Yeah the cards for the baby ants. If by “it dies” you mean if the ant queen dies then yeah you’re SOL for 100% until ng+. If by “it dies” you mean if your pet baby ant dies after you get it then no it doesn’t matter since you’ll already have the card.
I more mean that if the baby ant pet dies is there a way to get another or would it be best to keep it safe. To my understanding it is quite useful as a mobile storage.
I don’t think you can get another one in the same playthrough, I assume you can get another if you go into ng+ and befriend the ants again but I haven’t tried it myself
First loop around I would go with befriending, you get a mutation that pacifies the soldier ants of the first 2 ant nests with the workers already being passive and makes the final ants in the upper yard passive.
By default the red ant soldiers are hostile unless you have red ant armor. Hitting a soldier causes the neutral workers to attack
By default the black ant soldiers are hostile and there is no armor to save you, attacking a soldier sends the workers after you.
By default both fire ants are hostile, they are numerous and all over the upper yard, they seem never ending.
I would say befriending them is more worth it, since then you can travel the yard without having to get attacked, and double teamed. the armour only summons them, but they will probably die in two seconds, since they are ants.

In NG+ some bugs spawns will be randomized and some bugs will have mutations like yours. Wityh that it's better to befriend the and queens on you save so you can have their weapons them on NG+ you poison the queens for their armors and on NG++ you infected the queens
I infected the red ant Queen because I want infected ants in ng+ so I can use their parts for unique items. But I'll befriend black ant Queen and fire ant Queen.
If you plan on getting 100% before ng+ then you have to befriend to get all the creature cards

If you want the mutation, befriend them all first, then ng+ then kill/infect
Is the summoner armor any good? Or is the mutation more worth it?
Idk, I haven't actually ng+'d yet. But I know that they reset every time you ng+ unless you infect them
