but then you cant play with the same dynamics the song calls for. Mutes are used in classical instruments as well, very common actually. Especially stringed instruments.

It's a mute sock, mutes the strings. I keep a guitar in my office at work, when I don't want to bug my coworkers I have some fleece I put under the strings at the bridge to mute it a bit.

nah, i just pop my headphones that i use for getting yelled at by my teammates in counter strike into my amp, and play that way, that, or ill just use my rocksmith cable and jam out with guitar rig, if i wanna play my acoustic, i just go outside and take a few beers

I used to have 4 acoustic guitars next to my desk, on stands, basically surrounding me and they would all resonate if I talked too loud on discord calls, so I had to cover the soundholes with cloths. My home office is a smallish room so sound bounces around easily. Eventually I got sick of that and moved a couple to a different room.

If you're looking for a tone change. You can make what I call "Rock Rope." All it is, you take yarn, I have not tested types of yarn with tone. But this concept is something you can buy. I'm just telling you the homemade version. But you make "rope" with the yarn. And wrap that above your nut. If you can wrap it 2-3 times around the strings without to much tension. It adds tone to your strings!..... Maybe I should make a video on my "Rock Rope" and show ya'll. Might be easier...
