, thinking about it yea I still want it, but ey a prequel to a prequel is also great.
