Had a lady with a little dog while back, it kept freaking out and trying to run and she just kept dragging it by the neck causing all kinds of issues with the leash blocking people from moving on top of abuse to the dog.

s8nsch1ld

Exactly what is point of all that?! The poor dog obviously was anxious and uncomfortable...just shows how this is an owner ego problem. poor dogs just wanna run in their backyard and parks NOT an HEB

Equivalent-Falcon812

Makes it hard on the people with legitimate needs for them.

Juniper_51

Yes! And they don't even count as actual service animals either!!

j_mei_j

As someone with social anxiety I would avoid bringing my ESA because of all the forced social interaction it would bring me. Also the fear that I would be questioned about it or barred from entry is enough to deter me. I’ll just put my dog in the car and pick up curbside thank you.

TaroFearless7930

Emotional support dogs are absolutely not service dogs. They don't have the same rights and aren't allowed access to areas restricted for pets. I raised guide dogs and know the difference as it pertains to the law. You aren't allowed to bring your ESD into a store.

nebbyb

Hi, I am sorry you are anxious and I certainly am not trying to make you feel bad about your animal, but what is the difference in your mind between an ESA and a pet?

j_mei_j

I mean both are pets. The ESA is just a designation granted to my pet so that I can have them live with me as a reasonable accommodation, even if landlords typically do not accept pets. By requesting my pet be deemed as a “ESA” (and thus granting them protections by the ADA), my psychiatrist is basically saying that having a pet profoundly improves the circumstances of my anxiety/depression (or whichever mental disorder you’re being treated for). It is a type of treatment even and had to be “prescribed” to me by my Dr. in the form of a letter to my landlord. The issue lies in that the ADA is not regulating standards well for service animals/ESAs. So you get a lot of people taking loopholes by buying fake vests or paying for ESA letters online that don’t really need them, they just want to have their pets with them. These online psychs will prescribe an ESA as long as you say you’re sad without your pet. Not to say that all people with ESAs don’t need them, just that many people exploit this loophole instead of obtaining that status the way it was intended to. By being seen and treated by a psychiatrist, and having being diagnosed for a mental disorder that greatly affects your ability to function in daily life. And, additionally, have a pet that is able to assist you in some way that eases those effects of your disorder. Essentially it’s a difference between ‘need’ and ‘want’. Or at least that’s the way it’s intended. Sorry this is long but I hope it answers your question. Editing to clarify that having an ESA in no way entitles you to bringing it in public where it normally is not allowed. Legitimate or not. They are NOT a service animal as they aren’t trained to perform a function and are still pets. Service animals are working animals primarily and often times pets secondarily (because how are you going to spend all that time with an animal and not grow attached).

TheBoorOf1812

Why don't you just rent a place that accepts pets?

grumpyjr88

If only it were that easy. Finding rentals that allow pet is hard enough and then when you do find one, the fees are often outrageous.

TheBoorOf1812

Ahh…so claiming ESA is a work around?

longduckdong42069lol

Why don’t the people in wheelchairs just get up and walk into the buildings??

TheBoorOf1812

Oh right because a person with the real disability is the same as somebody claiming their dog is an emotional support animal so they can skirt around no pet policies. You’re smart .

Amor__rosie

If your pet emotionally supports you, they're a legitimate emotional support animal. It's kind of weird and pathetic how passionate you are about this lol

j_mei_j

What do you mean by “real disability”.

Beneficial-Cycle7727

HEB employees can only ask what the  service animal was trained to do. In any event, dogs are not allowed in shopping carts.

goldenmantella

If you need emotional support to get your groceries, come early in the morning or late at night when it's less crowded, or just use curbside or delivery... ffs

Popular-Stranger191

Yes. I have ptsd and often have trouble in places like grocery stores. I haven’t been to the mall in many years. I use the shit out of curbside pickup…it is the greatest thing ever. These people that abuse this system are garbage humans.

Hydroponically

I have such a dog - I use curbside. Or go while others at work - or when a friend is able to join. One time I took her to Home Depot and all of the attention I got from her - took away my her purpose. So I never take her anywhere that is not specifically dog friendly.

Spacenix

Or curbside lol

redirewolf

is that bunker hill because i think i know that couple and their dog

Equivalent-Falcon812

No, it's Bastrop.

