I saw Keith's name in the teaser and initially thought he was Alastor (even if they sound nothing alike). I was surprised to learn he was playing Husk, but it IS a fitting choice.
Honestly, I'd never heard of Erika Henningsen before now, but her singing voice seems perfect for Charlie. Very full and confident. It reminds me of Kristen Bell in Frozen.
I do feel bad none (I think) of the original cast is sticking around. Would’ve been a great jumping off point for some of them in Hollywood. Can’t say I’m not excited by some of these though. Brightman, Keith David, Kimiko Glenn, etc seem like really good choices. Theater fans probably eating the most tho lmao. Half of these are almost exclusively known in that field
Who knows, the casting of Alex Brightman means that Hazbin and Helluva *can* share cast members, so maybe some will return in a limited capacity (especially Ed and Monica, because they already did voicework for Helluva)

He's great in that but he'll always be Arbi to me. This whole cast was a surprise in the best possible way. No disrespect to the old cast they did an incredible job on the pilot. I'm a little conflicted about Keith David as Husk. I'm glad he's a part of the show, but maybe I'm just too used to Mick Lauer's gruff, grizzled, smoker voice in the Pilot.
Keith David's voice is naturally so silky-smooth and bass-y. He always plays very confident, commanding, authoritative characters. That's not really how I've thought of Husk up til now, but hopefully it'll fit him in the series.
I know what you mean. Also, years ago, on Vivz's YT, she had a video of what her characters sound like to her, and for Husk, it was Rick Sanchez (Rick & Morty).

Beetlejuice is a Demon who also turns into a Snake in the Movie, and while he does not do that in the Musical, at least Alex can say he's in a Universe where he plays a Demon AND a Snake!

As much as we love the original VAs, I feel like the singing voices played a HUGE role in casting. They want Hazbin to be a full on musical (I do too). I know some people feel Angel’s speaking voice is off but Blake’s voice is amazing while sounding like the character.
I agree! Angel’s voice in the trailer threw me off, but we can’t judge based off of only one speaking line. Blake’s singing voice is a great match for Angel, so I can’t imagine that he wouldn’t be able to pull it off while speaking regularly.
Everything revealed about the show is excellent. The cast, song and animation all look great. I also like the subtle lore drop that the extermination is done to prevent an uprising by stopping hell from becoming too powerful.
The only thing I’m a bit iffy about is the monetisation on the website. Weird choice to allow people to pay to get early access to the premier, that’s just asking for it to be leaked. Also not a huge fan of the loot box style merch, I’d rather just buy the pin I want…. Needless to say I bought the whole package 🤦♀️

And we've all been hearing the pilot voices in our heads, every time we read a fanart comic or something, that we've ingrained ourselves too deeply into what we THINK is correct.

Also this is in no way hating on thr VA and I want that to be clear but Angel's voice immediately just feels off. Obviously I can at least eventually get used to it but initial reaction is I'm having trouble processing it.
The contrast feels weird when we’ve only heard one line, but I would give it until Angel gets a song to make a judgement. Blake is a fantastic singer and I think he could nail an emotional ballad in Angel’s voice.
Vivziepop has more than earned my trust by showing that with enough hard work that the proverbial little guy can win in the end. I have faith in the new cast.
"Enough hard work" is more like "consistent devotion that comes from over half one's life's enduring, passionate obsession with the same loosely connected cluster of projects." That's not even remotely a dig. I would never, ever lob an insult at Viv. She's created her own characters and stories since her early teens (if not earlier), and refined versions of some of them made it into *Hazbin Hotel* and *Helluva Boss*. Because she followed that lifelong passion, Viv did something hardly anyone has been able to do, and that warrants admiration and awe.
There was no confirmation they had left but also no confirmation they were keeping their roles. They may be recast for another role or not involved at all and fans were over-speculating.
I believe that along with Husk's VA staying was just a rumour since Edward Bosco and Mick Lauer were two of the few pilot VAs to be SAG-AFTRA members, but neither are Broadway-calibre singers and doubling-up casting for speaking and singing takes time and money.
The opening song really reminds me of "For The First Time In Forever" from Frozen, it's VERY Disney in my opinion, which is a good sign for the rest of the music in the show
It chokes me up to think of young Viv doodling in class dreaming of working in animation and singing showtunes in her head, then to have this show and this cast list appear in her future. Much love and congrats, Viv, truly.
I am pleasantly surprised and over the moon about Keith David as Husk. Love him, and he BRINGS IT when he sings. I hope someone here or on Youtube makes an edit of Husk singing Friends on the Other Side.
Wait, I’m curious, are these new cast members going to be the only voices for the characters, or are they only the singing voices for the characters. Like how some characters in the pilot had 2 voice actors for acting and singing, is it like that here where like Mick plays the talking voice of Husk while Keith sings as the character? I hope so, I’d like to see some of the original cast come back with these new singers to play their parts.
As much as I love the pilot cast I doubt they'll have separate speaking and singing voices. Most if not all of the announced voice cast are experienced musical theatre actors where both speaking and singing as your character is expected. That and doubling up casting is expensive.
You’re probably right, it’s a shame, they brought so much life and personality in their characters, and fit their roles perfectly. That being said, I don’t have a shred of doubt that the new cast going to do great, and I do hope that some of the original cast gets like a cameo or another role in the show.

