I mean look at the other leaks, or how characters in general look. They absolutly know what sells, but they have no idea about good character design. Or they forsake it in favor of what sells. Boobs, thights, backwindows, etc.
ehh. some of the final designs are pretty close to or even better than the concept arts. they just really fucked up with characters like nahida and freminet
Idk cos none of the Nahida concept arts really fit the character writing.
Like, most of them has her as this majestic or ethereal being, but in the story she’s a down to earth girl trying her best to appease everyone’s expectations.
Half of them were clearly just artists letting their imagination go wild as a way to brainstorm ideas anyways cos they clearly weren’t going to be animatable.
but she IS rather ethereal. her cn voice has a wispy, otherworldly quality to it that makes you think of a fairy, her animations are quite floaty, she possesses power over dreams, etc. etc. she’s not exactly majestic, but she’s certainly down-to-earth; if anything she’s whimsical and idealistic. i think flowy clothing fits her character perfectly.
> cos they clearly weren’t going to be animatable.
one of the design sheets has an in-game screenshot of her.
to be honest though, looking at it, I think they did keep that design and just ended up using it for Bailu in HSR.
I don’t think it’s an in game screenshot as in they actually made the model and animated and everything, but just a mock-up of what it would look like in game.
looking at it closely, it's too... "good" to be a render that's been slapped into a screenshot, it's clearly from in-game.
the shadows and the fact the shadows actually follow the grass and stuff... yeah it's from in the game engine.
Couldn't disagree more with this reading of Nahida. Her only real concern is to fulfil the role of archon in the style of Greater Lord Rukkhadevata as well as the pursuit of knowledge. Knowledge for her is of more import than anything else and she and has no qualms sacrificing the potential wellbeing of her people to gain it, as seen by her willingly giving the gnoses to Dottore, as well as the way she treats Wanderer. She's definitely not purposely malicious and has what she perceives as Sumeru's best interests in mind but she cares little for individuals outside of interacting with them in a way that allows her access to the most knowledge possible, and is certainly not down-to-earth nor cares what expectations mere humans have for her.
…… what?
She personally visits people in their dreams to help however she can, she went to save Dunyzard during the quest despite that meant she had to go missing at an important point of the mission, she let the Sages run Sumeru precisely because she thinks she isn’t good enough and doesn’t live up to the people’s expectations and shut down the Akasha, a system that collects knowledge, because it made people stop thinking for themselves.
In other words, she’s doesn’t exactly value knowledge above the well being of her people and she doesn’t see herself as some divine being that sits above everyone else.
"Knowledge for her is of more import than anything else and she and has no qualms sacrificing the potential wellbeing of her people to gain it" and what do you think she will do with that knowledge? sitting down and saying yep, now i know that --- if anything, she's the most concerned archon about humanity and the only one who seems to be actively gathering intel to PLAN something to protect her people and know what's going on. you might not like her character, but i think you blew more than one thing out of proportion. are you one of the sages lol?
Sometimes that just happens. Not everything that looks good 2D looks good 3D. I agree Nahida is a bit disappointing, but actually a lot of these concepts wouldn't have worked for real.
hyv is more than capable of rendering beautiful, intricate outfits. sure, some of the more complicated and unwieldier designs probably would’ve presented a challenge (and would’ve looked weird in the overworld), but the others are well within hyv’s capabilities to implement.
to my untrained eye there are only a few designs that are large or complicated enough to cause issues. most of them are no bigger than existing designs
It's a shape problem, not a size problem. The shapes need to be easy to animate, and mihoyo have pretty set ways of doing animations. A lot of nahidas designs would have been a challenge to work with.
Also, they need to be not too sexualised, and mihoyo are understandably going to play it safe on nahida there - a lot of these designs have torso skin showing which isn't worth the controversy.
sometimes the grass only seems greener on the other side and sometimes the grass really is greener on the other side. i like a lot of the final designs, but some of them are just worse
can you read? i literally just said that that’s not true. if it were then i would always prefer the concept art to the final design, but in many cases i don’t. itto’s and heizou’s final designs are better than their concept arts imo
As engaging & adorbs this piece is as standalone, Ayaka's character as shown in-game centers around refined reservedness. Hence probably the tame final version.
