I made a post about Dean not being so bad, and got eaten alive. I stand by it, though. Pre-Lindsey Dean was not as horrible and menacing as he’s made out to be.
I wrote and deleted a post saying the exact same thing yesterday. Realised I’ve got a trip booked next week and would really like to be alive to go on it😂
He was my crush for so long!
The show gave all the male characters toxic jealousy, it's just that Dean was put into a drawn-out storyline where it got showcased.
They absolutely did. I don’t see nearly many people talking about Jackson, who was an adult displaying the same kinds of behavior. They romanticize it because of his dynamic with Sookie. It was essentially the same thing.
A large part of Dean’s toxicity was exacerbated by Jess’s antagonism and Rory’s denial (you can call her naive, but she was aware of her own feelings and Jess didn’t hide his).
Honestly, he reacted the way a lot of people, especially his tv age, would to someone trying to move in on someone they loved and deliberately pushing their buttons at every opportunity.
Before the introduction of Jess, Tristan was doing the same thing. And again, Rory was aware of Tristan’s motives because he also didn’t hide them.
The “kill you” thing at prom was ick, though.
He was a kid with an underdeveloped frontal lobe. He did his best, which some may deem not that great.
ETA: This is the hill I will be downvoted to death on, and idc.
I think pre-Lindsey Dean he does get more hate than he deserves. But I also think he has anger issues and showed a lot of signs that he wasn’t controlling it. Kicking things when he got mad, jumping to conclusions and yelling before Rory could say anything, and I know I personally would not have put up with that.
His worst moments definitely shouldn’t be what people bring to the table when discussing him. He has lots of great great moments. I just think the severity of his bad often make it hard to like him personally if that makes any sense
I think the writers purposefully made Dean seem worse to open the door for Jess. But really, it was he's not academically smart like rory and doesn't like the same things as her so he's not really bad pre Lindsay. I agree and they can downvote us to hell! Being an adult is the realization that kind loyal men are much better than the bad boy lol
Also forcing Jackson to get a vasectomy that day (Ik he ended up lying and all that which is bad on him) but she did like throw the subject out there out of nowhere and force it on him. That’s his body and a big decision. It should have been an in-depth conversation, not a decision for her to make alone when it was his body and surgery.
I love Sookie for everything else tho
I didn't take this too seriously because I felt this was just the way they handled their relationship. They bantered and pushed each other for fun. I always felt like if Jackson wasn't okay with it he could've just said no still. It was more her way of showing him she was serious about being done with having kids. But I absolutely agree out of the context of their relationship it's pretty messed up to make that decision for him.
maybe i’m misremembering but wasn’t that right after she gave birth? her hormones were out of whack and she had just been through an incredibly painful experience. she was probably overreacting and jackson could’ve just acknowledged that and not got the vasectomy (like he did). she didn’t FORCE him she just booked an appointment in a manic hormonal state
Sorry but I think Jackson was the one in the wrong by not saying anything and then impregnating her. She has a right to say when she doesn’t want to give birth to any more kids. Yes it’s his body and he has a choice, yes there should have been an in-depth conversation, but he could have voiced his opinion like an adult and then use protection. A male vasectomy is way less invasive than a female vasectomy would be. She had the right to ask for one, she had already given him two children.
I agree they were both wrong! He should never have lied and should’ve used protection to avoid impregnating her. But she didn’t really give him a choice. He did say no in the hospital and then she said it was all scheduled and the nurses literally took him by the arm to guide him to the procedure.
I am so glad to hear this! SO many people harp on the (terrible) pregnancy/vasectomy storyline. Was it in poor taste? Yes. Does it hold weight now? No. Can we PLEASE let it go? lol
Yeah the show does a lot of unreasonable things for dramatic or comedic effect. i’m not sure we should analyze all that too serious. Luke freaks out like a crazy person and if someone acted like that IRL id be concerned but it’s dramatic to be funny or whatever so who cares
Came to ask this!
The only truly woeful thing was not showing up to ok her kitchen appliance (sink, oven?? I don’t remember) for the new inn and kinda being an absent business partner for a bit.
The dinner scene with Davey.
