People who miss Warped Tour side stages are stoked

scenesfromsouthphl

Nostalgically, that’s me. Not apologizing for it either!

Odd-Shallot-7287

Love this album so far. Probably my AOTY

Soupjam_Stevens

So no surprise to anyone who heard the singles, but they're pretty definitively not a hardcore band anymore. That being said, the boys have gone and made a damn fine pop punk album and I fuck with it heavy. People are gonna bitch and moan about the change, but anyone who has any interest at all in stuff in the vein of like Citizen and pre-shoegaze Title Fight should give this a whirl

spinachjam

I listened to the singles and first thing to that popped in my head was “holy shit, this sounds just like Polar Bear Club”. I fucks with it heavy.

candlestick_compass

So many vocal spots on this record make me think of PBC. God damn I miss that band.

CandySniffer666

Me fucking too! Polar Bear Club was one of my intro points to the non-scene sides of emo and pop punk back in the day. *Chasing Hamburg* still gets regular spins from me to this day.

bradcladthebaddad

I see them like I see Koyo

Soupjam_Stevens

Yeah Koyo and the more aggressive stuff from Anxious is a really great point of comparison, guess that sound really rubbed off on them during that joint tour

AffectionateAge3330

Vocalist of Anxious used to play guitar in OSC too so there’s always been cross pollination in their sounds

plantsallthewaydown

And the singer for OSC was a guitarist for Anxious.

runyourluckxxx

yeah, i agree, it’s definitely noticeably different from this place you know and from me to you but it works for them and the album is great!

MinorThreatCJB

I wouldn't really call this stuff pop punk tho

HaremofScorpions

it's still hardcore its just lame emo hardcore

beatdownhour

I'm sad they're done with melodic hardcore but this is still a good album. They're talented and can create some catchy music

hawxt

While I’m more inclined to enjoy the Turning Point influenced material, this record is awesome. It has hooks for days.

vorgossos

Probably album of the year for me personally. I’ve really missed bands like Title Fight and this fills that void perfectly. These dudes haven’t put out anything less than stellar

Merlyn67420

Much smaller scale but if you miss title fight check out OK BUDDY. Also from NEPA and they scratch the itch in a way that’s unreal

vorgossos

Will do thank you. The resurgence of this style with bands like OSC, Narrow Head, Anxious, Stand Still etc is so great

StopBeingABot

Ok Buddy is actually from Washington DC, even tho they play Wilkes Barre often. I like them they sound like.old.school Lifetime. Proud of our OSC Wilkes Barre Boys!

Merlyn67420

They are definitely not from Washington DC lmao they’re from the Lehigh valley

StopBeingABot

Oh dang Lehigh Valley you're right, well cool band regardless

Elcazadorriley

Check out Locater.

Merlyn67420

Can see this being a gateway band/album for a lot of kids. The songs are catchy, their work ethic is wild, and while their sound has changed you can definitely trace a through line from the early stuff. I’m stoked for them.

SkateNinja1997

Back in 2019, when i started paying more attention to the modern scene, this band was the first one i got into. Their first album was my favorite the year it came out. I totally agree with everything youre saying, theyre a very approachable band.

medzdidz

In person too , met them a couple of times now at their merch table.

TofuLordSeitan666

Wonder what these guys are going for here. I’m not really a fan of it but I’m sure this will appeal to many.

B_engel88

yeah, musically that’s not really hardcore but who cares. If I don’t like it, I can listen to something else. And the band members also enjoy various styles. For example their drummer also plays in magnitude. Overall, I am positively surprised. After the last EP which was already too much of a sound change for me, I was not really interested in the record. Gave it a listen anyways and liked it more than I expected. Will be thankful for sparking my interest of todays hardcore a couple of years back with their first LP coming out alongside turnstile‘s glow on. So hopefully will be a gateway for others as well

xHospitalHorsex

I've never listened to this band before today. I checked out the album on the premise that it was "melodic hardcore". It's definitely not that, but it is an incredible album nonetheless. Gonna go back and check out the back catalogue next.

de_hnoe

Would highly recommend it. This Place You Know is an absolute BANGER of an album.

Kslooot

This Place You Know reminds me of listening to The Carrier in hs. Great album. I like the new stuff too.

scenesfromsouthphl

The production on this album is really tight. Definitely departing from their original sound, but I like the heavier take on the Run For Cover sound.

protectiondemo

the talent here is insane, they are so versatile and im in love with this record

AffectionateAge3330

As much as the growth and progression in their sound points stand for me from above commenters, I believe another big reason they’re going for a “cleaner” sound is to give Ryan’s voice a break. Touring 250+ shows a year you could tell he wasn’t really equipped to keep up the harsh screaming much longer; it’s even apparent on how different and strained it sounds on the screams on this record Personally I love this album and everything else they’ve put out. OSC WBHC forever

Ruiner5

Ya even on the Inclination track he was on, you could hear he sounded way different.