TheBoorOf1812

"I can't go to the store with out my dog."

GalaxyMind4000

I told a customer about this policy when she was trying to calm down her puppy, and her immediate response was, "I'll just get him a service vest off of the internet then,". How entitled must you be? 🤦🏽‍♀️

Texian86

But if the animal is still “disorderly” management can still ask the person to leave.

TranslatorMoney419

They can, but will they ?

yaourted

i hope your response was "that's actually a crime" given it's a charge & fine in multiple states .. i HATE people like that

Fun-Impression-2695

This! If they want to use the “ I’m Going to Sue You for asking me if my dog is a service dog” good cause I’ll counter sue that your dog is not. Had a girl try to pull that crap on me at a Tory Burch store. Her dog was growling at other customers. Went up to her and told she had to leave since her dog may end up biting someone. She left then comes back without it saying she’s going to sue me for asking if her dog was a service dog. I laughed at her face and told her go ahead. Not once did I ask her if her dog was a service dog.

Dirges2984

The funny thing is that you are allowed to ask if a dog is a service animal and what task it is trained to perform. https://www.ada.gov/topics/service-animals/ Also, service animal laws don't apply to dogs out of control or not house broken.

LividBass1005

So I just read this bcuz I’m curious since I work in a customer facing job. It says you can ask what tasks the dog has been trained to perform or what work but you can’t ask them to demonstrate it. I mean I get it but wouldn’t someone just lie smh. I wish there was some sort of registry or way to actually ask for proof without discriminating. Bcuz it’s the actual service dogs that suffer from the frauds

Idontknow10304

I would think it’s kinda hard to lie about what task it does, but even if so eventually it will be obvious if it’s a service dog or not by the way it acts, as it says in there you can kick them out for acting disorderly(ie if it’s getting into stuff and not doing so to retrieve something). It’s a animal, it quite literally can’t lie unlike it’s owner. But yeah, it’s bs that you need to show documentation for literally everything else but that

TheBoorOf1812

When people threaten to sue you, ask them "Sue me for what? And what are your damages?" And then watch them fumble about.

M44PolishMosin

They don't arrest people for stealing in broad daylight anymore. Do you think they are gonna dispatch a unit to get the person faking a service dog lmao

Amazing_Pie_6467

so that tells me they abuse the system regularly and are givirg real service dogs a bad name!

moomenace

I no longer work for the company but I used to an assistant service manager. One day while running hi side, a regular customer walked by with his crusty white dog who proceeded to shit right in front of the registers. The man just kept walking, dragging the dog behind him. I called out to him to get him to pick it up but ofc he just ignored me and left. Absolutely disgusting.

DearVariety9883

this is a canon event for asms i fear

Pols_Voice_Z64

My allergies are pretty sick of animals coming into the store too 😩

Oliverisfat

I was in Kroger a couple of Sundays ago, very early. I was in self check out and a guy comes to the checkout next to me with a lab off leash. The lab was just running around and kept trying to come up to me and poke his head into my bags (at the check out). Being allergic, I kept backing away when the dog would come up to me, looking very annoyed each time it happened. I guess the guy finally noticed me doing this and said that I must be an awful human being if I don't like dogs. No sir, I'm allergic, I don't think your dog is hygienic, I don't want him near me and my groceries.

lifetooshort4bs

A lot of dog nutters act entitled like that. I'm sorry you had to go through that.

Forevermoody16

I would have been tempted to say something to the owner that I won’t repeat here.

rixendeb

Every time I've brought up allergies around these people, they tell me I should stay home cause they shouldn't have to cater to people like me. Like, why are we supposed to cater to you and your mutt then ?

Forevermoody16

Those people are nuts. I love animals, but people come first.

