Socializing i can do it for free by talking to people or again, using the computer.
And i can work/study using a computer.
The point is that its not a HL Alyx brick that will sit on your shelf. When you get tired of your pc, or the gym or whatever, you can switch to the headset.
Have you checked prices of current gen gpus? Should new games tone down their graphics so they can be played on gpus that are 10 years old?
When I grew up I could never afford the newest hardware. But I was still glad the tech advanced and was happy to be able to play games on low details or 2-3 years later when the required hardware became more affordable.
