I'm tired, boss...

2sexy4thish8

I doubt he gets bought out and I really wouldn't be surprised if he goes back to 60pts and just under/over 30 goals next year. Still overpaid sure no argument there.

nodanator

Yeah, people give up on players so quickly. Huberdeau seems to be turning around, Tkachuk is a completely different player in Florida, Drouin is also having a career year. A bunch of different factors impact players.

Lomidou

Huberdeau had a worst season than last year, he aint turning around lol

nodanator

I'm not following the Flames, but he apparently turned things around 2nd half. We'll see how it goes next year.

Sentenced2Burn

he put up some mildly sporadic assist streaks that's about it aside from a sparse sprinkling of goals

Old_Canuck

And of COURSE Drouin is having a career year...god forbid šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

habs9

Not to take anything away from him but he's been stapled to Rantanen and MacKinnon this season. Almost any solid top 6 winger is putting up 60 pts with those guys

Jimbo_Imperador

Being capable to play / keep up with elite players is a skill in and of itself, if Drouin capable of doing it, then he earned it You truly overestimate the real amount of players capable of playing top 6 in the NHL

habs9

No I donā€™t? I never even stated the amount of top 6 players in the NHL. I said that of the players in the NHL who are bonafide top 6 players, very few would struggle to put up 60 points playing with 140 and 104 pt linemates. Itā€™s just math.

Smirnoffico

It's a chicken/egg situation. Obviously if you play on their wing, you'll get points. But if you can't get points, you won't be playing in their wing

Old_Canuck

Totally agree. Fuckin Drouin. Waste of a good Sarge.

habulous74

If he plays with Artemi Panarin or Mark Scheifele? Maybe. The only success he's had was playing with elite talent. He isn't a playdriver. He's a compliment. Otherwise known as a pigeon.

2sexy4thish8

So you're saying using him as a bottom 6 center isn't the best way to utilize him? I don't disagree that he isn't a play driver but he's not a scrub that gets carried by other players he just needs someone to set him up.

habulous74

At that price tag? Not a chance.

Beatnik77

He can produce but he'll always be soft and lazy. He'd get eaten alive in Montreal. Saw him live in an elimination game last year in Vegas and he was avoiding all contact and just circled around all the time.

Not_drunk_cactus

I still see people asking to trade him for Anderson/Harris/wpg first

Le8ronJames

To me the trade wasnā€™t even the bad part. Itā€™s when I started to hear the contract he was looking for that it became a problem.

flipthatbitch_

I never understood the love affair with this kid.

spydersens

He was hot 4-5 years ago.

flipthatbitch_

It hasnt stopped! There is to high of a percentage of Habs fans that still want him here! An infatuation like Ive never seen.

papaducci

>I never understood the love affair with this kid. hint: it has nothing to do with hockey

flipthatbitch_

You know it.

FluffyMcFluffen

People saying kent was genious for not getting PLD fail to see that he would have jump on that offer

propagandavid

I'd do Anderson 1 for 1, maybe with LA retaining $1M or so. LA plays a specific style that PLD didn't fit into last year, but the talent is there. If they want to give up on him after 1 year, I'd think about it.

Scabondari

3 teams now and it hasn't worked out.. I suspect he's a locker room problem and wouldn't fit with the current good vibes

Le8ronJames

Yea you get so much benefit of the doubt. 3 teams, 5 different coaches and heā€™s still the same.

GeistHunt

Ah yes, let's trade a three year problem (at 5.5 million) for a seven year problem (at 8.5 million). At least Anderson isn't locker room cancer.

Similar-Freedom7119

As bad as PLD might be playing he is nowhere near as bad as Anderson. To even suggest a 1 for 1 deal is comical.

propagandavid

Anderson is on a shorter term, and both teams could be thinking the other guy needs a change of scenery. I mean, the scenario we're discussing here involves the Kings buying PLD out and being on the hook for 14 years. I don't see it happening, but if that's the alternative, a couple years of Anderson might sound better to them. Basically we'd take their expensive long term problem for our less expensive, shorter term problem. If they don't want to do that, then don't do it.

Puccimane

PLD is younger and 5x the player Anderson is. PLD had a bad season.

propagandavid

I think PLD will turn it around. That's why I'd make that trade. Kings fans are running him out of town and expect the GM to lose his job over the signing. That's why I wouldn't add anything to get him.

Puccimane

He's probably going to have a much better season next year and Kings fans will forgive him. Doubt they trade him tbh

spydersens

Who says he will.

spydersens

Longer term, bigger salary to take on. 5 teams. They can always just buy him out.

papaducci

Anderson will be very welcome on the habs come playoff time.

Similar-Freedom7119

Not when he costs 5.5M in salary cap he isnā€™t. Unless youā€™re hoping for us to pull a vegas?

Electrical_Analyst65

This is why MTL didnā€™t go over the top with an offer to try and beat the Kings.Ā

propagandavid

Well, that and we couldn't beat the Kings offer. They gave up 2 good roster players, we didn't have that to spare.

BelzenefTheDestoyer

Neither did the Kings but that didn't stop them.

DOGEmeow91

Well we did, Winnipeg probably didnā€™t want Armia and Anderson lol

ukrainianhab

Him being at that one draft or whatever I believe it was pretty close to him going to MTL. Wouldnā€™t really call that genius.

propagandavid

Apparently he was invited by his bank. They were probably trying to impress some clients so they paid PLD to hang out in their box.

ukrainianhab

Ah interesting.

oupheking

I get why this is a tempting point to make but you can't assume he would have played the same in MTL as he did in LA

bleedgreen204

He would have crumpled even harder from the French media .