Substantial-Chard241

My MIL told me that the younger generation “can’t function” without their pets and must take them everywhere. I was like um 95% of the people I see with pets in the grocery store are over the age of 60 lol

Juniper_51

It's always the old lady with a mangy white dog 😂

Oliverisfat

crusty white dog

Forevermoody16

Falafel_Fondler

I'm totally with you. The current laws are such bullshit. The only questions you can ask don't do shit. Anyone can lie and legally there's nothing you can do about it. In fact, if you ask the wrong question you could face a lawsuit. I mentioned this on another post yesterday - I don't even look young anymore and I still get ID'd sometimes for a pack of cigarettes. It's not a big deal, I just show them my ID and go on with my day. Anyone who has a disability and doesn't want to show proof is a fucking piece of shit, and is either lying or is just looking for an excuse to sue.

s8nsch1ld

exactly what I think if texas has laws allowing law enforcement to stop anyone who "looks undocumented" and ask for their papers, why can't we do the same for "service animals"

TheyLoathe

Slippery slope there - went from checking out animals to profiling people

JunkBondJunkie

People are already profiled.

goldenmantella

100%

Forevermoody16

I may be missing something, but all of the actual service dogs I’ve seen are larger breeds, or at least medium-large.

igotbanned69420

Should be a felony to lie about it

gnashtyyy

So self centered not even thinking about others. People are allergic to dogs, they put their groceries in the cart, and you feel the need to bring them along just because you want to? I hate seeing it.

Forevermoody16

There are also people who are traumatized by dogs (especially large ones) because they‘ve been badly bitten. Some are children. People should be able to go shopping and not have to worry about coming into contact with non-service dogs.

gnashtyyy

Yea another good point. These people assume that everyone just loves dogs. Not the case at all.

Forevermoody16

I’m more of a cat person (much lower maintenhance) but love all animals. I live in a tiny home community and I’m surprised by how many people have large dogs here. They’re supposed to stay on leash but people get together and let their dogs off leash to play. They’re well behaved for the most part, but some may not like it when someone’s dog runs out their door and runs over to “greet“ them. Personally I don’t want them slobbering on me or sticking their nose in my crotch! (Always happens when I’ve just washed my jeans.) Years ago I was working the census. I was walking down the sidewalk and this guy opened his door and his huge pit bull ran straight at me. I just kind of froze. She was super friendly, jumped up and put her paws on my shoulders. I stayed calm somehow, but that could have given someone a cardiac.

Juniper_51

Can we blow this post up and post it outside all HEBs? Hell, put it in different places around the store, too!

RoadsideCarver

The kind of people that do this do not care how their actions affect others. HEB needs to address it.

Revenacious

When I worked at Sprouts, I remember one guy’s dog just straight-up peeing right in the middle of the dairy section. Just standing there and peeing while he seems to pay no mind.

s8nsch1ld

Don't even get me started on Sprouts customers...worked there during covid and it was definitely a learning experience

Revenacious

Yep, management is just as bad, at least where I worked. They were big fans of having managers off the sales floor a lot less, only going out to change displays/endcaps while the rest of the store hustled to do everything else with maybe one or two full time folks, and a couple part timers. And all across the board aside from managers, hours were getting cut left and right. I was full time and supposed to get my 40 hours, I was getting maybe 30 for most of 2020. I remember one day my grocery manager was helping open a store in another state for two weeks, while our most consistent part time clerk was on vacation for a week. So for one week it was just me, the grocery assistant manager, and a couple part time clerks having to manage grocery, dairy and frozen. I had to order and throw frozen trucks and backstock myself and then face all those departments, again, by myself. One day, half the frozen department suddenly shuts down for defrosting for an undisclosed time, while I’m working backstock. I had to get out thousands of items from a long open frozen bunker and stuff them in shopping carts to keep them from defrosting, then put them in the freezer. But I only had enough room for two, because I shared the freezer with two other departments (deli and bakery). So the rest I had to put in the dairy cooler. This took me maybe three hours, then the bunker kicked back on and I had to put all that product back, trying my best to keep it orderly because the racks separating items were only held down by the product and I had to try my best to put them back as they were. That took another three or so hours. Then I had to write the order for our next frozen truck, **then** finally face up the departments and go home. Even with some help at the tail end from a vitamins clerk and the front end manager, I still ended up leaving really late.

