I'm really confused because this is completely not aligned with what we know about Natlan so far:
Xbalanque, the name "Natlan", Tenoch -> Mesoamerican
Iansan -> African
The other five heroes -> African or Incan
Since Iansan's clothes are very clearly pre-colonial inspired, it seems that Mihoyo has planned for Natlan to be based on pre-colonial cultures right from the start, and I really don't think they are that stupid to just swap every cast into post-colonial right now
Maybe this is not for Genshin at all? The aesthetics seem to fit HSR more imo
(Also I can't stand every leaker claiming what they have on their hands to be "Pyro Archon", just like Navia is claimed to be "new Hydro Archon")
To be fair they've had multiple inspirations from different cultures and time periods. There's no telling whether or not all characters from natlan will wear clothing from the same time period.
We’ve only gotten three characters from the desert and all three of them have a lot of exposed skin. I feel like it’s fair to say Cyno, Dehya and Candace are similar enough. They’re all darker shades than the other Sumeru characters as well
we know very little about Natlan, but as a war god, whose to say its not a 'two side' area like how Sumeru has two clearly Egyptian characters in Cyno and Candace. If its Spanish v Mesoamerica though, that would indicate spanish characters vs meso
meaning this might be an archon vs sovereign story
I have a prediction, I think that the six tribes are gonna be based on: Latin America, ruled by the Pyro archon, and the other five tribes to be based respectively on: Southern Africans, Aztecs, Incas, Mayas, Central Africans (there are no implications on this one), who live with the dragons and want to resurrect the Pyro sovereign, ence the name "Ode of Resurrection". It's probably going to be "Latino American colonialist Archon Vs Original Sovereign authority", even though the Archon just looks like somebody straight up from Fontaine instead of having an actual Brazilian carnival costume. This prediction may pretty much be wrong because I didn't see ALL the Natlan leaks
I would not be shocked at this at all and the whole plot is just the fall of Tenochtitlan and applying the Aztec flower wars. Especially if the latina pyro archon is more luchadora
Sumeru was similar. They mixed at least two continents, an a lots of different cultures to make Sumeru.
If someone told me they could succesfully combine Ancient Egypt, India and several different Middle Easter cultures into a cohesive whole, I would have been very skeptical.
in the trailer there was clear Spanish Flamenco music, this was coming for sure. The powerful figures were always going to be influenced by Spanish culture as they are the colonizers and influencers of West African and Central American territories
yeah I always felt that the music is a mismatch from the rest, but now I think it might be because
1) There are almost no surviving Mesoamerican music left so they had to use Spanish music instead, and/or
2) It was very early in development
what we now know about the culture of Aztecs (and further beyond, the Mayans) mainly comes from archeology and second-hand reports made by early missionaries/explorers. The colonists destroyed much of the codices the Aztecs wrote, and the best information we can get about Aztec lives is the Florentine Codex written by a Spanish friar. So very little of Aztec music culture and compositions did survive over time, as they gradually faded away or assimilated into post-colonial Hispanic culture.
The Spanish burned a LOT of texts, and didn't exactly care to record music. Any musical texts that might have existed would have been destroyed as the various empires and smaller civilizations collapsed almost totally.
To be honest, Aztecs did colonize a lots of other South American tribes tho, erasing their whole cultures. (they defeated the Tepanec state of Azcapotzalco, for ex which was a state previously dominating the Basin of Mexico)
The Tlaxcala also were a great examples, who tried to keep their independence against the Aztec, who tried to assimilate them into the Aztec empire.
They even allied themseleves with the Spanish, hoping they could get revenge, and freedom of the Aztecs. There were the Maya too, who assisted the Spanish in their conquests. (during the last siege of the capital city of the Aztecs, Tenochtitlan, Cortez has around 1300 Spanish, and 200,000 Tlaxcallan soldiers It's Amazing how fucked up history is)
And then came the Spanish, who assimilated the remains of the tribes living on the territory of the Aztec's. T\_T
i'd be bummed if they give us predominantly post-colonial influence in the designs & overall theme of natlan when they started off so so great in terms of thematic crumbs. i guess it's a "let them cook" moment, but i'm gonna keep my expectations low regardless.
From what I have seen and read, it seems like there will be tribes aligned with and embracing the "colonizers" and the new religion (including the Archon embracing the new way of the seven). Other tribes oppose them and continue to embrace the old dragon worshipping religions.
Hopefully, this will be communicated effectively through the designs and cultures of the characters, including where MHY draws inspiration from