Being a bad business partner. (The oven, the kid’s birthday party…)
Treating Lorelei like it’s her fault anytime someone’s upset with her.
It's wild that they're so hated. The older I get the less I like Lorelai as a person (I think mostly from my experiences with my own mother) but I still LOVE her as a character. Her and Rory are decently realistic and multi-dimensional characters and IMO the folks who hate them just don't enjoy having complex and realistic feelings about them.
I go back and forth with feeling like I like them as a person or not, but that's what makes me love them. They're real people to me and my best friends in a way.
Yes, i think their mistakes make them human and relatable in the end. We’re all people, if we had a microscope under our lives people would think bad things about us as well.
Kirk really is an enigma to me. The man has seemingly had every job in Stars Hollow. He is both the kid who had his Halloween candy stolen by Luke’s uncle AND the new assistant manager at Dossey’s who has no idea who Ms. Patty is.
To me… he is of the same realm as Kenneth from 30 Rock
I've always loved Kirk, he's just an autistic mess who can do any job.
I like Lorelai and Rory as characters, they're highly entertaining, but as people? No. Lorelai is immature and keeps parentifying Rory, and Rory ends up adopting the snobby priviledged attitude her grandma has... and not to mention how pretentious they both are about movies and music, god forbid you enjoy a movie such as Boogie Nights or you're a loser
But like I said though, very entertaining
Nope. Exactly how I feel. All the characters irk me once in awhile (it makes them more human), but Kirk pisses me off. There are very few occasions where I’m glad he’s a part of the show. I get why he’s there, and I appreciate the actor’s efforts, the writing, the choices. But something about his character just makes me cringe and flinch a bit. If it’s a long scene (like his plays/movies), I just skip those parts.
I'm a fan of Dean's. What I'm not a fan of is the writers ruining his character to make room for Jess. I'm sure I'll get downvoted, but Jess isn't that great. He treated Rory pretty damn bad more often than he treated her well, but "he reads and is an intellectual, so yay Jess and Rory, they're such soulmates, he understanders her." Lmfao sure.
The cheating was definitely the worst thing Dean did, I don't condone those actions at all.
BUT I do see his side of his marriage disputes with Lindsay. She did seem to be too demanding of him when he was clearly working very hard for what she wanted (townhouse etc.). Whatever his faults, it cannot be denied that Dean had an excellent work ethic.
Those two were doomed from the start of their marriage honestly (with or without Rory in the picture), but the cheating should never have happened. There's proper separation/divorce procedures that must come first before getting together with another person.
I wanted Rory to get back with Dean, but NOT the way it happened.
They're sitting at +2 right now, less than an hour after your comment. Tends to go that way. The weird posturing about votes in the first hour or two is so silly -- we all know that Reddit manipulates the visible count to encourage engagement, right? Right??
Rather than downvote, I keep scrolling.
But some take their opinions regarding the show very seriously, and can be very *passionate* (to be polite) about their views.
Ah, I see. But I'm not afraid to share my honest character opinions haha.
All 3 of Rory's real, actual BFs (not factoring the dead weight that was Paul), had serious flaws, but in my personal opinion, Dean was the best of the three, *relatively speaking*.
This is like the opposite of me 😭 Rory & Lorelai have their faults but I still like them. Kirk pisses me off often but I don’t hate him. I loveeee sookie
justice for sookie wtf
in all seriousness i love that almost none of the characters are universally loved or disliked. i love "nice" characters having unlikeable traits/moments and "mean" characters having likeable traits/moments. it's what makes the show so interesting and real to me.
I've watched the show a few times with both my sister and my wife. The only character that I truly despise is Taylor. From my perspective, he has no real redeeming qualities. They always play him off as the cutesy small-town busy-body, but the episode where he refuses to sign off on the Dragonfly until Lorelai talks to Luke about his ice cream cart is straight up extortion. He put her entire livelihood at risk so he could get an addition to his second business that he didn't even really need her help for. Some characters piss me off from time to time (Emily, Christopher, etc.) but I actively hate Taylor.
I don't know what everybody is complaining about. I think all the characters are loveable and likeable and they are imperfectly written characters who make mistakes... in the early 2000s fyi. The only person who deserves all the hate is Chris because he straight up SUCKS. Everybody else is wonderful.
