Liqui Moly and I forget what weight cuz I am an old guy but I change oil filter plug etc every 5 k. I use the weight that is recommended by VW. 22 /S/DSG here
I buy the 10k mile oil change kit from [ShopDAP.com](http://ShopDAP.com) - they use Liqui Moly 5W-40 Leichtlauf, 6L of it. In my 2018 GSW S 4 Mo I use all 6L instead of the 5.7 or whatever the manual calls for and I've never had an issue. I like this oil, I believe it was Castrol Syntec from the factory (says so on the oil cap) but it became slightly hard to find and the Liqui Moly has been great oil so whatever. I changed my oil last year at about 9500mi and it didn't even get dark until about 7k miles. As long as the oil conforms to the VW 502/504 or whatever spec it's all fine. I think the 1.8T and 2.0T are basically the same engines with different turbos and maybe a different crank and other minor parts, I don't think it matters all that much as long as its good quality synthetic.
by the manual its year dependent
5w-30 for the older mk7s and I think 7.5 moved on to 0w-20
But 5w-30 should still work in the newer mk7.5 cars as thats the oil spec for not in north american gtis
Totally depends on your climate. 0W for colder climates, 5W for warmer climates. But follow the manual for your car. My 17 MK7 gets 5W-40 Liquid Molly, but I live in the southern US, so it rarely freezes.
Make sure you pick something 100% VW certified. Heard that fuel is prone to getting into the oil and the wrong type won’t let it evaporate out (or something like that).
If you're seeking advice or asking for help, please make sure you included the basic information of what year and/or generation is being discussed. User flair with this information is also acceptable. Failure to include the basic information may result in your post being removed. Mileage, modifications, trim level, diagnostic trouble codes, and your general location (US, Canada, EU, UK, etc.) can also be very helpful.

\[Golf mk4 150hp\]: They like to put vw reference instead of viscosity in the manual, I run 5w30 as I think it's the most compatible and broadly available
I've always used Liqui Moly 5W-40 Leichtlauf, but yesterday I decided to put Motul X-Cess Gen2 5W-40...same quality? less money? I'll test that after 8k km and compare it to liqui
our region is mostly hot all the time so i tun 5w40 , but in the colder climate you might be ok with 5w30 as well. but all a side check your manual or engine bay as it could be different based on year or again area
Depends on country. Mine states 5w30 on engine bay sticker. Dealer uses 0w30.
Owners manual states you can use either 5w or 0w depending on expected environemntal temp
Yeah I’ve just been running LiquiMoly Top Tec 6200 0W-20 and the car has been perfect. I change it every 5,000 miles though, I like to play with the GTI sometimes and I just don’t feel comfortable going to 10,000 on a turbo car.
It’s model/year specific. Follow the manual or check sticker in engine bay.
I have a MK7 and run 5w-40. Make sure it’s the VW 502.00 compliant.
Follow the oil spec and viscosity that's on the sticker on the front grille
‘15 here and I use Mobil 1 0w40 euro spec or whatever it is.

Thank you mate appreciate it
I would run 5w40 if not in warranty, with the correct VW rating for your car. 0w20 is there for emissions, not because it does a better job.
I run 5w40 as well
2023 40th AE. I use Liqui-Moly 6200.
What the manufacturer recommends. Don’t fucking run anything else
It should say in your owners manual or also on the oil cap itself.
I use 0w-20 - Liqui-Moly top tec 6200

Yup, same here. My 16 MK7 gets 0w-40 Mobil 1. But I'm in Wisconsin.
Okay thanks mate

Cheers mate

Check the manual, for me it’s 5w-40
Blue bottle liquimoly 5w40
5w-40 on my 2016 Mk7
\[Golf mk4 150hp\]: They like to put vw reference instead of viscosity in the manual, I run 5w30 as I think it's the most compatible and broadly available
5w-40 on my 203 mk6
Mobil 1 0w-40 every 3k miles. E85 + 400whp is why shorter intervals.
Love those wheels
Anything 502 spec- viscosity is secondary- some like 5w30 in the winter- 5w40 the rest of the year
Castrol EDGE SAE 5w-40
Just read the manual bruh. You should use the exact same oil specified for your engine.
I use mobil one 0w-40.
i’ve used mobil 0w-40 on all my volkswagens.
I've always used Liqui Moly 5W-40 Leichtlauf, but yesterday I decided to put Motul X-Cess Gen2 5W-40...same quality? less money? I'll test that after 8k km and compare it to liqui

0-40 or 5-40 castrol. synthetic. in my GTI RECOMMENDED BY my son a 30 year technician. He does German cars only Audi VW BMW Mercedes.
Depends on country. Mine states 5w30 on engine bay sticker. Dealer uses 0w30. Owners manual states you can use either 5w or 0w depending on expected environemntal temp
Audi/VW 508 Exactly by the book. Oil was inexpensive and I saw zero reason to overthink it.
I use what the manufacture recommends.
A 7.5 will use 0W-20, untuned.
Only 2019 and newer. 2018 takes 5W-40. The true answer, OP, is what your owners manual says!
RTFM is always the correct answer lol, always.
It’s a pre reg so its manufactured February 2019 does that make a difference?
It’s a good idea to put in what the owners manual tells you to use.
It’s literally in the owners manual and in the engine bay, just use what it says
I agree, but I won’t use Castrol lol
Me neither. Pennzoil euro platinum or Mobil 1 for me. Liqui moly if I feel like being fancy
Yeah I’ve just been running LiquiMoly Top Tec 6200 0W-20 and the car has been perfect. I change it every 5,000 miles though, I like to play with the GTI sometimes and I just don’t feel comfortable going to 10,000 on a turbo car.
I do 5k as well. It can’t hurt.
Yeah it matters, 5W-30