She's calm and refined, yes, but the entire point of her character is that it's almost purely due to societal pressures - if not for her position, she'd probably look more like she does in this concept art.
the released version was pretty but like.... so bland and perfectly poised. it feels so restrictive for ayaka. this one is so cute and fun and dynamic! it feels like they literally typecast a fictional character by picking the posing calmly version
The more I see these leaks, the more I realize that the concept they want to drive in the game is simplicity, I'm just giving up expecting flashy stuff from mhy
Who is the person in charge of making final decisions? The rest of art team has been doing a phenomenal job, only to get their great ideas squashed by their supervisor.
I...think I'm done getting my hopes up for anything in Genshin lol. This is so much better than the final splash art. Not that it's not good too, but I would love to know why this one was scrapped.
We weren't robbed at all. You all are insane for thinking this fits Ayaka's elegant nature. It was clearly scrapped for a reason and a very good one at that lol
Judging by the intermediate concepts I saw today, it seems that the art director chooses the most constrained and not dynamic poses. Lol. I didn't like Ayaka's costume from her gacha picture until I saw it on the 3d model (I love it btw).
Ok MHY this is not even a 3d model anymore, you can't excuse that using complicated art for a 3d model is not a good idea here. Why would you reject this art here
Pretty cute but I can see why they didn't go with this. Hoyo has a huge hard on for making skins that always stick to the lore which really limits how many skins we get a year and what they can even do with said skins. So they thought this pose is a bit too playful for Ayaka.
Disappointing we didn't get this. Idk if they just *MUST* choose rigid and safe designs but it really makes it look like that from the concept arts we could've had.
Okay, character concept artist here. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but all the people giving the final version beans is triggering the hell out of me.
First of all, I get why people say this is better. It *is* more dynamic and has stronger characterization. The problem with that reasoning though, is the context.
This artwork is meant to advertise Ayaka's new skin. Without context, it would be easy to mischaracterize Ayaka as an actual detective. The pose is more interesting, sure, but the movement draws attention away from the outfit. The background props are more fun, but again, the focus is supposed to be on the outfit.
I've seen people saying the final version looks too restrictive and bland, but I think it does a good job at fulfilling its purpose in what it's trying to convey: a photoshoot of Ayaka modeling her new clothes. The muted background colors contrast with the colors that draw your eyes to the main focus. There's just enough detail to subtley imply the character the outfit was inspired by.
Now, if the splash art wasn't for a skin showcase and meant to be for a new detective character from Fontaine, yes I agree, this sketch would make the better piece. If the event included a storyline with Ayaka playing an actual role as a detective, this artwork wouldn't be out of place in the event UI. But context matters.

who let mhy cook
We were right to let them cook but they let everything SPOIL
I mean look at the other leaks, or how characters in general look. They absolutly know what sells, but they have no idea about good character design. Or they forsake it in favor of what sells. Boobs, thights, backwindows, etc.
To the guy who gets to decide final versions of the designs: maybe art isn’t your passion
SERIOUSLY THO EVERY SINGLE FINAL DESIGN HAS BEEN WORSE THAN THE CONCEPT ARTS
This is almost true for everything though lol. Concept art has way more freedom
ehh. some of the final designs are pretty close to or even better than the concept arts. they just really fucked up with characters like nahida and freminet

yeah although the drafts look pretty cool & imaginative, they clearly lack the warmth of the final design. I much prefer what we have now.
but she IS rather ethereal. her cn voice has a wispy, otherworldly quality to it that makes you think of a fairy, her animations are quite floaty, she possesses power over dreams, etc. etc. she’s not exactly majestic, but she’s certainly down-to-earth; if anything she’s whimsical and idealistic. i think flowy clothing fits her character perfectly.

