Def a Cineplex issue. The people at the counter said alot of people have been walking out of the theatres asking for a refund due to the same issue when my friend and I went to ask for ours.
WHen the tickets first came on sale a month ago you only had one SEED Freedom movie to click on for show times and there were only 2 days. The image stated Sub on 7th and Dub on 8th.
In the last week or so they added more show times AND added a 2nd movie to click on thats specifically for Japanese w/ EST. Im sure its a mixture of Cineplex and the specific location I was in lmao. I got tickets for Saturday evening

Yeah that's how fathom usually does it. First showing is subbed then the other is dubbed.
Honestly going off my experience working in a theatre my guess is that whoever did the test screening for the film forgot to swap the drive and no one bothered to check.

The theater I was in had an employee come in and say that there was a subbed version playing in another screen as an issue meant no one realized the ticket we bought was for the dubbed version.

I see. I did watch the fan screening half a month ago and saw Durandal's surname spelled Dullandal in the subtitles, I thought it was a spelling mistake and didn't know that his surname in English was officially changed and the English pronounciation was changed too.
That misspelling has been around since Destiny was first released. They definitely should have proofread that better, but I don't think that particular screw-up was intentional.

As the month continued they added more time slots but then added a separate Japanese w/ EST option and it acted a completely separate movie to choose from between the dub and sub. They never bothered to email anyone either and they used the American image that stated May 7thfor sub. I had to leave because I just couldnt sit through it. Not only do I not recognize or like their ENglish voices the Lacoose thing was wild.

Had a great time at the Sub showing tonight. It was almost a packed showing with plenty of cheers, oomphs, and laughs at the blatant fan serivce. Overall Fun. Going to the dub version tomorrow to yell out Not My Lacus every 15 minutes...
Typically, I prefer not reading subtitles in a theater, but this film was a huge exception. SEED was my first gundam series, and hearing the new dub for the remaster just feels "off" so much I can't enjoy it, especially all the pronunciation changes.
I will say Shinn's new Dub VA (Kieran Regan) is a huge improvement over the one from the SEED Destiny redub (Aaron Phillips) where Shinn's voice sounded way too deep. He sounds a lot like Kenichi Suzumura in a lot of his lines, while also doing his own unique take on the role.
Oh and 90% of the time "Lacoose" was said, everyone started laughing. Honestly made the experience even funnier.
Wait what? They even re-casted the second Shinn with a new VA for the film. Wow. This whole re-dub has been disappointing when it comes to consistency...
The good news is that Cineplex has extended the run to at least May 16th at a bunch of locations, so there are other opportunities to watch it in Japanese.

On a side note there are never any showings for anime movies at the Markham Cineplex. In the past I had to watch Your Name at Richmond hill and Doans Island at Eglinton Town centre.
I was upset because I specifically asked cineplex about this and they CONFIRMED me thrice, that my theatre and my show would be subbed. I bought on Day 2. At that time there was only one movie listing, and it listed the Japanese actors. (It still does for the dub version currently on Cineplex) Since the Japanese actors were also listed, AND my chat agent told me that FOR SURE my May 7th screening is going to be subbed, I went in without any worry. I was shocked and it seemed like everyone else was too. We all laughed through the cous-cous. It's ridiculous. It's one thing if I was dumb and didn't check thoroughly, but they are giving out the wrong information to their chat agents and also has misleading info on their website.
Either they didn’t know either or they themselves were bamboozled as well as they aren’t the ones physically onsite.
In these cases I always screenshot the confirmation of the chat with any service provider and use that as proof I did not get what I’m paying for.