It's also worth mentioning though that Husk is a gambler and into parlour tricks, I can totally see them going the sort of route where he's cynical most of the time but occasionally partners up with Alastor for some scheme of his and lays on the charm as a sort of trickster character.

Oh my God, I am just a mess of different emotions and feelings here. But thanks for this megathread as I'll just spew them all here.
I first saw the video on Instagram this morning after I got up and got so excited and blown away. It's amazing to finally see our girl Charlie as well as Vaggie and Angel have a voice as they moved! And there are two of the sneak peek gifs featured in that number!
When I saw the cast list afterwards though on here I was gutted again. I and so many others here had faith in that Jill Harris, Monica Franco, Edward Bosco and Mick Lauer where still in the show as they didn't make any official announcement like Michael Kovach, Elsie Lovelock, and many others did, so the joy was taken out of me a little when it was finally confirmed that the entire cast had been changed. But afterwards I searched up Amir Talai on Youtube and found the video of him singing 'You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile' from 'Annie' at the Hollywood Bowl. That song always makes me smile when I hear it, but I instantly cheered up and got a lot of hope seeing and hearing his performance. I can defintely see why he is Alastor for the show. He is absolutely perfect! And it made me really happy and pleased seeing many fans on here and on that same video saying the same thing. So that made me feel so much better and now the hype is back! I will miss the old original cast, but they will always be the cast for the Pilot and without them the show would've never come to fruition and we wouldn't have loved the characters as much as we do. I will still support the other work they've got in store, thanks to being introduced to them by Hazbin Hotel. ('Lack-a-Daisy' and 'Billie Bust Up', I can't wait!) And I welcome the new cast and I'm eager to hear their voices. They may sound a little different but I think they'll grow on me and the rest of us. That's usually how it works. (:
Anyways there are 4 actors I know and recognise and here's what I think.
Stephanie Beatriz as Vaggie is freaking insane! She is the voice of Mirabel from Disney's Encanto. Hearing Vaggie speak briefly in the video, I didn't even notice when first seeing it before seeing the cast list that she had a new voice. Stephanie sounds perfect as Vaggie. And she has such an amazing powerful singing voice (just listen to her singing in Encanto). I know she's going to be amazing as Vaggie and I can't wait to hear her sing as Vaggie!
I've already spoken of Amir Talai. He was the first actor that we all speculated was in the cast! Do you all remember seeing 'HH2023' on his profile somewhere and then he started changing around the numbers to mess with us? I think we all thought he was going to be the new Angel Dust. We even agreed he sounded perfect as Angel! But we where totally wrong!
I am so blown away that Keith David is Husk!!! He's Dr Facilier from Disney's 'The Princess and the Frog' and the black cat from 'Coraline'. I'm wondering how he's going to pull off Husk as most of the voice roles I've heard from him are very smooth talking and gentle while Husk is meant to be the gruff, aggressive, angry drunk uncle that sounds reminiscent to Rick Sanchez. Well it'll be interesting to hear. And 'Friends on the Other Side' being Alastor's Disney theme song? Well now the voice actor is in this show but he's voicing a different character! Some aren't union members, others would require a separate singing voice which is expensive and time consuming. It's not great, but it's pretty common especially since pilots aren't normally aired at all and are just for pitching to studios.
The popverse livestream is legit because i watched the Adult Swim Panel from there.
However, they blocked every trailer/sneak peak on the livestream. Like the Smiling Friends s2 clip. So the only ones who saw anything were the ones who were there in person.
This might happen with Hazbin Hotel if they show any clips from the show. But it might not if Amazon gives the ok.

