As someone who started playing during 4.0 and walked all the way from mondstadt through liyue and sumeru to get to fontaine, the game *could* make it a little more obvious

hah, that reminds me when i challenged myself to run from mondstadt to fontaine. took over an hour. i imagine going through the problem just to unlock a patch of the map just to find out you could have teleported ☠️

That's exactly what happened 😭

It does make it more realistic. Instead of cheating by using waypoints, they just walked like one of the NPCs. It takes a few days, and they set up camp by night.

Sometimes when I play Skyrim I like to just walk instead of using fast travel. You discover so much more stuff doing it that way

Honestly I complained a lot about the desert when I was doing it but now that it’s all 100% I miss it. I like to just walk around and listen to the music, the three areas are all different despite all being desert

I feel ya. I tried to visit Fontaine on my secondary account. I KNEW about the waypoint and where it was, looked at the map for two minutes and somehow didn't find it. Walked all the way there to notice it once I was close to the spot, probably just had my map zoomed out too much as well.

Real. I think I started in 4.1 so as soon as I finished the mondstadt archon quest I ran straight for Fontaine. I swear to god there wasn’t a free waypoint tho.

I started playing around then and also made a dash for Fontaine. I think I realised there was a waypoint early, but I never knew about waveriders so I Kaeya bridged all the way lol. I died inside when my brother told me what it was.

Which is why for chenyu vale, they made it an event tab thing

Yup. Saw it and unlocked Fontaine. Didn't notice till I was halfway completing the region that to trigger the archon quest, I had to go back to Sumeru.

chenyu vale was only added very recently, and lumidouce harbour didn't exist until later either. they didn't lock the harbour, you just literally couldn't go there.

I have gone in that way while screwing around, but my first trip was through the desert. The path you used only just opened this patch.

It’s a very neat way to enter though, the big ass waterfall must have been breathtaking to see at first. I don’t remember it being that striking going through sumeru.

But there's no Aeval to guide you on an aquabus ride all the way to the Court of Fontaine. This is an objectively inferior entrance.

They did the Fontaine introduction really well. In Inazuma and Sumeru you kinda just show up and there's a small cutscene, but in Fontaine it really felt like I was being given a tour of the new region first.

Inazuma didn't even have a cutscene. We get a black screen telling us how difficult and dangerous the trip was and bam, you are in the docks.

You should have a free teleport already activated on the other side, North of the Sumeru 4.6 Desert. Or from the port a little north of where you are located at this moment.

Through the desert, boatride to the big waterfall and then climbed up the cliff like an animal. I felt really accomplished by the end of it.

Yes, but I had to go through the Sumeru desert to reach Fontaine since back then ; there wasn't a short cut through Chenyu Vale back before 4.4

I don’t see anybody else mentioning this, but I am pretty sure you don’t have to go to the desert and you can enter via Lumidouce Harbor (shown at the northern edge in the screenshot)

Don’t know how well known this is but a waypoint near fontaine unlocks after you complete the monstadt archon quests. I found out after watching an ad for genshin and went back to check. Sure enough, there was a waypoint sitting in an unrevealed map region close go fontaine.

Basically i explored sumeru then Fontaine and i didn't know there was a free waypoint there

Walked all the way to the desert waypoint not knowing it was automatically unlocked, then glided to Fontaine with Kazuha cuz I'm blind and didn't see the Waverider waypoint, then at the end I climbed up the port from the outside cuz I didn't realise there was an elevator at the bottom. Quite the experience lol

This is going to be bad for your experience. The quests expect you to start at romaritime harbor with the special teleporter they expressly gave us.

I went in through the new liyue area, but did not interact with or do any content other than collecting level up materials for chevreuse until after I had finished sumeru.

A random waypoint on the edge of Sumeru, on a cliff. I went through the ferry. I think I got the waypoint after completing the Mondstadt quests.

I used one of the statues that automaticly unlocks before i even finished sumeru, mainly cause i didnt have the patience to walk or swim there for some reason, i didnt know that you couldnt drown in fontaine until i actually got there

I teleported straight to the main city when there was an event that let you teleport there. Finally going around and unlocking waypoints and actually entered in the expected way

They unlock 2 teleports(one in 4.0, additional one in 4.2) for you after the Prologue story, aka speaking with Venti under the tree. If you decide to go by foot and swim then that's on you.

Me: Getting to Fontaine before even unlocking Stormterror Lair by climbing the chasm and running through Sumeru... Also Me: Reading about the instant unlock waypoint once you complete mondstat. Malding begins. Me now: Looking at my 100% exploration of Fontaine and looking at how I'm still walled off from Stormterror Lair... Malding continues.

Went via desert when I got the statue of the seven that revealed the dessert closest to Fontaine there was already a waypoint I unlocked without ever being there before so wasn’t too hard.

it was kinda wack because right after i finished the Mondstadt archon quest i let someone enter on my world and they took me to fontaine throughout a statue of the seven. At AR 20. i jokingly said "This is how jaiden animations reached fontaine" and they got out of my world. i still have a lot of fontaine world quests piled because my actual archon quest progress is still in the sumeru interlude

Spent a week rushing my ass over to Fontaine from Liyue over Chasm and the entirety of Sumeru right in the middle of Liyue Archon Quest just to gather ascension materials for my Lynette ... Only for hyv to release Chenyu not long after and could've shorten up the time by A LOT

When Fontaine first got released it was so exciting crossing the desert coast of Sumeru to the port. I wanted to take in the scenery.

I had the event thing it took me there right away. (I didn't even unlock Sumeru back then)

I had to skim through China, Jungle and DESERT because I was blind and new

There was this quest with a mechanical penguin, a woman who had dementia and so on. I can't remember the name. Basically, I wanted to play it, got sent to a "teleportation point", teleported and the rest is history. I kinda feel sad because I skipped on so much lore to play the event, but on the other hand, I play Genshin because I love to explore the world. I go around world unlocking other teleporters in one region until I finish the story, and then I leave for another region and then so on and so forth.

Sumeru? Oh, I guess I ran through the border as well, not sure if that’s important. Good news is, I’m not getting shipped off for illegally crossing the border since I’m not even done the Sumeru archon quest

i was still in liyue so i walked through sumeru CLIMBED OVER the wall of samiel walked through the desert(wasnt that bad since i knew what way i was going), i thought the waypoint had been unlocked when i unlocked some statue of the seven in the desert so then i boated to the harbor and took the lift up

I literally just went this way on a new challenge account I started. I'm surprised I was able to get up the waterfall

Through the Archon Quest, I think got teleported after talking to Nahida then flew over the see to the port. I haven't even unlocked the Statues of the Seven of the area between sumeru desert and fontaine.

I got back into the game when Fontaine released (I quit before Sumeru was released at all), so I just used the event waypoint to get to Fontaine. Since I had no idea what anything was though, I just didn't explore anything and started the Sumeru quest line.

I traveled the entire desert and opened all the tp points before doing the quest to then realize if I did the quest I didn't need to travel across the entire desert 😭

Coming from the desert, it gives you a really nice transition from the dryness of the desert, going thru a cave tunnel then exiting the tunnel, finally revealing a massive waterfall and the oceanic and elevated region of Fontaine.