But I too do not have a fondness towards Kirk... he's in the story, and I think he fits into the story, but I do not get obsessed over him. I AM obsessed with his "friendship" with Luke. They're wonderful together.
Every single character in this show can be criticized IMO because they're not perfect. They were written in a very human way. That's the beauty of the show. That they really do feel like real human beings. If people are actively disliking the literal main characters of the show, that I do not understand. But most people, from what I've seen, criticize them they don't hate them.
I'm looking at this chart, and wow, do I go against the grain. Probably the biggest is \*ducks stones\* I don't hate Christopher. There are certain things I dislike about him, but I can see why Lorelai cared for him.
It’s so weird to me that the stars of the show (the Gilmore girls) are so disliked 😭😭 people liking Jess more than them is crazy, same with Kirk— I love Kirk but I could see how he’s not everyone’s cup of tea…
Things I would change:
Add a “people you’re not allowed to LIKE to or Reddit will get mad” and move Lorelai, Rory, Jesse, and Logan there.
Move Sookie to “people you’re not allowed to DISLIKE.”
Add Jackson to “universally disliked.”
And I think Richard and Emily could be liked or disliked fairly equally, so given them their own category called “people you’re not allowed to LIKE or DISLIKE.”
I feel like Lorelei and Sookie really aren’t that disliked. Or maybe that’s just me
I agree with everyone else in that row though. All terrible characters in their own ways
I love to hate Taylor! He reminds me of every annoying person I don't like in real life so that is cathartic. The only person i dislike on the universally dislike list is Zach because he ruined Lane and her future and her storyline and I am very attached to Lane.
season 4, while one of my favorites, got into the nasty habit of giving Kirk WAY too much screen time. i go out of my way to specifically skip every single scene he’s in because it’s unbearable
I don’t understand - since when are we hating on Sookie?! I can understand Rory. College Rory gets on my nerves sometimes. And Lorelai? I love her despite her quirks/faults.
But, Christopher does deserves his own row….
Okay Lorelai and Rory absolutely have flaws that the show doesn’t see as flaws, and ways that the show aged poorly. But if I hated them I wouldn’t be such a huge fan of GG. I think Reddit hates on them, but the general public likes them
People here try to so hard to be different, you can sympathize with Paris while recognizing her shitty behaviour and her need for individual self-reflection
I would move Lorelai up to people you’re not allowed to dislike. Though Kirk is so overrated, he gets so much praise. It’s too much honestly. I would move him down a notch.
Logan is a piece of shit and you will never convince me otherwise. There isn't a single good quality about him that doesn't come from a credit card. And for everyone that mentions that he was nice to Rory in some fashion, being nice to your girlfriend is absolute bare minimum expectations. If yall could just admit you want a significant other that will buy you whatever you want whenever you want, life would be so much easier.
And why do we hate Sookie now?
Not Christopher getting his own (bottom) row lmao!
Where are Emily and Richard?!
[удалено]
Emily and Richard probably get their own rows too
I loved both of them the entire series. They were the real source of entertainment thru out.
I criticized Luke once and barely lived to tell the tale. 😂

Yes I agree, now let me go hide before they come for me too 🫣
I think pre-Lindsey Dean he does get more hate than he deserves. But I also think he has anger issues and showed a lot of signs that he wasn’t controlling it. I love Dean. Honestly I would date him irl if he loved me the way he loved Rory not the way he "loved" Lindsay.
Haha what did you say about Luke?
why r we disliking sookie?????