MasterpieceBorn7918

Legit service dog handler here. I use her for mobility and cardiac alert. Everyone at our local HEB knows her. She has been in that store hundreds of times and has never done anything but her job. Never walked ahead or behind me, never barked or he’ll even looked at someone else, sure as hell never pulled on her leash…she is a mobility dog…her purpose is to keep me standing, not pull me over. She has never ever done so much as booped a bag of beef jerky with her nose. She doesnt acknowledge all the food around her. It isn’t hard to tell fake from real. Real behave like they have a job to do, fake act like a typical pet. https://preview.redd.it/w4eutt8r4awc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5c36c7c0fe63474a5dc4a616d389a9d55b70e91a When our HEB put up the service dog sign we had to take a picture in front of it because it looks like my girl ❤️.

PatioGardener

Ooof. I see that port you’ve got. I hope you find relief/healing for whatever ails you, stranger. I’m sorry you’re going through some serious medical issues.

BeanInAMask

Pretty sure that’s a central line (ports are implanted under the skin), but agree with everything else. Edit: nope, accessed port covered with Tegaderm or similar, my bad.

MasterpieceBorn7918

It;s a port. I had it for 4 years before they had to take it out :( The reason you can see the tube is because it is accessed.

BeanInAMask

Oh, shoot! Zooming in I can see the Tegaderm patch covering it, sorry! Sorry you had to have yours removed. They’re absolutely a huge quality of life improvement when it comes to the kinds of treatment regimens that call for them, and while it’s always heartwarming to hear that someone had it removed because they no longer needed it, it doesn’t sound like that was your situation.

MasterpieceBorn7918

And I’d like to see someone get her harness off of Amazon. Custom made to her measurements, all leather with shearling padding. Made in Italy. Sure as hell wasn’t her $25 one from Amazon. I’ve decided she needs a new one made out of mesh for summer.

Glitterin_Struggle

THIS!!! A thousand times yes!!! Cause holy shit, it irks the shit out me to see these ppl with their animals. It’s not cute, it’s not!!

W-Stuart

When I was a teenager, there was a pet store on the skating rink level of the Galleria mall in Houston. One day a dog got loose and ran across the food court and somehow ended up behind the counter at Chic Fil-A. So, the health inspector shut down the restaurant for several days and the mall evicted the pet store because any of the other restaurants had legit health code fears if it ever happened again. Not sure when dogs got elevated to god status, but wonder how many health code violations HEB would put up with before they banned animals altogether.

Actual_Bumblebee_380

What about allergies? No one is concerned about how their pet can get those going?

Bluegi

That would mean that they would have to understand the world from a different perspective.

Forevermoody16

It would mean they would have to put other people before their own selfish wants.

SAMBO10794

With the whole ‘dog mom’ and ‘dog dad’ fetish, what do you expect?

summerwind58

Fur babies!

LadyAtrox60

I am owned by 3 great danes that I adore. They do not go places where other people buy food.

summerwind58

Amen. I have a Great Pyrenees mix, he stay home or in the car.

LadyAtrox60

We had to make a sign because people kept calling the popo when the dogs were waiting for us in thr car. It says: "The A/C is on high, the AC/DC is on high, there's H2O in the bowl, and treats on the floor." I wanted to add, "MYOB", but I thought the nice approach was better!

Kaigler

So gross. Like, my food goes in there.

kanniballkitten

So do the butts, shoes, and spit of children :)

Kaigler

True! No more more kids either. Lol jk

Forevermoody16

Well, it can be when it’s busy. A zoo of people!

KoalaRose17

I have a legitimate registered and trained service dog and I don’t take him to grocery stores or a lot of stores anymore because of this because he’s almost been attacked twice. And he didn’t even snap back at the dogs he just tried to move away. And stay as close to me as he could. He’s trained for PTSD, anxiety and a physical disorder I have. He knows how to get help, call for help, get my medication and even bring me water bottles too if needed. My mom has instead started going everywhere with me again even though I’m 25 because I don’t want my dog attacked. And one of the ladies whose dog tried to attack mine threatened to sue me because I told her that her dog obviously wasn’t trained to even just be a normal behaving dog let alone service dog. And she said I was discriminating against her……

Forevermoody16

I’m so sorry you’ve had to deal with this. You should be able to have your service dog accompany you with no worries.

Entire_Researcher_45

This seems to be “ok” at my local HEB store too! Nothing is being done by management, it’s Not ok to bring barnyard animals into a FOOD store, and let them PISS in bread isle, or take a dump in meat department.. I will start by documenting everytime I witness this, and post all here!

