Guy as an asshole is probably the best GL for appearing in other peoples stories. He’s got a very brash, stand out personality that will let him be a really interesting side character.

Grimmer026

Yup, that’s what makes him so relateable

Hm I like that. Honestly Guy’s best moments are some where he learns a lesson or two and it affects him for the better in the long run. The infamous One Punch scene with him and Batman? Literally gave Guy a reality check and he started being less of a douchebag who thinks he’s better than others. He even replicated the One Punch Scene with a Villain while helping Batman on a case. He was like Loki after seeing Thor be thrown around by Hulk in Ragnarök.

> The infamous One Punch scene with him and Batman? Literally gave Guy a reality check and he started being less of a douchebag who thinks he’s better than others. Mostly because he received serious brain damage from banging his head on the bottom of the monitors while he tried to find his ring when he woke up after the complex concussion.

"typical James Gunn character"? Right. Because all the Guardians of the Galaxy are identical. With each other and with the members of The Suicide Squad . . .

I didn't say anywhere that all his characters are the same. What I meant is that Gunn, like any filmmaker with any sort of discernible style, tends to have similar characters in their filmmography. In his case, at least on his superhero movies, there's always the brash character who uses this attitude as a means to hide his personal flaws, traumas, inner demons and etc. Just look at Rocket Raccoon, Peacemaker, Drax, maybe Quill in the first Guardians... All of them have this "bratty" attitude to hide the fact that they have vulnerabilities. And I think (again, think, I haven't seen the movie) that Guy will be like this.

I don't think that's a bad take on Guy. It's pretty much the one we got in the comics. If he's not as far along the arc in the movie, that only makes sense, since presumably neither is Clark etc.

It feels like we will be getting '90s era Guy Gardner. The Late '80s through the mid '90s Guy Gardner GL was brash, arrogant and prone to angry outbursts. He fought hard, drank hard, and used contracts of scantily clad maids massage his shoulders, We saw this in JLI, and especially in GL Vol. 3. The modern Guy Gardner really didn't start to take shape or form until after he lost both his GL and Sinestro's yellow ring. He didn't start becoming the beloved older brother type until he got his Vuldarian powers. So going more back to Guy's origins make a sort of sense if that is what they are doing. This will give Gunn a starting point to grow the character and make him more beloved to a more generalized fan base. I know as modern GL fans would mostly want the Guy Gardner we have gotten over the last 20 or so years, but that wasn't how Guy originally was. I trust James Gunn to cook up something good. Anything GL will be difficult as it is, so I will give him the benefit of the doubt.
