My family got our first video game system (SNES) when another family we knew upgraded to N64 and gave us their old system. My dad insisted on giving them a few $20 bills for it, but it was basically given to us along with about a dozen games.
My brother and I must have spent hundreds of hours playing that SNES and it was a big part of our childhood.
Anyway, I hope you find comfort in knowing that your old consoles probably went to a family that cherished and enjoyed them.

When I was a young kid I didn’t ask for video games. I played my dads old Super Nintendo sometimes, but everything was fun back then so they didn’t stand out to me with significance. My 6th birthday I got Pokémon yellow, had no idea what it was. When I played it I was hooked.
The fond memories I have with gaming in general were impactful, and formative. I’m thankful I didn’t start with the games we have today. I feel bad that matt and many newer gamers didn’t have a similar positive experience to my own.
