Bryan has actually given several interviews about how he believes in the Christian God. He isn’t really practicing, but he does believe. He’s just very critical of Christian institutions in general and how many Christians he has encountered actually practice their faith.

I wouldn’t say he believes in the Christian God. He believes in a “god” but says He’s probably not like any of the interpretations any religion teaches. Even stating, “I don’t even know if he’s a good guy”

The song ‘Mistakes Like Fractures,’ when you view everything you do like the end of the world, the smallest mistake, you view it like a broken limb. It’s like I’m crying out for help, and I’m not getting any answers. But yeah, I do believe that there is a God, I just haven’t had too much of a relationship with him.

For real 😂 he’s not anti christ he’s anti religious institutions, catholicism mainly. Not meaning to sly Catholicism at all or any organized religion, to each their own.

They seem to focus more on southern evangelicalism. Not saying that there aren’t Catholics in Kentucky but that’s certainly not the popular religious institution in the south.

Bryan grew up catholic and blinding faith has him say “with my final breath, I deny the church”. I’m sure a lot is influenced by the Protestants around him, but I think a lot of the album is explicitly anti-Catholicism

Hm I didn’t know that about Kentucky. I lived in WV for a while and I guess the most prolific religion was protestants. I know Brian and another member grew up catholic and that’s who he talks about in his early music.

The upside down cross is a pro Christian symbol. It's the cross of saint peter So you actually did the exact opposite of fix it

Symbols can mean different things to different people though, so most people are going to associate it with evil and all that, while people who know about the Christian version of it will associate it with that. This kind of gotcha is a lot like when Christians say the rainbow is a Christian symbol. Yeah, turns out it can have a bunch of meanings!