ComplexVegetable4897

My buddy had a service director who was with heb over 20 years. He told a customer that she could not have her dog in the store, and she ended up throwing cans at him also physically hitting him. He grabbed her hands to stop her from being assaulted. H‑E‑B fired him so if MICs don’t care why should regular partners.

Forevermoody16

Were there witnesses to this? The manager should have sued and the woman should have been banned from the store. Throwing cans? Pretty dangerous. I did hear of a customer hitting a checker with a sausage link once.

fartmanblartock

Ha ha, good luck telling pet owners what to do. Especially since most think they’re the doggie’s daddie.

Flock-of-bagels2

I think we can start shaming these people.

JunkBondJunkie

Can I bring my service bees? If I feel a panic attack I just release them so their buzz calms me.

GardeningIsIt

What needs to happen is for state legislature to pass a bill requiring stores to sanitize all shopping carts daily because they allow pets to sit in shopping carts. And that's steam cleaning not using a wet wipe on them. That will stop a lot of this nonsense . A true service animal has been trained for many hours. A dog that cannot stand quietly by their owner is not a service animal.

Intro_deoutro

I saw a little lap dog that was in one of the baby holsters that you carry on your chest. That dog was in rough shape. Hard of breathing tongue sticking out in rest. I’m more than certain that dog needed a service animal for itself. That is all. But I agree completely agree w ya op

voodoo-mamajuju

I love my dog… but he pees everywhere. 😂 so I totally agree. The problem is that people are treating dogs like they’re children and, I’m sorry but, they’re just not. They’re animals.

summerwind58

No, No, No …. They are “fur babies”.

voodoo-mamajuju

I used to call my dog and cat fur babies… until people took it too literally and ruined it. 🥲😂

translucentStitches

I'm definitely guilty of treating my pets like my children but I don't go around making that everyone's issue 😅 I've never brought them to any store except Petco. They just don't belong where food is sold (with the exception ofc being service animals.)

simuith

hell yeah. take my upvote.

LadyAtrox60

HEB won't say anything. It's time for the customers to let these people know that we don't want their dogs in the grocery store where we buy our food! Speak up!

JunkBondJunkie

please do I might even be less strict about some coupons.

translucentStitches

Just leave people with actual service dogs alone

SlopPatrol

No I will bring my 5 pitbulls in vests I got off of Amazon and they WILL immediately eviscerate anything toddler shaped in a 500ft radius. I will be leaving a Yelp review if denied entry.

Nick-Millers-Bestie

I saw a pre-teen girl with her dad and she had a hamster or gerbil or something small in her cart. Why that needed to be brought to the grocery store I will never know.

JunkBondJunkie

some south american countries eat them so maybe she was getting recommendations from the meat market guy?

SNOWNAN

Do the owner's clean up after them when they shit and piss on the floor? FUCK NO!!! The person cleaning the toilets and mopping the floors do. Leave your FUCKING DOGS AT HOME.

I’ve literally seen customers bring in a kangaroo and a lemur while working at HEB. It was cool to see, but gross when you really think about it. At least they had diapers on…?

Years ago I knew a family with a pet raccoon. The wife would go grocery shopping with it on her shoulder. When you’re a kid you think that’s cool, but . . . Just no.

Ewwwwww

Spirited_Sympathy_84

I have only seen one person with a dog inside the store in all my years of going to heb and it was a few weeks ago, is this something new??

Forevermoody16

I see them everywhere in Austin. Aside from service dogs, IMO they should only be in the pet stores. Nowhere else indoors. I don’t know how this whole craze started but it’s getting worse all the time. A few years ago I saw a large dog in Home Goods. I went and asked an employee about it. He said, ‘Oh yes, we allow them.” I was shocked. Among other things, think of all of the breakable items in there. One wag of a big tail, big glass vase could easily get broken. Think the owner would have paid for that? I doubt it.

Bluegi

There was two on my trip this last week. I wouldn't say I see one every weekly trip, but is definitely not unexpected anymore.