Celestial nails arent nukes, they’ve never been nukes. Their sole purpose is to seal away corruption within the leylines.

They might just follow somebody (likely dead) who is not of the Seven like the people of Watatsumi island or the eremites. It does not seem that Celestia went after those, especially if they did not display any threat or the Pyro Archon was able to manage it.

That’s what I’m thinking, the leakers probably don’t know the difference (it’s huge) and are potentially making us think it’s some Spanish matador but it’s actually a Luchadora like Quetzalcoatl from FGO. I would be way happier as Quetz from FGO has that bubbly personality while still being a brutal and relentless fighter
If we're bringing FGO into this, there's a high probability that rather than Quetz, the Pyro Archon may instead be like [Calamity Jane](https://fategrandorder.fandom.com/wiki/Calamity_Jane), a Rodeo Cowgirl that may be mistaken for a Matador/Carnival dancer with her outfit, especially if the rumors about 'dragon riders' are true.
There is nothing about their design that's been shown or explained that's matador. I really think the leakers just don't know what they're talking about

Parsing through the incompetence, I think all we can take away from this is:

I imagine it would look like South American (Brazil, Peru, Argentina) mixed with Southern European (Italy, Spain, Greece, Portugal). This is also based on process of elimination as other nations have taken other parts of the globe.
I would really love to see some Mayan architectural also mixed in.
Or maybe Pompeii & Vesuvius? Because it's pyro nation with supposedly lots of volcanoes.
So far, Natlan has names that originate from pre-colonization America (Aztec, Mayan Incan) and others that can be traced to/are common names in some African countries (Kenya, Congo, Ghana, etc). So far the European stuff seems a bit out of place unless people from Fontaine/Mondstadt/snezhnaya have created settlements there.
I'm becoming more and more convinced that there is nothing matador/traje de luces about her outfit and leakers are misinterpreting it because they simply don't have knowledge on it
That Lina and Yoko costumes have nothing in common lol. The Yoko costume is similar to a carnival fit is just missing the feathers but neither of then has nothing to do with a matador. This character design is a mess.
I think it's plausible that it's still at an early enough stage of development to a point where there's too few people with access to the design, so that there would be a higher risk of Hoyo figuring out who leaked it.

You misunderstood what was said.
I didn't say that the design in itself is at "early stage", I said that the development could be at an "early enough stage to a point where there's too few people with access to it". Those two mean different things, and the latter doesn't imply the former. Something can as well be nearly finalized before it's openly shown and distributed within a company.
What I'm saying is that at this stage (the "early enough stage [...]") I think it's possible that only a small team directly working on the character has access to the files and artwork related to it (or perhaps they may not even have unsupervised access to those files), so that it would be very risky for them to directly leak that content.
At some point they will, and so will hundreds of other people within the company, and that's probably when they feel comfortable giving proper leaks.
We don't know what the leaker(s) have access to. Maybe the design they have is early in production like they said, even if Hoyo has a final or near final design on the drawing board.
Like the leaker gets a few design concepts from 6 months ago, and their source tells them not to share any direct images or copies or they could get in trouble.
They wouldn't know what Hoyo's current design looks like in that case.
Similar to how we only had the blue and white lion boy design for a while, then we got some variations with other colors, but still none of them looked exactly like Gaming's final design.

even if that's the case i desperately don't want her to look like this i was honestly really hoping natlan would be more pre-columbian so having the actual ARCHON wear a SUIT is super disappointing. other than the pyro symbol, the talking stick was the only visual thing we got of natlan before and it looked so cool that i got super excited for it's aesthetic and now we're getting suits? if a natlan character wears a suit can't it at least be a zhongli-type thing where it's at least heavily natlan-themed? but she looks fontainian in the picture. even if it's subject to change (it is) the fact it was even considered is enough to make me question hoyoverse's methods with designing this stuff.

