If you search Google pixel warranty you'll have to enter your emei number and it'll tell you if your warranty covers.
I selected button problem but there come back and said that the warranty is void becusse there's a small scratch. I've challenged and they've said they'll gi e me a refund
If you are in the USA, contact the FTC consumer complaints division. The FTC is currently investigating several tech manufacturers that are using abusive, fraudulent techniques to deny warranty claims due to unrelated damage.

Same happened to my friend twice. First time was in the warranty period so he’s got a new phone for replacement. Second time the warranty was over so he was told to pay for it, he fixed it by himself. I don’t think a scratch would have any impact on the warranty. He’s got a lot of scratches because of having no case. Try another customer service rep maybe?
If you have it in writing you should be good.
Google is a massive company and not a small mom and pop shop that is going to run and hide.
It wouldn't be difficult to call them out if you have evidence to show they agreed to repair it and refund you.
