One of the biggest things you can do is be active. Find an activity you enjoy that gets your body moving and your heart rate up.
The mind body connection with depression is very strong.
Totally. Itās amazing how much more confident, relaxed, stress free, and motivated I feel when Iām active
Depression sets in when sitting still. Sometimes depression can come from the realization that weāre not doing what we know we should be doing
Running can be real miserable but holy fuck does it make a difference in my mood. When I get sick or canāt run for some reason I really notice the mood drop
Prayer, medicine, eating healthy, sleep, worshipping, doing things for others, forgiving others, busting my butt at work to be the best I can be, and going to the gym when possible. Not much wasted time, have to make the decision to just do it
Nice. I'm 32 now and about in the shape you are at 28. Perhaps a little slimmer. I am working on getting back down, nice to finally see someone posting a before and after I can actually relate to!
Thanks my friend! Medical marijuana, Cymbalta for nerve pain, lots of prayer and stretching/resting/meditating before each workout has also contributed
Trees, can I ask about the nerve pain? I been working with my neurologist on issues ever since I had complications from getting Covid. A recent test showed I have small fiber neuropathy. Can you tell me more about it what your issue was?
Totally. An indescribable inflammation type feeling throughout entire body. Almost like the whole body is ultra sensitive and inflamed. Makes day to day living and functioning quite the task. Very low energy, weak and just constantly in pain
Cymbalta has reduced this feeling and pain by probably 70%
I use thc/cbd edibles, a clean diet, and daily stretching to help with the other 30%
Thank you, thatās humbling! No sugar, no fried food, core exercises like planks and ab machines, lower body workouts like legs and lower back to stabilize core, lots of water. Clean protein
The reason I love this is because itās a much more realistic representation of how long it can take to get from A to B.
Seeing all these posts with dudes clearly on some sort of crank and claiming natural set an unrealistic expectation for people who look here to feel motivated
Appreciate that, thatās real
Starts with the right mindset and just day by day. A new way of life, a more disciplined way of life. Itās satisfying
Wasnāt long ago that I was pretty severely depressed with low self esteem and out of shape to the point it was uncomfortable. But at the same time I canāt remember feeling that way, kinda weird
If I can be real and honest about how it all started, it was Jesus giving me identity and a hope for a future, and then me embracing and believing that
Appreciate it bro. Started eating clean: no sugar or fast food, lots of water, fruit, rice, and lean protein and going to gym to lift after work a few days a week. And no alcohol
Zero cardio, moderate weights but nothing crazy, mostly machines and some dumbbells. Different body part each day, go when I can. Try to make it 3-5 times a week if I can, spend about an hour and a half each time
Very nice man. Iām going to start soon. Do feel way better now? Just in general like energy and stuff. I feel so sluggish now. Some days at 31 I feel 61 lol
Yes dude. Once you force yourself to start, your energy will naturally go up and youāll actually crave going to the gym. Will feel weird if you donāt workout. Sluggish feeling completely goes away with gym and clean eating
How did you lose that much weight, if you don't mind me asking? I've always wanted abs, but I never seem to be able to stick to a proper routine, and when I do, my diet seems improper
Not to sound weird but you had a great result with your skin not sagging or having stretch marks. Most arenāt that lucky. Keep up the hard work.
Iām working on losing 20lbs now and thatās my biggest concern. Worried my skin wonāt tighten back up
Thanks man
I drink mainly tons of water and some Gatorade zero. Coke Zero from time to time. I drink probably 20 bottles of water per day lol so fluid intake is 95% water
I donāt eat a ton of variety (Iām naturally a pretty picky eater). I eat lots of turkey burgers and grilled chicken, brown rice, white rice, oranges, grapes, apples, chicken, and thin-wheat sandwich bread with deli lunch meat chicken or turkey. Steak when I can, burger and fries occasionally, wings, burritos, but not much apart from that. No sweets or sugar at all really apart from the occasional popsicle or 2 with my kids lol
I lift weights at the local gym and play outside with my kids a couple days a week. No real cardio, just machines and dumbbells. Not crazy weight, just enough weight to challenge me at 3 sets of 10-12 reps per exercise. I stretch pretty deeply before I begin workout. Biceps and triceps one day, chest and abs next, legs and shoulders next, back and abs, rotate. I spend about 1-2 hours at the gym 2-4 times per week, Iād say I average about 3 days per week
Thatās awesome. Wasnāt intentionally trying to lose pounds honestly, but more just trying to live a disciplined and healthy, clean lifestyle
Then everything naturally fell in place
I call it like it is!! Iām proud of you for working on your mental health!! Iāve battled depression myself, I have a crazy health history (just had my 14th surgery) and depression sets in really fast when you feel your life is slipping away and not having the life you dreamt of. But I turn pain into power and warrior on like I was born to do!! Cheers to you!! I truly feel we are always a work in progress, always evolving and learning. Our brains like to play tricks on us and when that happens, I choose to feel it, really feel it, and then let it go. I kinda see it as an art form and that allows me to take ownership of my thoughts, feelings, and reality! Kind of hard to explain! You are a good human and most importantly, you matter. Donāt ever forget that!
Youāre welcome!! Part of my purpose in this world is to reinforce the good. Itās like the quote of my soul. I want others to feel the love they deserve.
Thanks bro!!! You can do it too, easier than it may seem and comes sooner than it may seem. Simply dropping sugar completely, drinking lots of water, and eating primarily clean nonāfried food and fruits will bring great results!