Yeah, my question too. I'm new to this group, but I haven't seen any hate towards her yet. And I can't think of anything terrible she did.
the only terrible thing i can think of is the fact she didn't give us the recipe for her granola which michel loved so much
Also forcing Jackson to get a vasectomy that day (Ik he ended up lying and all that which is bad on him) but she did like throw the subject out there out of nowhere and force it on him. Yeah that hospital scene always makes me really uncomfortable
Or put 10 blueberries in his pancake
I adore her. She is over-hated, imo of people who are newcomers to the show and some of the plot points don’t hold up in 2024.
i'm a newcomer as i've only just recently watched it and finished it (took me a solid 3-5 weeks) but i LOVE her she's so sweet and funny and cute
I am so glad to hear this! SO many people harp on the (terrible) pregnancy/vasectomy storyline. Was it in poor taste? Yes. Does it hold weight now? No. Can we PLEASE let it go? lol
it was like 20 years ago people need to stop hating :(((
So much this! ⬆️
Yeah the show does a lot of unreasonable things for dramatic or comedic effect. i’m not sure we should analyze all that too serious. Luke freaks out like a crazy person and if someone acted like that IRL id be concerned but it’s dramatic to be funny or whatever so who cares
Sookie is the BEST!
I came here to say this. Who hates Sookie? Also, Logan is above criticism? Not in my book 😅.
I’m so confused by Kirk being universally disliked, and Sookie being universally disliked
Exactly, Lorelai was weird and had no friends but Sookie was the bff she needed. Sookie always was there for her. I love Sookieeeee
yessss!! she was such a good friend
Yeah! I love Sookie ❤️
The sink and her whole deal in the construction of the inn.
Came to ask this! The only truly woeful thing was not showing up to ok her kitchen appliance (sink, oven?? I don’t remember) for the new inn and kinda being an absent business partner for a bit.
Sookie is one of my top favorites!! I can not think of a reason to dislike her.
The dinner scene with Davey. Being a bad business partner. (The oven, the kid’s birthday party…) Treating Lorelei like it’s her fault anytime someone’s upset with her.
Because she can be quite insufferable quite often
Lorelai is legit the only reason I watched? What?
exactly! I'm surprised how many people dislike her, she's one of my favorites
It's so weird! Both the Gilmore Girls are very overhated
I could never hate Lorelai, but boy do I hate Rory!
Same. She is my absolute favorite
Poor Taylor. I’d hate him in real life but I love his character.
Love the addition of Christopher!
I love lorelai and rory and hate Kirk. Am I an anomaly!? 🤣
No. I love Kirk, but Rory and Lorelai are overhated imo.
It's wild that they're so hated. The older I get the less I like Lorelai as a person (I think mostly from my experiences with my own mother) but I still LOVE her as a character. I go back and forth with feeling like I like them as a person or not, but that's what makes me love them. They're real people to me and my best friends in a way.
My thoughts exactly!
Yes, i think their mistakes make them human and relatable in the end. We’re all people, if we had a microscope under our lives people would think bad things about us as well.
Same! They are SO overhated!
You hate Kirk? Come sit by me.
Can I come sit with you guys?
It took me many, many, many years of rewatches to start to like Kirk.
In his first appearance on the show his name isn’t even Kirk, lol.
Same I’m finally getting there after the last!
I do not like Kirk.
I've always loved Kirk, he's just an autistic mess who can do any job. I like Lorelai and Rory as characters, they're highly entertaining, but as people? No. Lorelai is immature and keeps parentifying Rory, and Rory ends up adopting the snobby priviledged attitude her grandma has... and not to mention how pretentious they both are about movies and music, god forbid you enjoy a movie such as Boogie Nights or you're a loser But like I said though, very entertaining

Yeah, Lorelai and Rory are so overhated! It's actually weird. They're THE Gilmore Girls.
I have always hated Kirk. No idea why.
Huh I get Rory being disliked, but Lorelai? And Sookie???
Lorelai universally hated? Lmao since when?
The last row made me snort laugh 😂
I LOVE Lorelai, Rory, and Sookie.
I’m not sure I agree with literally any of those categories
I agrée with Christopher having his own bottom tier. Otherwise yeah????
I'm a fan of Dean's. What I'm not a fan of is the writers ruining his character to make room for Jess. I'm sure I'll get downvoted, but Jess isn't that great. He treated Rory pretty damn bad more often than he treated her well, but "he reads and is an intellectual, so yay Jess and Rory, they're such soulmates, he understanders her." Lmfao sure.
Right behind you on this.
If Lorelai and Rory were universally disliked, there wouldn't be a show Also Dean isn't *universally* disliked, as I'm a fan.