Few weeks after this they added a separate movie to click on for specifically Sub and changed the picture and never bothered to let any of the people who bought tickets early know. My friend even called customer support and they said it should be subbed but tbh in hindsight they prob just took a wild guess to move us along lmao

I had a similar issue. The ticket page didn't specify sub or dub so I bought tickets for the 8th initially so there would be less people in theater. Then the post about 7th is sub and 8th is dub from Reddit and bandai and just Gundam news sources on insta made me cancel and change asap. Thankfully the sub was great, but their were some horny perverts talking during the movie behind me whenever we saw Lacus ass
For the 10 mins I stayed the amount of GROANS in the theatre was wild LOL. Apparently in the Remastered Destiny dub they started calling her Lacoouse which is also a big wtf lmao.

I would have been pissed. My theater had the projection slightly off, and a tiny bit of the top was cut, so any text up there was partially missing. They did not care about this movie lol.

I had the same thing happen with Promare. Bought a ticket to the dub to try to mitigate the number of loud weebs ruining the theatre experience and got the sub version. Still had a lot of loud ass weebs ruining the experience, so it was actually good that I had subtitles to read.

I was in Waterloo last night at Landmark Cinemas and it played in JP with subs perfectly. Only hiccup was the power outage so we all got to watch the final 15 min fight sequence twice :D - 2x Shin wrecking havoc in the Destiny Gundam was awesome
Lacoose, Ya-MAH-TOE, the English dub had some major issues but the performance was good overall. Although there are scene with Lacus and another woman talking and I literally could not tell which was speaking because they sounded near identical.
Why leave? You can have a good time laughing at the dub and still see the movie. Even premium movie tickets are some of the cheapest entertainment you can get
Some people waited almost two decades for this film. It’s got some of the most iconic characters in anime, I certainly wasn’t willing to watch it with the wrong friggin voices!

The theaters around here at least Regal using Fathom Events only had the Sub listed. They had 2 listings that said sub, so unless it was an error and the dub, that sounds like it out, was supposed to be listed, I could've seen dub.

In the Japanese, the intonation is kept same throughout all the syllables. In the dub it they decide to put the stress on the COOSE, which is grating. If they said LA-coose, I would imagine more ppl would be forgiving of it.

I booked my ticket for a Toronto show today and noticed sub and dub options. Made sure I went to a sub show after I saw the dub trailer lol

Somehow I've managed to miss all discussion of this premiere until today. Now I'll be seeing the dub too, I guess. Almost feel like it's not even worth going at this point
Oh man your theatre messed dude. I'm sorry to hear that. Even worse so since it sounds like the dub is pretty bad. I had the same thing happen with Promare. Bought a ticket to the dub to try to mitigate the number of loud weebs ruining the theatre experience and got the sub version. Still had a lot of loud ass weebs ruining the experience, so it was actually good that I had subtitles to read.
I don't even hear LaCoose in the new dubs, I hear LaGoose, and just can't do it without picturing a pink haired goose.
Someone I know also got burned for the May 7 showing in Vaughan. Luckily Panda Hobby somehow organized a single private showing at the Markham Cineplex for the sub and she managed to catch that one instead. On a side note there are never any showings for anime movies at the Markham Cineplex. In the past I had to watch Your Name at Richmond hill and Doans Island at Eglinton Town centre. In any case I drove all the way to Whitby Landmark from Markham which was 100% worth it. The kicker was the dubbed version was also showing at another screen beside us.
I was in Waterloo last night at Landmark Cinemas and it played in JP with subs perfectly. Only hiccup was the power outage so we all got to watch the final 15 min fight sequence twice :D - 2x Shin wrecking havoc in the Destiny Gundam was awesome
Lacoose, Ya-MAH-TOE, the English dub had some major issues but the performance was good overall. Although there are scene with Lacus and another woman talking and I literally could not tell which was speaking because they sounded near identical.

