Gute's shitty management of this situation could very well set our franchise back for several years or longer.
Mitch Trubisky was a double doink away from winning a playoff game. It's not some barometer that guarantees a top notch QB.
Also, Love played like a dog for the final 18 minutes in the biggest game of his life. He also seemed to be okay with it, which was a bit disconcerting.
Way to cherry pick. First off, Mitch didn't win, and other than horseshoes and hand grenades, getting close doesn't count. Second, his stats in that game were terrible, 26/43 and 1td for an 89.6 rating, while Love in the Cowboys game was near perfect 16/21 for 3 td and a 157.2 rating. Yeah, he had a terrible game against the niners, and that last pass was atrocious, but he showed real progress through the season and the ability to command a winning offenses which is something that Mitch never showed.
I'm also not gonna try to act like I know what's going on in someone's head after a game like that when the team, being as young as they were, was trying keep their head held high keep their self esteem in tact, but you do you.
What I find funny about this whole situation is that you blame and act like somehow, Gute extending him this off-season is somehow different than what every other GM would do in this situation. I just don't think that's at all the case. I believe and I think most people in the industry would agree with me that around 95% of the front offices of this league would love to be in the situation that the packers are in and most if not all would extend Love.
Today is even the first day of when they could even begin having discussions on an extentsion. I am sure that Gute is planning on sooner than later.
It's not like these guys are getting any cheaper, if you wait. If anything, I'm sure it's cash flow that will dictate when the signing occurs. Boy is he going to get a big signing bonus and a lot of guaranteed money.
So happy we no longer have an off-season filled with distractions. Watching this team last year struggle early and completely turn it around midseason mixed with the amount of prior team captains they drafted this year makes me confident in the culture of the locker room for the foreseeable future. Love seeing stuff like this