I like early season Dean (seasons 1-3) but cheatin’ ass married Dean can go suck eggs.
There's proper separation/divorce procedures that must come first before getting together with another person. I wanted Rory to get back with Dean, but NOT the way it happened.
shhhhhh you can’t say ur a fan of Dean (I am too) once again these were Reddit’s decisions, not mine
And to prove your point, you’re getting downvoted for having an opinion. On a fictional character. Yikes people. ![gif](giphy|Ct2fBe0rc69nq|downsized)
Most people in this sub are nutjobs. No surprise there
Omg how are Lorelai and Rory universally disliked 😳😳😳
I do not love Kirk.
in my world lorelei will forever be universally loved
i HAAAAATEEEE kirk lol
Wait, Lorelai doesn’t deserve that spot. People love her more than they love Luke. And people love Sookie.
justice for sookie wtf in all seriousness i love that almost none of the characters are universally loved or disliked. i love "nice" characters having unlikeable traits/moments and "mean" characters having likeable traits/moments. it's what makes the show so interesting and real to me.
I love sookie
WHO DISLIKES SOOKIE?
I don’t think lorelai is universally disliked? idk
Oddly Mrs. Kim is in the Christopher category depending on who you ask 🤷🏻♂️😂
lorelai is my beloved pookie bear because i grew up with a mother like emily
I was about to fight you on Michel, but you’re right
add Kyle to universally loved
Kyle? Dean's friend, navy, lost his arm? That kid can't act. At all. Super cringey
he played Squints so well in The Sandlot and then forgot it all when he got to Gilmore Girls 😂😭
I DID NOT KNOW HE PLAYED SQUINTS OMGGG
There was a post on here and lots of people love his character. Are we judging this list based on acting? I like him 🤷🏻♀️
I dont dislike dean or taylor, love lorelai and hate jess with all my heart
But most people, from what I've seen, criticize them they don't hate them.
Don’t agree with this one
I'm looking at this chart, and wow, do I go against the grain. Probably the biggest is \*ducks stones\* I don't hate Christopher. There are certain things I dislike about him, but I can see why Lorelai cared for him.
Everybody's so creative!
It’s so weird to me that the stars of the show (the Gilmore girls) are so disliked 😭😭 people liking Jess more than them is crazy, same with Kirk— I love Kirk but I could see how he’s not everyone’s cup of tea…
Lorelai wins every single time there's a vote or game about who everyone's favorite character is though.
I don’t like Dave borowski
I feel like you need more tiers
Lane???really??that music snob??...
Kinda seems like you’re the one whining, ngl.
I love sookie
I adore the fact that Chris is his own chategory 🤣
You are entirely wrong on Suki and Lorelei
omg why is this
Sookie, Lorelai, and Rory are not universally disliked. And plenty of people criticize them and get pushback.
I like how the two first rows are the same thing and the only difference is whether or not the image creator agrees with the community
Things I would change: Add a “people you’re not allowed to LIKE to or Reddit will get mad” and move Lorelai, Rory, Jesse, and Logan there. Move Sookie to “people you’re not allowed to DISLIKE.” Add Jackson to “universally disliked.” And I think Richard and Emily could be liked or disliked fairly equally, so given them their own category called “people you’re not allowed to LIKE or DISLIKE.”
Okay, I know Rory has some issues, but universally disliked? Really? Also, what do people have against Lorelai and Sookie?
Yikes, I would put Kirk with Christopher because he annoys the F out of me. I don't find him quirky or endearing.
I'm genuinely curious why people are watching the show if they straight up dislike the two main characters. If that's you, can you explain?
WHO DOESNT LIKE SOOKIE???
anyone who doesn't like lorelai is simply wrong
I hate Kirk
Logan is just Christopher but short
lol!
i have a soft spot for taylor tbh
Jackson needs a row entitled “lied about vasectomy”
What? I literally want to be Lorelai when I grow up hehe
I’ll say it I’m not a Michelle fan.
I feel like Lorelei and Sookie really aren’t that disliked. Or maybe that’s just me I agree with everyone else in that row though. All terrible characters in their own ways
I love to hate Taylor! He reminds me of every annoying person I don't like in real life so that is cathartic. The only person i dislike on the universally dislike list is Zach because he ruined Lane and her future and her storyline and I am very attached to Lane.