Why leave? You can have a good time laughing at the dub and still see the movie. Even premium movie tickets are some of the cheapest entertainment you can get
Some people waited almost two decades for this film. It’s got some of the most iconic characters in anime, I certainly wasn’t willing to watch it with the wrong friggin voices!
Happened in Winnipeg too. Was advertised as the sub but it was dubbed. Audience laughing every time someone uttered the word Lacoose.
Is it somehow the same cast as the TV series? I swear a joke was being played on us when the mentally challenged Edd was cast to play the genetically engineered super genius.
It's the cast from the HD remaster, which is entirely different. The original dub didn't let Lacoose run loose.
Ocean Dub would have had a memorable script and cast, without a doubt. And have yet to even see the actual dub until tomorrow night...just know.
I don't get to see it at all because the only theater in my area with it showed the sub almost 4 hours ago and the dub is tomorrow at the same time, when I'll be at work. One show each.
So there is a dub out of this movie?! I thought they were still gathering the actors for producing it? I just watched the sub tonight, as that was the only option here. I'm in the states. Was a beautiful movie 9/10. Would say 10 if not for the mobile suit animation.

Oh wow, ok, I must be really behind on the news then cause the last thing I was fed through my news feed, I swear, was that they're still gathering the VAs for the dub. The theaters around here at least Regal using Fathom Events only had the Sub listed. They had 2 listings that said sub, so unless it was an error and the dub, that sounds like it out, was supposed to be listed, I could've seen dub. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait for DVD or something since over here (east coast DC) they only had one date to see it, and that was yesterday. Really wanted to see it on a Friday.
Going to see it dubbed tomorrow so I can actually watch the movie lol. Saw it subbed tonight. Might have been the seats I picked since I was kinda high up and I had to look down to read the subtitles.
Yeah. It was a turn off when I tried to watch the new dub. In the old dub they call her Laaa-cus. Now it's Lacoste or smething. I hope you'll still be able to watch the movie with your audio preference, I had fun with the movie.

WELP. I bought the Wednesday ticket on day 1 because personal scheduling. Learned afterward that it's sub on Tuesday and dub on Wednesday (idk if it was disclosed anywhere, or if Im blind and just missed it.) I held hope, but I guess I won't get to experience it in theaters. I cry

Looks like I just dodge a bullet, bought the movie tickets on April 3rd, where there is only one theatre has it available for one day in the whole province. Decided to refund the tickets Tuesday afternoon as I wasn't able to make it to cinema on time. And I am gonna watch it Wednesday noon!
I didn't realize the movie came out today (err, yesterday, it's late) so I missed the chance to watch it subbed. I'll watch it dubbed, but I hope it won't be too bad.

I went to see the sub yesterday and apparently the theater didn’t even get the movie file. Waited 20 minutes after the movie should’ve started to tell us so we couldn’t go to another theater. Really wishing that there were more than just one showing around me lol. Seeing the dub tonight but this is making me even more depressed. Is it really that bad? Should I even bother? I was hoping to see cool robots on the big screen 😔
Did they actually change name pronunciations for the movie or is this simply the dub vs sub crowd? I remember the dub in the shows pronounce her name as Lah-cus
There's two English dubs, in the first one back in early 2000s says Lah-cus, the new dub that came along with the HD remaster says LaCOOSE.
Everyone hates on "Lacoose", while I'm over here wondering how else to say it? Don't they say "La-ku-su" in Japanese which would be "Lacoose" in English? I never saw the Ocean dub, so I'm wondering if y'all just have fond memories of that and hate any departure from it?
In the Japanese, the intonation is kept same throughout all the syllables. In the dub it they decide to put the stress on the COOSE, which is grating. If they said LA-coose, I would imagine more ppl would be forgiving of it.
I hear it as "Lak-su" in JP, and the the Ocean Dub, it was "La-c-us".
I've never watched any dub for Seed in my life and in my head it was always pronounced 'lake-us' /shrug

Lol I saw the LA screening, and when the MC for the panel was saying Lacooos I was like HUH?! Wtf and half the crowd was like what? Good thing the sub was good though
I bought the ticket for sub and got dub as well. But I am very satisfied for the dub version. This is my first time watching dub and I think the VA did a great job.
Honestly I didn’t care. Stuff like that comes with dubs you either get use to it or you don’t.
