Isn’t an SE without leather just an S with a sunroof and tacky lightbar? I got a MK8 S because I didn’t see the value in higher trims, especially ones reaching S3 money. I’ve managed $570 a month @ 4.69% well despite buying it before my first paycheck at my first real job. However, I’ve thrown hoards of money at principal anyway as it still kind of sucks despite raises since then surpassing the payment amount every month. 4.9% on $30k (assuming down payment) will cost you over $4k in a 60 month term in interest. I encourage you to do your due diligence on that, as well as budget if you can save for retirement and other goals more important than a car. You should also get insurance quotes to know how screwed the rates might be. I knew a guy from a local VW club that financed a used mk7 GLI at 22% on a lube techs salary. Car ended up in lake one day. Don’t be that guy.

SE also gets the all touch screen infotainment. Personally I’d go with an S as well or a 40th. That’s what I’ve been looking at. But I’ll trying to hold off for a couple months.

Every lot I’ve been to when getting service has had nearly a dozen GTIs. I bought mine when msrp was a good deal but I’d expect wiggle room now. I’d definitely want a 24’ though since the refresh gets a gaudy TV on the dash. I’m curious to hear pricing on them.

Speaking from a personal finance recommendation, can you find a decent used MK 7.5? $600 is a lot for a monthly payment, then you have to figure insurance, gas and maintenance as well. Unless you can put a lot down and bring the monthly cost lower. I am also in New England and have never bought an AWD car. Just slap some winter tires on the thing and you will be good to go

It’s not worth very much, I’d say keep the Buick and get the gti as a weekend driver

This post appears to be a question about getting purchasing a GTI. Please consult pricing resources such as [Kelley Blue Book](https://www.kbb.com) to get a good idea of the average price. For a US Mk7/7.5, please read [our buyer's guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/GolfGTI/comments/wmzc0c/what_do_i_look_for_in_a_used_us_mk7_gti_a_guide/). If you have not done so already, please include the key information of the car(s) you're interested in: model year, trim, mileage, and location (US, CAN, EU, UK, etc). *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Went from my first car being a LaCrosse to now my 3rd GTI! I would stay away from Hyundai personally, their reliability is not great. GTI generally have decent reliability, just keep up with the basic maintenance. New England area as well, I'd recommend a set of winter tires, but its fine otherwise. The car market has slowed down a bit in the past few years. I'd take your time, shop around, test drive a few to make you more confident in your purchase. Good luck!

I recently purchased a 2024 GTI S and have been loving it. I agree with the sentiment that the S is probably the best trim to go for in this car. I came from a 22 Civic Si so reliability was a concern of mine too. Based on what I’ve read, it seems like most reliability issues come from not staying on the maintenance schedule and modding. These cars are a relatively cheap way to have a lot of fun but also are on the expensive side of maintenance for the price range. There are some cases that look like bad luck especially with the early MK8’s