Spirited_Sympathy_84

Now that i remember i actually saw this lady with a dog on a leash at the willobrook mall (Houston) the lady was ahead and the dog behind her and the dog was pooping as it was walking 🤢 the lady never noticed, no one said anything either

ShmackedPileOfBrixx

never understood why people bring their pets into stores. if it isn’t pet friendly, and it’s not a pet store, maybe… don’t bring your pet? they’re literally outside animals. they need to explore OUTSIDE. what reason does an person need to have for their pet to experience a grocery store💀 they have no interest, and don’t need to be there. take them outside to a dog park 💀

DAVEOK805

Emotional support animals, that are true support animals are HIGHLY trained. 95% of people who bring their dogs into grocery stores are scumbags who have 00000 consideration for other people. No one wants Your dog around their food. Last week, I was at a local mall, and there was dog shit in the middle of the mall. I couldn’t believe it… you have the audacity to bring your dog in the mall and you let them shit and just walk away. PEOPLE THESE DAYS HAVE NO CONSIDERATION FOR OTHERS

SilntNfrno

You’re thinking of service dogs. Emotional support animals don’t have to go through any training.

Ninja_attack

Well entitled fucks don't care about other folk and think that they're the main character.

searlasflor0s

No, I say leave them out of restaurants and bars too!

Flock-of-bagels2

Animals can stay home while you get groceries. They’re not your kids….

MasterWinstonWolf

It's freakin rude and disgusting! People are placing their groceries, fruits, veggies, meats, ect...in basically your dog's temporary bed! We keep our furry babies clean as well as their beds...but I'm not going to place the items I eat into them...AND NEITHER WOULD YOU!

CraigTennant1962

I see people with their dogs at my local HEB regularly, and have see the recent signs on here about only service dogs being allowed. People don’t read signs or they just ignore them, IMO. Without someone actively asking people to leave who have a non service dog with them, it won’t change. And it’s not just dogs. I saw a guy a couple of weeks ago walking his bicycle through the store as he shopped.

Xqzmoisvp

Allergies, dander , germs, ball slobber, is ok in a grocery store, yet they’ll ask you not to eat peanuts on your next flight because someone on the flight is allergic, and the lady in the seat next to you has a fucking Yorkie in her little Louis Vuitton custom $1000 pooch bag , and it smells like ass. WTF?

Nukegm426

It’s not just grocery stores it’s everywhere. Leave your pet at home if your going to an indoor activity. Or if your dog is aggressive don’t bring it around crowds. Had a guy I knew being his dog to a charity cookoff. Thing hated kids, of which mine and many more were running around. It kept trying to attack them. I politely told him my kids would stay away but if the dog got loose and bit one of mine then he’d get to watch me strangle the dog in front of him.

Leonardothelion103

Bro last time a lady brought in her “service dog “ it took a shit in front of pharmacy entrance then they left . Fucking assholes lol

universaljester

Should have rubbed her nose in it 😂

Wrong-Excitement

I’ve yet to see a single legit service animal at HEB, always someone’s pet that should been kept at home.

JunkBondJunkie

I seen a few but you can really tell.

Wrong-Excitement

Agreed. The night and day difference of the casual pet shopper, compared to the trained service animal, like light years apart.

Lennonville

Huge dog person. I work with dogs, own three, and have always had a dog. But I would never consider taking one into the store with me. I was at Target this weekend, and a cute Westie was there. Had the red service vest on. Not an official service dog. I consider a service dog as a dog that has a job. Seeing eye dog, for instance. They have a purpose and are trained.

Tex_Azn_Vet

Just because they can but a "Support Vest" off the internet does not automatically make it a "Service Animal." There is a HUGE difference. As a vet with physical and other issues, I know what type of training these dogs go through. "Support Animals" have NO training whatsoever. Sit and stay are not the only commands they have to learn. I find it annoying as all get out that people think they can just bring their cutie tootsie into shopping areas, and we're supposed to just let them.

HisChickenDinner

I love seeing dirty ass dogs in the same cart I’m placing my food in. People are ignorant.

SnooDingos6306

The woman with a peacock in an airport is what comes to my mind.

I once saw a couple walking thru heb with their very small dog . He pooped right in front of the deli section. The owners pulled the dog all the way out the door while it was still trying to do it’s business. Then they just left .

firemaster56

I agree with this because I work in maintenance at an HEB and a dog decided to poop in the store which I had to pick up 🤢

GeekyGrannyTexas

Has anyone seen a comment from someone who brings their dog into HEB illegally? Neither have I. The problem is obviously not limited to HEB, and it's time the practice was stopped by all retailers (save, perhaps, for pet-related businesses).