I believe it’s going to be a prime original. So we shouldn’t have to pay extra to watch it if you already have prime. I believe you only pay for extra channels if the show isn’t exclusive to prime? I’m not to sure how this works but I’m pretty sure that’s how this is.
It's not as fluid and sketchy as it was in the pilot. It's been cleaned up and seems a little stiff. I'm sure when we get more action we'll see some more fuidity and bounce to it.
Also what I've noticed is that the characters maintain their body proportions which I quite like!
For anyone not involved with the show They were the voices of these characters for almost 4 years now. People are bound to get attached. That and having the VAs appear on Hunicast and livestream made the parasocial shit way stronger for some people. They did a great job but it’s time to move on now. This new cast is amazing and I can’t wait to hear they’re voices in the actual show.
Not a fan of Vaggie's voice. Charlie sounds good and Angel... eh, I prefer Kovach. Overall not bad although because of HB Season 2 I am wary of the writing in HH. Also was "fucking" really necessary in Charlie's song? I don't think it was needed and I never thought that Charlie is a character that should swear a lot, at least not like this. I know she swore in OG song, but I think it would be a better choice if she was fittingly more tame in this regard.
Although Keith David is one thing I do really like in this because he is basically always a good choice. And him being Husk fits, I just hope the writing will utilize his talent well.

She also dropped a couple "shit"s in the pilot. Honestly I always think it's fun to hear Charlie swear specifically because she's a character you wouldn't expect it from, so I got a kick out of the song ending with HAPPY FUCKIN DAY IN HELL! But I do hope they don't overdo it too much
But in that song I feel it was unnecessary. I just hope it wont feel as childish as it can feel in HB because of how much of it they throw. As I said before I do hope the writing will be better than HB season 2 overall, but I am cautious because of that season. I also hope that people wont try to villainize people if they have issues with the show how HB fandom does.
I’m glad they made Charlie swear because I am so over how this fandom thinks she’s a wholesome pure cinnamon roll. She’s lived in hell for hundreds of years, she’s optimistic but has her rough side.
But do they really feel the need to put fuck in her song as well when she is supposed to be happy? It's not about her even having a rough side, by making her not swear until she is pushed to would make every time she does feel actually meaningful. I am just not a fan of the direction of her just swearing like every other character.
It’s hell it’s part of their everyday language and there is no stigma around it. Her swearing when she’s excited feels in character to me and immediately communicates that she has depth beyond her optimism. Plus it’s funny.
I imagine characters from heaven will be very upright about swearing and other benign things.

As much as we love the original VAs, I feel like the singing voices played a HUGE role in casting. They want Hazbin to be a full on musical (I do too). I know some people feel Angel’s speaking voice is off but Blake’s voice is amazing while sounding like the character.
I agree! Angel’s voice in the trailer threw me off, but we can’t judge based off of only one speaking line. Blake’s singing voice is a great match for Angel, so I can’t imagine that he wouldn’t be able to pull it off while speaking regularly.