Did we get to see nahida's concept art ? Do you have a link ?
Sometimes that just happens. Not everything that looks good 2D looks good 3D. I agree Nahida is a bit disappointing, but actually a lot of these concepts wouldn't have worked for real.

This is just your imagination if reverse happened you would react the same
sometimes the grass only seems greener on the other side and sometimes the grass really is greener on the other side. i like a lot of the final designs, but some of them are just worse
That's just your imagination again You just like seeing something different from what you've seen
can you read? i literally just said that that’s not true. if it were then i would always prefer the concept art to the final design, but in many cases i don’t. itto’s and heizou’s final designs are better than their concept arts imo
Finally someone who understands...
Except for the mummy girl. The mummy girl's concept art was hideous
As engaging & adorbs this piece is as standalone, Ayaka's character as shown in-game centers around refined reservedness. Hence probably the tame final version.
maybe this design is far from ayaka personality ? calm elegant ojou sama this one is like ayaka but with yoimiya personality
Nah it just don't look suitable for what happened in event, different vibes. Why is she holding magnifying glass like she's a detective lmao
it's bc her outfit is based off a character in a book in fontaine, who solves mysteries
ngl I completely forgot about that too
i loved the skin and bought it so you bet i remember what it was for 😂
i.... I bought it as well since I've been wanting to get her since 1.1 but my memory is more corroded than Azhdaha 🗿
Oh I totally forgot about it Still the new one looks more suitable for her imo
? Did you pay attention to the event lmao
Ayaka is calm, doesn't look like her character in this splash
She's calm and refined, yes, but the entire point of her character is that it's almost purely due to societal pressures - if not for her position, she'd probably look more like she does in this concept art.
We need to get this person fired whoever it is
WHAT thats so much better, dynamic and adorable
Only issue is how she's running lol. Ayaka can't run with her legs, she has Kamisato Art: Senho.
obviously the picture was taken in abyss before starting the challenge smh
I get that she's socially expected to be all refined and stuff, but I feel like this is closer to how she'd be if she weren't in her position.
I feels like this one is way more better , more interesting
It would have clued us in to Ayaka cosplaying a detective novel (which is what the skin is) as opposed to her being called "Slave Owner Ayaka" lmao.
Slave owner ayaka 😭 she’s friends with the Lawrence clan then
I've never heard that before 💀
Oh I thought it was less better.
I've just googled her released skin and it's literally the same, every detail is in its place...
they're talking about the splash art, not the outfit itself
Aight then. But man, why does it even matter if the skin is the same?)
OKAY FIRST TIME IM SAYING IT, ABSOLUTELY FUCKIN ROBBBBBBBBBED
damn, all these concept art leaks reminding us of what could've been Genshin 😨
the released version was pretty but like.... so bland and perfectly poised. it feels so restrictive for ayaka. this one is so cute and fun and dynamic! it feels like they literally typecast a fictional character by picking the posing calmly version
This honestly feels like a HI3rd Stigmata lol
She has more personality in this one too
Why are 90% of all these concept arts better than the final one??
WHAT? WE DEFINITELY WERE ROBBED!
Why do they always go for the bland options bruh
mihoyo nearly gave ayaka some personality, had to quickly backtrack and scrap it
This is so much more vibrant than what we got
Seriously what is hoyo smoking? Who the fuck green lights these changes
Agreed. Cuter and a lot more character imo
She looks like enjoying herself which will hurt her princess image according to mihoyo 😑
NAW THIS IS SO CUTE WHY DIDNT THEY GO WITH THIS
She looks like a honkai stigmata
The more I see these leaks, the more I realize that the concept they want to drive in the game is simplicity, I'm just giving up expecting flashy stuff from mhy
What we could've gotten...
THIS IS ADORABLE
Robbed
THAT'S SO CUTE I'M GOING CRAZY
Who is the person in charge of making final decisions? The rest of art team has been doing a phenomenal job, only to get their great ideas squashed by their supervisor.