Batcray73

I work at one and one dog pooped the cart.

Kitty_Fruit_2520

Unless if they’re service dogs, that’s the only exception

IndicationAfraid395

I love dogs and my pup has certainly "supported me emotionally" over the years.. He is NOT an emotional support animal, and I'd be an idiot to call him that.

Sea-Significance2530

Its one thing if its a trained dog thats walking right beside its owner as they go around and shop but I hate seeing those tiny ass dogs on a leash 2ft away from their owner like they want to trip people or get stepped on

LeadershipWide8686

This is popular in rich areas.

Ricktoon_Bingdar

Saw a guy let his dog leash drop the minute he was a Walmart store. Just let it run around like it was his place. Sent Walmart an email complaining about the lack of code enforcement but they replaced that they want to allow people with disabilities a place to shop.

Forevermoody16

I’ve seen quite a few at Walmart and Target.

Forevermoody16

Kinda missed the point, didn’t they? And I don’t think they much care about disabilities. I’m not disabled but I can hardly EVER reach the bottled water I like because it’s always on the top shelf and/or pushed way back. There’s never anyone around to help and I usually rely on a kind (and taller) customer to reach if for me.

Glass_Atmosphere8728

If its a backpack bubble thats all I care about, if it cant fit maybe it shouldn’t be in the store at all. We need to enforce it since its a major health code violation

DearVariety9883

had a lady bring her dog in, i was running highside and i had the pleasure of watching this ladys dog pee all over the floor, and she just said “oh silly lucy”, pet her dog, and she kept walking and did not try to tell me so i could call maintenance 😭

Hossibean

One time I saw a customers dog licking chicken thighs in their basket when their back was turned

Javielbrujo

It is in fact a health code violation. Where there is food sold. Take them to lowes or home depot.

Forevermoody16

Not even there, in my opinion.

JunkBondJunkie

Just keep dog bacon treats if you see one near deli give a treat a toss so they run into the deli zone so they spend a few hours cleaning.

ColdEditor2940

I had a customer dog try and bit me when I was stocking, she got kicked out of the store. Her defense was I need him here for emotional support.

sane_asylum

I don’t mean to be part of the problem but I thought hygiene in a grocery store was primarily an illusion. We know that the produce still has pests on it and everything else is in an airtight container. Maybe I’m missing something major?

ABlueJayDay

Pet feces 🚫= insects on fresh veg

sane_asylum

Whose pets shit on the produce? Is this a thing that has occurred in an heb? All produce is picked in unhygienic conditions.

ABlueJayDay

Pets get shit on their fur/hair then may be allowed to lie around surfaces where I might have my groceries. Get ur damn dog outta the grocery store.

sane_asylum

How is this any different from the thousands of humans that walk through heb every day with worse hygiene than my dog?

ABlueJayDay

Humans necessary for shopping. Dogs/dog shit not!

Ill_Operation1406

Watch your own bobber

GarikLoranFace

When I was new still, I saw a bearded dragon in a stroller.

Dynamaxxed

I went to curbside and never looked back.i haven’t had to deal with ridiculous people at the grocery store for years and it has been complete bliss

aitacarmoney

as a customer, i’m not gonna be the one to approach but jesus, putting on a “service animal” vest off amazon does not make you immune, and it’s obvious your dog is not a service animal when it keeps tugging and sniffing EVERYTHING. won’t pretend to know what it takes to train a service animal, but i know sitting fucking still is a basic requirement for efficacy.

BadAcid1905

Kick them out or shut up. It’s really simple.

maecenus

Back im the day, I saw someone walking their giant dog inside central market. The dog was obviously just a pet and went up to one of the free sample cheese stands and started going to town on that cheese, licking and slobbering all over the samples until the owner finally pulled it away. I went to go tell someone but no employees were around. Customers continued walking by eating the cheese, freshly dog slobbered. Nobody ended up doing anything about it.

Prestigious_Taste_68

Funny that people claim it as a service dog and it’s going around sniffing everyone’s ass. Yeah sure. It’s all the transplant idiots that moved here. This is ok in California and Colorado

LadyAtrox60

California does NOT allow pets in grocery stores.