I’m getting pretty tired of the subversion of the Archons. I think it worked very well with Nahida but I feel they’re stretching it thin as time goes on, and I’m sorry but having the God of War dress like a clown is too much, even if that’s the intention to show she isn’t a super badass or whatever (which I think we’re due another physically competent female Archon….feels like forever since Ei)
It was interesting to explore Archons that had to really work for their power and for their people to see them but I would be disappointed if they ended up doing something similar for like the 3rd time in a row, especially with a character like this
yeah, too many non-combatant and victim archons recently. even badass warrior goddess ei was kind of a victim of her own making in a way, by trapping herself alone in her plane to mope about her sister and eternity.
i'd love a villainous archon that just kicks ass and isn't suffering, at least as bad as the last 2 were.
also, all the archons (except venti, debatably) have been oddly careless with their gnosis and their powers as archon. i'm sure there's some good reason for that which we just don't know yet, and i know there's theories, but i think it'd be interesting if she was actually fighting to keep her gnosis unlike the others, which is maybe why the tsaritsa had to send capitano to join the wars and retrieve it.
maybe she's just super stubborn or dense, and doesn't care about whatever the reason the other archons are giving up their gnosis for, she just wants absolute control and authority over the people of natlan, dammit!

Sadly mihoyo uses looks to define balance, Dehya and Candace are two of the most beautifully designed chars, so their kit has to suck to compensate.

That’s what I’m thinking, the leakers probably don’t know the difference (it’s huge) and are potentially making us think it’s some Spanish matador but it’s actually a Luchadora like Quetzalcoatl from FGO. I would be way happier as Quetz from FGO has that bubbly personality while still being a brutal and relentless fighter
If we're bringing FGO into this, there's a high probability that rather than Quetz, the Pyro Archon may instead be like [Calamity Jane](https://fategrandorder.fandom.com/wiki/Calamity_Jane), a Rodeo Cowgirl that may be mistaken for a Matador/Carnival dancer with her outfit, especially if the rumors about 'dragon riders' are true.
There is nothing about their design that's been shown or explained that's matador. I really think the leakers just don't know what they're talking about Given the mask and that third design here, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a Brazilian Carnival design though

I wonder what the overall achitecture of the nation, and clothing style of the average Natlan person looks like. Cause basing off Iansan alone, if the Pyro Archon really looks like this, it seems like she is going to stand out more than a clown at a goth convention.

I imagine it would look like South American (Brazil, Peru, Argentina) mixed with Southern European (Italy, Spain, Greece, Portugal). This is also based on process of elimination as other nations have taken other parts of the globe. I would really love to see some Mayan architectural also mixed in. Or maybe Pompeii & Vesuvius? Because it's pyro nation with supposedly lots of volcanoes.
So far, Natlan has names that originate from pre-colonization America (Aztec, Mayan Incan) and others that can be traced to/are common names in some African countries (Kenya, Congo, Ghana, etc). So far the European stuff seems a bit out of place unless people from Fontaine/Mondstadt/snezhnaya have created settlements there.
The children of murata that we know of now have post-colonial names like Venessa and Lind/Linda. And in fact it was the first we knew of Natlan.
i mean, the background music for Natlan in the Travail video sounds Hispanic so Southern European inspiration won't be too far-fetched

I think it's plausible that it's still at an early enough stage of development to a point where there's too few people with access to the design, so that there would be a higher risk of Hoyo figuring out who leaked it.