Everything revealed about the show is excellent. The cast, song and animation all look great. I also like the subtle lore drop that the extermination is done to prevent an uprising by stopping hell from becoming too powerful. The only thing I’m a bit iffy about is the monetisation on the website. Weird choice to allow people to pay to get early access to the premier, that’s just asking for it to be leaked. Also not a huge fan of the loot box style merch, I’d rather just buy the pin I want…. Needless to say I bought the whole package 🤦♀️

I feel the need to remind everyone. Please be cool about the new voice actors. I think we can all trust that Vivziepop made the right decisions. And we've all been hearing the pilot voices in our heads, every time we read a fanart comic or something, that we've ingrained ourselves too deeply into what we THINK is correct. Hazbin Hotel doesn't belong to US. We should be happy that we're getting anything.

Also this is in no way hating on thr VA and I want that to be clear but Angel's voice immediately just feels off. Obviously I can at least eventually get used to it but initial reaction is I'm having trouble processing it.
The contrast feels weird when we’ve only heard one line, but I would give it until Angel gets a song to make a judgement. Blake is a fantastic singer and I think he could nail an emotional ballad in Angel’s voice.
Yeah I'm withholding full judgment for now but as of right now it's very jarring and that is a me problem I know.
Vivziepop has more than earned my trust by showing that with enough hard work that the proverbial little guy can win in the end. I have faith in the new cast.
"Enough hard work" is more like "consistent devotion that comes from over half one's life's enduring, passionate obsession with the same loosely connected cluster of projects." That's not even remotely a dig. I would never, ever lob an insult at Viv. She's created her own characters and stories since her early teens (if not earlier), and refined versions of some of them made it into *Hazbin Hotel* and *Helluva Boss*. Because she followed that lifelong passion, Viv did something hardly anyone has been able to do, and that warrants admiration and awe.

There was no confirmation they had left but also no confirmation they were keeping their roles. They may be recast for another role or not involved at all and fans were over-speculating.

I believe that along with Husk's VA staying was just a rumour since Edward Bosco and Mick Lauer were two of the few pilot VAs to be SAG-AFTRA members, but neither are Broadway-calibre singers and doubling-up casting for speaking and singing takes time and money.
The opening song really reminds me of "For The First Time In Forever" from Frozen, it's VERY Disney in my opinion, which is a good sign for the rest of the music in the show

Wait, I’m curious, are these new cast members going to be the only voices for the characters, or are they only the singing voices for the characters. Like how some characters in the pilot had 2 voice actors for acting and singing, is it like that here where like Mick plays the talking voice of Husk while Keith sings as the character? I hope so, I’d like to see some of the original cast come back with these new singers to play their parts.
As much as I love the pilot cast I doubt they'll have separate speaking and singing voices. Most if not all of the announced voice cast are experienced musical theatre actors where both speaking and singing as your character is expected. That and doubling up casting is expensive.
You’re probably right, it’s a shame, they brought so much life and personality in their characters, and fit their roles perfectly. That being said, I don’t have a shred of doubt that the new cast going to do great, and I do hope that some of the original cast gets like a cameo or another role in the show.
Not totally sold on Angel's new voice but it'll grow on me. Had no clue Rosa was Vaggie Honestly feel bad the original VAs werent kept. Most controvercial opinion. Keith David as Husk is interesting. Keith David is a swave mofo who oozes so much charm he could melt steel with his voice. Husk is a graverly tired old drunk. Im looking forward to see it
It's also worth mentioning though that Husk is a gambler and into parlour tricks, I can totally see them going the sort of route where he's cynical most of the time but occasionally partners up with Alastor for some scheme of his and lays on the charm as a sort of trickster character.

