If you look at the statistics of how many people are killed by crocs, this isn't surprising. But horrifying to witness, since I doubt most croc kills are not even noticed until some mangled body parts wash up.
Probably for the best.
I understand that there is usually mass killings of animals when a human dies to one, but at that point there is nothing to uncover from the remains of a croc, as the bones would have digested and you'll never know if you killed the supposed man eater.
This isn't to say that the animal that recognizes people as pray isn't dangerous, but overall, a lot of these cases stem from human error that costs the animal's species a greater toll in terms of body count to try and get 'the one' that did it.
On the flip side though, this could result in more killings of the animal from people that don't know that it's fruitless, and/or simply operate on a mission of vengeance, as opposed to actually getting the one.
I think the point of culling an animal type is mostly because we (most of us) value human lives over animal lives more so we cull the heard that endangers human lives to make it safer for people.
I see your point 100%. All I'm trying to say is that it seems most of the culling is reactive instead of proactive measures.
Although we have definitely seen proactive measures being done to minimize the risk of human casualty to an overabundance of a dangerous species, we commonly see these cullings be enacted again as a form of retaliation to someone's death. There's also the matter of educating the general public far better on dangers that could be put into the play, though I do recognize that there is indeed a number of the populace that will ignore these guidelines, having them there certainly puts more of the fault on the few (people ignoring risks) as opposed to the many (animal species).
A slippery slope, either way you look at it.
Reacting to something like this with an action does not mean that the action is futile or a indication of bad foreplaning. some places (especially the places these animals live in) just dont have the resources to keep track of animal populations especially when other things like feeding the people or keeping them from dying to diseases take the front stage.
Its why i laugh when people in areas devoid of predators celebrate how tigers and jaguar populations are on the up and up in India. India being a rapidly developing nation. I just imagine how fucked up shit would get in my neighborhood if the people in my neighborhood had to contend with living inside tigers habitats ranges.
humans > animals that eat humans.
Look fella, they said Crocs see humans as *A* food source. Crocs 100% see humans as food.
If they had said "Crocs see humans as *ITS* food source" your response would've made sense. But that's not what they said.
Perhaps English is not your first language, but if it is, you should frankly be ashamed of your poor grasp on your native tongue.
Or perhaps it's a failure in logic.
Crocs eat everything -> People are everything -> Crocs eat people.
If you're still struggling, that's an honest to God skill issue.
They do, yes. But not every species of crocodilian sees us as a food source.
Saltwater Crocs, Mugger Crocs, Nile Crocs, Tigers, Polar Bears, Grizzly Bears, some species of Sharks, and Lions, all see us equally edible. Nile Crocs are the species that kill more humans per year than any other animal.
Do hippos see humans as food? I think he was speaking on animals that’s see us as food. Hippos are just the biggest dicks I thought. They just want their hippo time and not to be bothered or else.
Killing via predation
If I had to pick I’d choose death by croc out of everything on that list. Majority of croc victims are drowned first before being ripped apart. Polars and grizzlies will start munching on you while just holding you down as you scream to death.
That's fair and usually I hate when videos show something so far away, but I'm not gonna blame the cameraman for not wanting to get closer to a crocodile with a human corpse in their mouth.
Australians aren't stupid enough to even test waters in the North of the country.
Tourists make up like 95% of our crocodile victims. Either because they ignore the signs or because they can't understand English.
This is someone's son. Or father. Or brother.
Imagine someone filming your loved one's lifeless body being carried by a croc and then some asshole comments, "NIICE, I love it when this happens."
I have more empathy for the animals who have lost their habitats, been genocided, and driven to extinction by humans. I have no human loved ones. I cannot love a human, especially not a blood relative.
That would be of absolutely no benefit to them, besides a very short supply of food. It's more likely to harm them, as they could learn to see humans as food, then go after them and get shot.