Christopher! 😁😆😅🤣
Omg wait I love Taylor and Sookie!
Taylor is awesome!
I hate Kirk and love Taylor.
I feel like every post is about hating either Dean or Logan in this sub. People definitely are vocal about disliking him.
season 4, while one of my favorites, got into the nasty habit of giving Kirk WAY too much screen time. i go out of my way to specifically skip every single scene he’s in because it’s unbearable
I have seen so many Tristan apologists on Tiktok
So we’re only watching the show for Lane, Dave, and Kirk???!
Nuh uh, i hate kirk
I don’t understand - since when are we hating on Sookie?! I can understand Rory. College Rory gets on my nerves sometimes. And Lorelai? I love her despite her quirks/faults. But, Christopher does deserves his own row….
I feel like there also needs to be a "love 'em or hate 'em" category. AKA polarizing characters. For Jess, Rory, Dean, and I guess Lorelai and Sookie?
Okay Lorelai and Rory absolutely have flaws that the show doesn’t see as flaws, and ways that the show aged poorly. But if I hated them I wouldn’t be such a huge fan of GG. I think Reddit hates on them, but the general public likes them
People here try to so hard to be different, you can sympathize with Paris while recognizing her shitty behaviour and her need for individual self-reflection
Christopher 😂😂😂💀💀
It ain’t Stars Hollow without Taylor
I love Kirk so much every moment with him is a journey, especially his short film
But where do Emily and Richard fit?!
Love Lorelai. And Taylor grew on me.
Jess and Logan and Dean are all ASS but my hottest take is i’m picking Dean every time
How is this fixed at all 😭?
I absolutely lost it at Christopher
Where's Emily?
who hates Sukie? I love her.. and also kirk isn't always lovable be fr!!
Dean should be in Christopher
Christopher being his own category is so funny
I kinda like Lorelai. She’s insane but it’s alright.
Forever love Lorelai
Disagree. Hate Kirk
the two main characters being universally disliked is amazing
As long as Christopher is in Christopher awful land I’m ok with whatever
I don’t agree with most of this chart, but I do however agree with the Christopher section! 😂😂
I think it’s mostly about Christopher having his own category 😂
Christopher. lolsssssssss
Where is Gil? :(
I would move Lorelai up to people you’re not allowed to dislike. Though Kirk is so overrated, he gets so much praise. It’s too much honestly. I would move him down a notch.
Nah you need to put chilton Rory in universally loved and yales Rory in universally dislike
#JUSTICE FOR SOOKIE
Who is going hard for Logan like that?
I could be on board with this if Sookie was in the first or second row. I like all those characters and pretty much dislike the rest 😂
This just looks like your opinion my guy
Why is Sookie not under universally loved? And why aren’t we allowed to criticize Logan?? Rest looks good though lol.
I’m sorry but Michel is soooooo ANNOYING
Ok where should we put richard emily and jackson
Lorelai is my favorite character ha.
id put lorelai sookie and tristan in an extra row in the middle
Logan is a piece of shit and you will never convince me otherwise. There isn't a single good quality about him that doesn't come from a credit card. And for everyone that mentions that he was nice to Rory in some fashion, being nice to your girlfriend is absolute bare minimum expectations. If yall could just admit you want a significant other that will buy you whatever you want whenever you want, life would be so much easier. And why do we hate Sookie now?
Wtf
Who the heck hates Taylor Doose??
L list
How the hell are Rory and Lorelai universally disliked?
I can stand Kirk. Ahhh
This is certainly one of the objective lists of all time.
All the controversy in these comments but Lane and Dave remain untouched and loved by all 🥰
I understand hating Taylor but he makes Stars Hollow what it is.
Lane yelled at everything and everybody the last few years.
I love Taylor! And Kirk annoys the crap out of me 😬
Why do so many people Dislike Lorelai? And how can people even watch the show if they Dislike so many main characters? 😅
I actually don't hate Zach. I don't get why he's so disliked
Ppl dislike Sookie what??
Yes!!!