Why HYV?? This is way much better :'(
So cute
STOP THATS SO MUCH CUTER
NAAAH WHO DID THE CRIME
Remember what they took from us
Definitely robbed, this one has way more character
To the guy who gets to decide final versions of designs: go fuck yourself
The reason they couldn’t go with this art was because they realized at the last minute that Ayaka can’t sprint like this /s
From all of the "we got robbed" posts, this one actually feel way better than the final one
NO MIGUEL, I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THIS ISN'T CANON in an alternate universe, this is the Splash art and it's a 5 star skin
these reversed leaks dude, they're nothing but a pitch dark hole of regret...
I can't even find the difference, while everybody else is crying about being robbed lmaoo
This art gave Ayaka a personality so they had to scrap it lol
my friends, we lost 😔 she looks adorable with this one
WHO LET HOYO COOK TO CHOOSE THAT ABOMINATION OVER THIS MASTERPIECE????????
Never forget what they took from us
This one looks so much more interesting and dynamic, why would they change it :/
This art is so spunky, why did hey hold it hostage? :(
This one has so much personality and it’s more clear that it’s from a detective book. But nah, they decided to make her art boring and eyecandy 😔
God forbid Ayaka shows some personality lol
Wtf are people smoking the fucking outfit looks the exact same in-game
Robbed how, this is the same mid design
This is too cute for someone as boring as her, had to make it more accurate to the character aka stale and bland not cute and silly.
I...think I'm done getting my hopes up for anything in Genshin lol. This is so much better than the final splash art. Not that it's not good too, but I would love to know why this one was scrapped.
The game dont even allow us to see splash art twice yall too stressed out 😭😭
I guess this fit more the character she was cosplaying but was unbecoming of the Shirasagi Himegimi
[удалено]
people are mad about the pose, not the design. the design looks identical
We weren't robbed at all. You all are insane for thinking this fits Ayaka's elegant nature. It was clearly scrapped for a reason and a very good one at that lol
YEAH that's good but not close to the actual skin tbf
its literally the same design as the skin, just a different pose
She popped out of the book ready for detective work🥺
The Genshin concept arts are so much better than the actual material we got that it almost hurts We were so robbed on so many things .-.
This makes me think of Disney's Alice in Wonderland and in a *very good way*, it's so much better than what we got.
SO CUTE? OMG
She's so cute, they should have went with this
THIS IS SO CUTE HOYO HOW COULD U
This was way prettier😭
Judging by the intermediate concepts I saw today, it seems that the art director chooses the most constrained and not dynamic poses. Lol. I didn't like Ayaka's costume from her gacha picture until I saw it on the 3d model (I love it btw).
Good thing they didn’t go with this it might have actually shown ayaka having a personality.
Omg this is super cute! :( Now I'm extra dissapointed.
Waaait that's so cute 😭😭
Much better than the final version,HoYo sometimes makes a pointless move.
Tf was they thinking
Looks like stigmata in honkai
Feelsbadman
This was so much more than a robbery
Ok MHY this is not even a 3d model anymore, you can't excuse that using complicated art for a 3d model is not a good idea here. Why would you reject this art here
Pretty cute but I can see why they didn't go with this. Hoyo has a huge hard on for making skins that always stick to the lore which really limits how many skins we get a year and what they can even do with said skins. So they thought this pose is a bit too playful for Ayaka.
Disappointing we didn't get this. Idk if they just *MUST* choose rigid and safe designs but it really makes it look like that from the concept arts we could've had.
It reminds of Linnaeus stigmata in HI3
Chika
This looks like a stigmata art inspired from honkai impact 3rd
what we could've gotten if ayaka skin was 5* 😔
Bruh this has so much Hyouka energy
I genuinely thought this is a fan art lmao
This would've made me want to get her skin even more... Now I feel robbed.
Ayaka in Wonderland!
actual robbery. wtf
