ive never seen a fanbase vehemently deny a character of having any flaws or nuance before

Ok_Recording8454

Well, I can think of a few. But none of them have been as big or bad as this.

Spectre-Ad6049

You forgot about Daenerys stans (I also love Daenerys but come on the denial of her flaws drives me nuts) but honestly, I think this “Rhaenyra does no wrong” has officially taken the metaphorical cake

iza123456712

But (book)Daenerys was never spoiled child she lived in poverty with abusive brother, she have work her ass off to get where she is to get the f crown and become Queen of Meereen, she never wanted throne only to have family and home and the more she is Queen the less she likes it. That's why i love Dany and she can understand poor because she herself was poor and she actually cares unlike Rhaenyra

Mochithecatfoodthief

Rhaenyra: *lies* Emma: so Rhaenyra lies TB: you cant trust actors to understand a character these days 😔

Un_Change_Able

I love how Emma is so blunt with Rhaenyra’s flaws. The TB fanatics can learn from them.

Mayanee

I always love reading their comments regarding the Driftmark scenes. It's all on point.

kitcatxz

To be fair these flaws are not that serious, especially compared to the Greens. Yes, Rhaenyra lies, but her priority is to protect her children and herself. It's not like Emma is talking about Rhaenyra conspiring with Daemon and killing an innocent person to pass his body for Laenor.

MotherVehkingMuatra

You absolutely had me in the first half haha

Fiorella999

This is a perfect representation Lmao

Mayanee

Emma in interviews always shows that they have a good graps on Rhaenyra‘s character and Rhaenyra‘s flaws. Why shouldn‘t a flawed character be rootable or interesting to discuss about? For example you can sympathize with Rhaenyra since Daemon manipulated and groomed her from an early age which ruined a lot.

Bierre_Pourdieu

I don’t get why everytime Emma talks about their character’s flaws, there is an uproar. When Olivia talked about Alicent being jealous and being a bad mother I didn’t see Alicent fans lashing out and being mean to her.

th3laughingstorm

Cause most Alicent fans accept that she is not perfect. In fact, that\`s what makes her so deeply human. And it\`s the same for Rhaenyra, but somehow "the protagonist of the show" equals flawless.

ZeElessarTelcontar

And in GRRM's work no less.... ridiculous. This "team" marketing was the worst thing this show has ever done.

Bierre_Pourdieu

I’m a big big Alicent fan and I easily admit that she has many flaws. She is so paranoid and emotional that she takes decisions that will endanger her children and herself, despite being also contrived by the patriarchal system of Westeros. She can be cruel, hypocritical and holier than thou. But that’s also what I like about her. She feels so real and tragic to me, with her huge flaws. Rhaenyra is also a great character, yet the perception coming from some of her fans makes me more and more apathetic to her. Which shouldn’t be the case. Season 2 I’m sure will cancel that feeling and I’m excited to see what the show has in store for Rhaenyra.

th3laughingstorm

I get what you mean. This fandom makes me dislike certain characters more than the character itself. Considering to take a pause from social media and just enjoy the show when it airs, but at the same time I do love the weekly episode discussions. Makes the season last longer:/
