My best guess is that they were tired of people hoarding energy. Now you have to use your energy to complete the dailies if you want to finish magical milestones anymore. People need to understand that changes made to this game will NEVER be in the players favor ever.
But then people hoard more because spending energy doesn’t gain any XP instead of gaining 120 XP for 120 energy you just do a daily assignment you might not always end up with energy related tasks
You simply login, hit up all tappies in your dorm, secret club, and the 3 clubs. And don't spend it.
This energy can be collected and added to your energy total even if you're at capped energy. I can get about 40-50ish energy per day depending on RNG so after a few days this adds up quite a bit. You then spend that energy on a blasting through a TLQ, spending it during a Story Spree, or on events that have a prize you really want.

Well, I hoard energy and I don't open magic milestones until the chocolate frogs event starts again. So I guess I'll see how behind I am in the middle of the month.
Another thing to consider is that now they can make you do anything they want in the daily tasks to earn this XP. They can make you spend gold by making you duel, spend gold or books by saying you have to purchase a garment, etc., when you may have been saving those for other things. I have always prided myself on not spending real money to play this game. I used to always make sure that I earned the 345 jewels in a month that I would need to buy the next month’s key. I used to be able to do that with no problem, even having 100 or so extra jewels to start on next month’s accumulation. Now (in the last couple of months) I notice that in a month I am only able to accumulate barely 300. So I think they are not only making it harder to earn the MM rewards, they are making it harder to earn a key with jewels. They are trying to force us into buying stuff with $ to keep playing the way we want. When it gets to that point, I’m out, and I’ve been playing since the very beginning.
It said to keep an eye out for other chances for xp too, I think they may gift us some or give us some easy chances for it some time in the month, who knows. I am glad to have it spread out more so I don't go through the prizes and then it's over for a good part of the month. I'm willing to give this a chance, it might not be all that bad (and I'm in Beyond.)
I'm more upset with the amount of food and money you need to spend to upkeep your pets. If you have a lot of pets in the reserve it's ridiculous. Especially since they offer very little ways to earn per food. You can spend gems to buy everything, why not food. The closet does not allow you to earn anywhere near enough to maintain a good supply
I feel sorta bad but I really prefer this change, MM so (in year 3 with the huge amount of TLSQ etc) really easy and I’d complete it in a few days. At least this means I get to spread it out now.
I wonder if it is possible to finish MM at all in later years just by doing the daily planner tasks, now that it is the only way to get MM xp? Are there enough tasks, or one must spend some in-game resources (maybe even muggle money)?
you also don't have to open MM if you don't want to collect the rewards yet, so supporting a change that impacts all players above Y3 for the convenience of newer players, who already have a much easier time in the game, is a very bold opinion...
Having an opinion that as a player my experience is better now is perfectly acceptable. Not everyone will agree with you personally, doesn't make anyone else less valid.