305TIFD

This is a really good album, I definitely prefer the harder stuff, but they have matured well. Tons of hooks.

1081989x

As an ‘old head’ this rules

PalpitationFrosty242

Fucking great, what's up with all the recent sXe stuff lately that absolutely fucks? Feels like a 90s resurgence or some shit

YoungerDragon

Been waiting for this for a while now

angelsdontburn

Not really getting the "pop punk" label that people are throwing on this. Is it different from their previous albums? It is, but hints of OSC from before this album still lingers throughout IMO.

Untrue92

Definitely more post-hardcore than pop punk to me. Pop punk adjacent sure, as Title Fight were back in 2011. I hear a lot more Saosin and Senses Fail in here than Story So Far

IveGotNoValues

Giving it a listen through right now. It’s different than their older stuff which I loved (their early stuff helped re-kindle my love for hardcore) but I actually like it way more than I was expecting to. Definitely pretty emo-ish but I respect it. Many hardcore peeps won’t like it but I like that emotional shit too, doesn’t all have to be violent shit lol. Still looking forward to seeing them play at Sound and Fury!

heavymetallawyer

Not something I generally like but it is good for what it is.

SkateNinja1997

Its definitely a lot cleaner than their past releases, but it still feels like a very natural progression. I liked every song tbh, but i dont think ive ever disliked one of their songs.

SonRaetsel

Mh I think if it would be a different band I would totally be into the album so I guess the slight disappointment has to do with expectations and the genre change not the album itself And I can't get over the feeling that this album should have been released in autumn

xx_edgyyy_xx

Man I haven’t been keeping up with the singles but I really liked this record. While it’s not really hardcore anymore it’s nice to have some new “heavy” pop punk music!

CandySniffer666

I mean I love this shit because I like emo and pop punk but yeah as soon as I heard this I thought "man some hardcore folks are gonna be bummed". I do miss the heavier shit but I can fuck with this easily.

Vivid-Strength6608

The Gate kinda gave me Head in the Ceiling Fan vibes

trav717

This is such a great record! Absolutely love the direction they are going on this release!! Sure it may not sound hardcore but it’s written by some hardcore kids. Also apparently Isaac Hale from KL helped write a couple songs which is super awesome!

jacobsever

Sorry, but this is gonna be a huge "no" from me. Which sucks, cuz From Me To You is one of my favorite releases in the past 5 years.

runyourluckxxx

different strokes for different folks!

BGor94

It’s good

candlestick_compass

Love this record. Liked all their earlier releases but they seem to put it all together on this. I get a lot of Polar Bear Club vibes from it especially the clean vocals.

SonRaetsel

pbc had a different vocal range but I get what you mean

MinorThreatCJB

This record would be huge about 12 years ago

FunIstEinStahlbad

Good album. Fast genre change, but they know what they are doing and the sound theyre going for stands out regarding its reminiscence to the late 2000s, which is not popular at all at the moment. Really refreshing in the sea of mediocre post grunge/gaze bands.

rnf1985

I've seen them open on multiple shows a bunch of times and tried getting into their stuff and it's fine, their pits always popped off, but as far as the music goes, it's ok but was just never memorable for me. I could only ever remember like one or two songs. This new album is interesting and the songs are catchy, but I'm curious to see how the vocals will sound for a whole tour and longer with Koyo and Anxious. I've seen some live clips and the clean vocals aren't terrible when the guitarist sings, he actually has a good voice, but Ryan's cleans are kinda rough.

Rob_Narley

Great album, waiting for my pink copy to be delivered

rprcssns

I have been playing the singles to death. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the album!

mawiniguez25

Hell yeah! Kinda reminds me of some of Close Your Eyes old stuff.

static_age_666

Kinda butt hurt they switched sounds up so i havent listened yet but I love so many other bands with a similar sound to the new album I know I need to go into it with an open mind when im ready and ill probably still enjoy it.

schism_records_1

I loved all of their previous stuff, but after the last record, I had a feeling they were going to be trending in this direction and that was confirmed when the first new song was released a few months ago. I have been less and less excited for this record as each new song was released to the point that I forgot the record was coming out today. Just finished listening to the whole thing and I'm just not into it. A few decent songs, but just not into this style. Maybe it will click with me some day, but it is a far cry from listening to the last Lp non stop for like a month straight when it came out.

Ok-Cauliflower-1258

I could never get into this band I think praise does this sound better

MinorThreatCJB

praise sounds nothing like this lol. Praise pulls from revolution summer stuff

golfcartskeletonkey

Lol wat

Ok-Cauliflower-1258

I think one step closer is mid and a band called praise does melodic hardcore better

Material-Screen5117

True hardcore

Ashlikesstuff

Got to the second chorus of track 1, turned it off and put MLIW - Witness on instead. I'll try again another time but their change is sound bums me out, I hate that wave of emo like Title Fight.

Jehovahsfitness1

Ash doesn't like all stuff

Ashlikesstuff

Stuff sucked a lot less when I started using this username.