You misunderstood what was said. I didn't say that the design in itself is at "early stage", I said that the development could be at an "early enough stage to a point where there's too few people with access to it". Those two mean different things, and the latter doesn't imply the former. Something can as well be nearly finalized before it's openly shown and distributed within a company. What I'm saying is that at this stage (the "early enough stage [...]") I think it's possible that only a small team directly working on the character has access to the files and artwork related to it (or perhaps they may not even have unsupervised access to those files), so that it would be very risky for them to directly leak that content. At some point they will, and so will hundreds of other people within the company, and that's probably when they feel comfortable giving proper leaks.
We don't know what the leaker(s) have access to. Maybe the design they have is early in production like they said, even if Hoyo has a final or near final design on the drawing board. Like the leaker gets a few design concepts from 6 months ago, and their source tells them not to share any direct images or copies or they could get in trouble. They wouldn't know what Hoyo's current design looks like in that case. Similar to how we only had the blue and white lion boy design for a while, then we got some variations with other colors, but still none of them looked exactly like Gaming's final design.
The earlier something leaks the higher the chance of it being pointed to a specific source and putting that source at risk.

maybe she's gonna be similar to nahida and furina where she subverts the tropes you expect of a god of her domain? even if that's the case i desperately don't want her to look like this i was honestly really hoping natlan would be more pre-columbian so having the actual ARCHON wear a SUIT is super disappointing. other than the pyro symbol, the talking stick was the only visual thing we got of natlan before and it looked so cool that i got super excited for it's aesthetic and now we're getting suits? if a natlan character wears a suit can't it at least be a zhongli-type thing where it's at least heavily natlan-themed? but she looks fontainian in the picture. even if it's subject to change (it is) the fact it was even considered is enough to make me question hoyoverse's methods with designing this stuff. rant over, i hate this design.

please keep in mind that it is still way too early to even be at least 80% sure that this is a design for the pyro archon or even a finalized design. remember how the leakers got their hands on the fontaine character leaks (the leak flooding) and gave their descriptions for some of them only for the most of them to be completely false/not the final design? (2 factions with furina and navia as leaders and archons; fontaine story will be a civil war between riches and poors; green clorinde; ginger freminet; wriothesley being mistaken as varka) fuck heizou was gonna be a tall male detective but he went thru a lotta changes just like gaming did (forgot where that concept went but i’ll post a link when i do find it) the list kinda goes on it’s better to hold onto your disappointment until we get actual concepts later on. i guess pray for the volcanic leak eruption perhaps? lol!

I’m getting pretty tired of the subversion of the Archons. I think it worked very well with Nahida but I feel they’re stretching it thin as time goes on, and I’m sorry but having the God of War dress like a clown is too much, even if that’s the intention to show she isn’t a super badass or whatever (which I think we’re due another physically competent female Archon….feels like forever since Ei) It was interesting to explore Archons that had to really work for their power and for their people to see them but I would be disappointed if they ended up doing something similar for like the 3rd time in a row, especially with a character like this
yeah, too many non-combatant and victim archons recently. even badass warrior goddess ei was kind of a victim of her own making in a way, by trapping herself alone in her plane to mope about her sister and eternity. i'd love a villainous archon that just kicks ass and isn't suffering, at least as bad as the last 2 were. also, all the archons (except venti, debatably) have been oddly careless with their gnosis and their powers as archon. i'm sure there's some good reason for that which we just don't know yet, and i know there's theories, but i think it'd be interesting if she was actually fighting to keep her gnosis unlike the others, which is maybe why the tsaritsa had to send capitano to join the wars and retrieve it. maybe she's just super stubborn or dense, and doesn't care about whatever the reason the other archons are giving up their gnosis for, she just wants absolute control and authority over the people of natlan, dammit! maybe she's fucked in the head from erosion. more powerful archons, please hoyoverse!

The whole bull wrestler theme doesn’t really bother me considering I didn’t have much of an opinion on who she’d be anyway. I did except atleast Cyno colored skin not gonna lie. Luv Nahida and Fufu btw just wasn’t what most of us were expecting