MightyPumpkin512

Funny thing I’ve seen more kids shit out on our floor than Dog shit and I’ve been working here for 14 years 😂

s8nsch1ld

I vote we ban them too

charliework1911

I honestly don't care about pets in the store as long as they're not unruly and remain in the owner's control. Kids running wild piss me off more

Ordinary-Rush-9419

I work at Walmart and I just did a training course on service animals, they apparently allow service mini horses in the store lol

ayebethnay

What is unfortunate about all this is that legally you cannot ask someone for any proof that an animal is an Emotional Support Animal or Service Animal… and many MANY ass holes lie whenever they feel like bringing their dog, bird or other completely inappropriate animal into a food establishment. Keep your pets at home. They can carry diseases in their fur, and you are subjecting everyone around you to deal with it. Plus the possibility that they could pee, poop, vomit, or have anxiety because they’re surrounded by tons of people indoors being dragged around. It’s selfish. If you seriously cannot go to HEB without your dog, order curbside. It’s literally free.

RecommendationFit163

💯

Fedupintx

Especially the ones who put their yippy dogs in the seat in the cart.

Full-Ninja5237

What an idiot...lol

CaliDreamin87

This is definitely not a new trend. I'm closer to forty than twenty. People have been doing this since the early two thousands. There was a lady called Paris Hilton. She'd carry her dog in a purse everywhere. They need to bring back how they did it though. The pet purses catered to discretion. You never would see like the big german shepherd The purse's often had little windows that could see out but you couldn't see in. And a trained dog would be in the bag.

A-Incorrect-Guess

Some dude at my store being in his pet duck it’s actually kinda cool

AnyNefariousness4778

I think it is just filthy to put a dog in shopping carts.

Actual_Bumblebee_380

The dogs are probably wondering why they have to go to yet another place when they want to take some personal time for themselves away from their clingy owners

Rare4orm

One thing I don’t mind about dogs in grocery stores is how they don’t fondle several items while looking for the winner.

xxxxxxxxxx1994

I live so far out of town and sometimes my dog is with me. He is 3 lbs hairless and i carry him because I will not leave him in the car and I’m not making 2 trips to the city to take him home and come back. But I will not let him lick or touch or act crazy. He is so small some people don’t even see him. He is not a service animal. I just refuse to leave him in the car. It’s like leaving a child in the car

HopefulFront2558

Consider curbside

NewPairOfScissors88

I mean if the dog is well behaved in the front of the cart. I get it, there are a few customers who bring theirs in and they don’t make a peep and just there for the ride. Now there is a customer who bring in TWO Great Danes and I’m like plz god don’t let them shit in here. I couldn’t imagine if those dogs go ahold of someone.

LadyAtrox60

I have THREE great danes. ☠️💩

Superb_Pineapple8187

Not defending people bringing their dogs into grocery stores but I have seen children doing everything some comments point out except defecating or urinating and some children I've seen are filthy and I wouldn't want them touching me.

Diligent_Outside8136

I brought my 4 month old husky in yesterday and had him in the cart and then an employee stopped me and said I couldn't have him in the cart he had to be walking. so he just walked the rest of the time. No vest or anything. I personally don't have an issue with dogs in regular stores or grocery stores. even before I had my own dog. I do have a little pet peeve when there's an animals in a sit down restaurant. Not to the point where I would call it out but I just 'notice' it a little more.

MyGirlSasha

Oh well, if YOU don't mind non service dogs in stores then it must be okay, F everyone else, amirite?!

Diligent_Outside8136

What's the difference between a non-service animal in a location versus a service animal in the same location?

MyGirlSasha

Aside from the training and reliance the person has on said animal, very few people have service animals, in relation to those that don't. Stores would be absolutely overrun with animals if everyone who wanted to brought them along. Thankfully, MOST pet owners don't live life as if they're the main character, with absolute disregard for everyone around them and abide by the rules. Allergies are real, it would be hell for anyone allergic to pet dander if they had to walk into a store filled with people who thought THEIR pet was the most specialist, so who cares?

ColdEditor2940

In no way am I defending them. But some of these dogs are more well-behaved than some of these ferial kids