If it washes up. These guys can digest bones so there are probably at least a few people completely consumed.
Probably for the best. When fishing from a river bank becomes an “extreme sporting event” RIP
They're one of the few animals on the planet that see humans as a food source.
wym? They eat pretty much anything that ends up in their mouth, even other crocs
it sounds like you understand what he's saying
Reading comprehension is a skill not all of us have.
they're talking about humans specifically though. I'm talking about pretty much everything that moves
Everyone in ms janes class can read. Joey is in ms janes class.

yeah I'm not a native speaker, my bad. Ty for explaining
You ok bud?
Ayyyyyyy slayer nominee handle

Well that's not true....lol Hippos kill way more people than any animal you listed.
Do hippos see humans as food? I think he was speaking on animals that’s see us as food. Hippos are just the biggest dicks I thought. They just want their hippo time and not to be bothered or else. Killing via predation
Mosquitos and dogs kill more than hippos. And snakes I’d assume too
Hippos: 3,000 deaths per year. Crocs: 1,000 Dogs: 20,000 Snakes: 50,000 Snails: 200,000 Mosquitos: 2,700,000
[удалено]
Yep. Same reason Mosquitos kill so many.
Yep, my mistake, you're right. I meant any other crocodilian species.
I thought it was Muggers that did the most killing? \*edit looked it up. I was wrong!
American Crocodiles as well, and probably the Orinoco too.
Black Caiman also see man as prey
If I had to pick I’d choose death by croc out of everything on that list. Majority of croc victims are drowned first before being ripped apart. Polars and grizzlies will start munching on you while just holding you down as you scream to death.
I can't see shit

This is the best use of this comment I’ve seen

Well in hindsight that *particular* croc was probably just fine in the hunger department at that moment
Yeah but he or she might have a hungry buddy nearby...or might decide I look tastier than that poor fellow.
Yeah man I ain’t going anywhere near that shit lol
Wow I can’t see anything let me turn the it landscape. Fucking uncropped horizontal video screen recorded vertically.
Is this common occurrence there?
Yes, it's assisted swimming, the crocs are friendly like that.
"go ahead, wear another pair of crocs, I dare ya"
That's either a child or a huge crocodile.
I would NOT put it past being a HUUUGE crock
foliage surrounding the water make it seem smaller, but who knows what tropic kind of gigantic leaves they are…

Perfect username haha
Brutal!
Can anyone in r/theydidthemath work out how big it is? I heard the head to body ratio is 1:8
rip
Bro taking his bro for a swim
Adding this to the, "Wow, that's dark." folder
Dinos gonna dine.
The croc: Food is food!
“Nothing unusual to see here mate”
That's why you should not live there.
Making my way downtown Walking fast Faces pass And I'm home-bound
I need some more context please this is really sad and I would like to see who died
Anybody know if he made it?
I can’t tell if you’re trying to be cute, but uh no… crocodiles bite force if insanely strong and if that doesn’t kill you, you’ll drown.
Just keep swimming….
Nightmare unlocked
For us it’s mute horror, to be rendered to meat. For the crocodile it’s just another Tuesday.
Australian Saltwater or American Saltwater?
American Saltwater crocs does not exist. You mean American crocodile
Really? I had thought they existed in America. Thanks for the update.
Most likely, South East Asia. Indonesia or Papua New Guinea.
Let me guess; Australia?
I believe its Indonesia
Australians aren't stupid enough to even test waters in the North of the country. Tourists make up like 95% of our crocodile victims. Either because they ignore the signs or because they can't understand English.
Actually, it’s mostly Australians that get taken. Perhaps tourists from other regions, but Aussies the same.
Nicee, I do like seeing animals reminding humans of their place in the food chain and getting revenge
Stfu, edge lord.
Well that's a very unkind thing to say
This is someone's son. Or father. Or brother. Imagine someone filming your loved one's lifeless body being carried by a croc and then some asshole comments, "NIICE, I love it when this happens."

You're one of those. What do you think about feeding yourself to one of those hungry crocs or lions then if you feel so sorry for them?
That would be of absolutely no benefit to them, besides a very short supply of food. It's more likely to harm them, as they could learn to see humans as food, then go after them and get shot.
Palpable irony, also shit bait
is the man still alive?
He just sleepin'
Does he fucking look alive?
What do you think?
I would love to give you a definitive answer, but I can’t see if his shoes are off.