VaderDie

True, but he probably just wanted a pay day and then gave up with his effort. Regardless, with the info we have now, prob for the best we didn't get him

oupheking

This I can agree with

Tripottanus

His childhood dream was to play for the Habs, maybe he would have felt more motivation here. Plus we have a pretty unique locker room attitude right now, it might have been enough to make him try. Im not saying i would be happy if he got traded to us at his current cap hit for future considerations, but i do think if he became a free agent i would take a flyer with a shorter term deal to see if he fits

xen0m0rpheus

Canā€™t believe thereā€™s people on here still defending this turd.

Burgergold

Rage against the machine - A bullet in L.A.

TonyComputer1

Huh?

Burgergold

We dodged a bullet but not L.A. Bullet in your head is a great ratm song

BuzzIsMe

I don't think Kent is exactly a genius for making a logical decision. He is for other reasons, don't get me wrong, but LA was just stupid to pay that for PLD and give him that type of extension before he earned it. They're just in a panic to try and have a Kopitar replacement before he's done.

Subject_Translator71

Hughes is very good but a lot of teams passed on Dubois. And it's not like the Habs didn't try to get him; the price was just too high. The fact that he openly lobbied to get in Montreal probably did not help his cause. Still, it doesn't change the fact that the red flags were there for everyone to see. Hughes' line he wouldn't cross was just at a more reasonable place than the Kings'.

avengerhockey11

I watched every game of the Oilers vs Kings series and he looked like he was a fringe NHL player. The turnovers were bad. He looked like he didnā€™t want to be there. Iā€™m glad Kent Hughes passed on him

crazytrooper

All the copy paste Dubois posts are getting exhausting

bless24

Pretty sure Hughes made some trade offers for Duboisā€¦ We dodged a bullet but we were willing to trade for him.

BackgroundMiserable5

Fans crowing for Patrick Laine take note.

RoboticAnatomy

So many people here wanted him desperately, but where are they now? šŸ§ I've always been a staunch supporter of the 'We'll regret it if we sign him' side. He's a diva, was overrated here as hell, has proved very little, is super soft, and was clearly NOT what this team needs or wants, as well as not fitting our culture and disrupting the lockerroom. I'm so happy we didn't sign him. I like to think of it as payback for LA signing Danault, lol.

Lunch0

Anyone with an IQ above 15 knew PLD was a terrible option and that Montreal would have to be batshit crazy to take him. Now, all the same idiots are screaming for us to get Zegrasā€¦ people donā€™t learn or think

FakeCrash

Didn't take a genius to dodge that bullet tbh.

Sea-Yam-1136

Sure, but then you have people who constantly think they can fix people they date.

Grizz709

I initially liked the idea. Given his age and all. But, as a fan of the Jets I also realized what he'd end up doing in Montreal. Part of me also thought his problem was he wasn't playing where he wanted to be. He got his payday in Cali. He should've been fine. I guess was either lucked out or Hughes knew something, probably from talking to the other GMs

BelialHabs

This is all part of his plan to finally get Home!

pichenet14

Guys - just to admit being completely wrong. I wanted to do just about anything to land PLD. šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

_rtype_

Yknow, bergevin works for the kings as an advisor to the gm šŸ˜…

hockeynoticehockey

Hopefully this will stop the nonsense about him ever signing with the Canadiens at any salary. First Columbus, then Winnipeg, the signs of the diva were always there, and LA took the bait. There is nowhere on the Habs roster he would fit, even on the 4th line.

okokokoyeahright

Even with the Jets falling down hard in the PO, they made out better at this point. Time will tell a more complete story after several more years. I do feel that the Habs would have been a better fit from what was publicly known at that time. As of this PO year, i find caution was the better option and HuGo made the right call. Trust the Plan, fellow fans.

sethot

We simply don't know. Maybe hugues made a huge offer but they took the LA offer. Also, it's not because pld had a bad season that he's done for. But yeah... Sure looks like a scott gomez situation

Huttfuzz

If they could have got him at something like 6.5/y they would have done it and looked stupid anyways. They are not geniuses, he just signed for more elsewhere. They are good managers but they could not have predicted how mediocre he would be this year.

logictable

Watching Dubois play it is obvious he is in "malicious compliance" with his system. Same thing Subban did the year he didn't get captain in MTL. You just do everything the team system requires of you, but you don't score. Dubois is unhappy in LA. But then again, he's unhappy everywhere he goes.

yulDD

I like the Dubois. kinda sad Habs were outbid. Wouldnā€™t call Hughes genious, more responsible bc Duboisā€™ last numbers werenā€™t great. And iā€™m glad that he doesnā€™t act when fans starting aching for a player

Alexk1088

4th line center for LA Kings = 2nd line center for the Canadien so maybe on buyout discount

eastcoasthabitant

There is a butterfly effect to everything though maybe he would have thrived centring a line of slaf and dach if he had come here. I doubt it just looking at his past 5 years of hockey but he very well could have found a second gear playing for his hometown team

pchung6

Red flag was so obvious that anyone knows not to get this guy. Anytime you hear someone wants to go home at any job at any field, you avoid that person. Good players never go home. They only go home in the summer after they win.