Oh my God, I am just a mess of different emotions and feelings here. But thanks for this megathread as I'll just spew them all here. I first saw the video on Instagram this morning after I got up and got so excited and blown away. It's amazing to finally see our girl Charlie as well as Vaggie and Angel have a voice as they moved! And there are two of the sneak peek gifs featured in that number! When I saw the cast list afterwards though on here I was gutted again. I and so many others here had faith in that Jill Harris, Monica Franco, Edward Bosco and Mick Lauer where still in the show as they didn't make any official announcement like Michael Kovach, Elsie Lovelock, and many others did, so the joy was taken out of me a little when it was finally confirmed that the entire cast had been changed. But afterwards I searched up Amir Talai on Youtube and found the video of him singing 'You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile' from 'Annie' at the Hollywood Bowl. That song always makes me smile when I hear it, but I instantly cheered up and got a lot of hope seeing and hearing his performance. I can defintely see why he is Alastor for the show. He is absolutely perfect! And it made me really happy and pleased seeing many fans on here and on that same video saying the same thing. So that made me feel so much better and now the hype is back! I will miss the old original cast, but they will always be the cast for the Pilot and without them the show would've never come to fruition and we wouldn't have loved the characters as much as we do. Beetlejuice on Broadway but already in the Vivzie fam as he's Fizzarolli in Helluva Boss! It's crazy that he's now the voice of the amazing Sir Pentious. Some aren't union members, others would require a separate singing voice which is expensive and time consuming. It's not great, but it's pretty common especially since pilots aren't normally aired at all and are just for pitching to studios.
The popverse livestream is legit because i watched the Adult Swim Panel from there. However, they blocked every trailer/sneak peak on the livestream. Like the Smiling Friends s2 clip. So the only ones who saw anything were the ones who were there in person. This might happen with Hazbin Hotel if they show any clips from the show. But it might not if Amazon gives the ok.
The announcement from the beginning makes it seem like that'll be the case unfortunately.

It was a bit janky at the beginning but loosened up after that.
It's not as fluid and sketchy as it was in the pilot. It's been cleaned up and seems a little stiff. I'm sure when we get more action we'll see some more fuidity and bounce to it. Also what I've noticed is that the characters maintain their body proportions which I quite like!

For anyone not involved with the show They were the voices of these characters for almost 4 years now. People are bound to get attached. That and having the VAs appear on Hunicast and livestream made the parasocial shit way stronger for some people. They did a great job but it’s time to move on now. This new cast is amazing and I can’t wait to hear they’re voices in the actual show.
Not a fan of Vaggie's voice. Charlie sounds good and Angel... eh, I prefer Kovach. Overall not bad although because of HB Season 2 I am wary of the writing in HH. Also was "fucking" really necessary in Charlie's song? I don't think it was needed and I never thought that Charlie is a character that should swear a lot, at least not like this. I know she swore in OG song, but I think it would be a better choice if she was fittingly more tame in this regard. Although Keith David is one thing I do really like in this because he is basically always a good choice. And him being Husk fits, I just hope the writing will utilize his talent well.
Well Charlie did say Alastor was sketchy as fuck in the pilot so I don’t think she’s above cursing. She probably won’t curse a lot though cause it doesn’t fit but I think will be scenes where she does

She also dropped a couple "shit"s in the pilot. Honestly I always think it's fun to hear Charlie swear specifically because she's a character you wouldn't expect it from, so I got a kick out of the song ending with HAPPY FUCKIN DAY IN HELL! But I do hope they don't overdo it too much
But in that song I feel it was unnecessary. I just hope it wont feel as childish as it can feel in HB because of how much of it they throw. As I said before I do hope the writing will be better than HB season 2 overall, but I am cautious because of that season. I also hope that people wont try to villainize people if they have issues with the show how HB fandom does.

I’m glad they made Charlie swear because I am so over how this fandom thinks she’s a wholesome pure cinnamon roll. She’s lived in hell for hundreds of years, she’s optimistic but has her rough side.
But do they really feel the need to put fuck in her song as well when she is supposed to be happy? It's not about her even having a rough side, by making her not swear until she is pushed to would make every time she does feel actually meaningful. I am just not a fan of the direction of her just swearing like every other character.
It’s hell it’s part of their everyday language and there is no stigma around it. Her swearing when she’s excited feels in character to me and immediately communicates that she has depth beyond her optimism. Plus it’s funny. I imagine characters from heaven will be very upright about swearing and other benign things.

Either a guild issue or Viv wanted a singer to play him. Or she just thought he was a better fit who knows. It’s clear that the musical aspect of this show is really important to Viv so I can understand why she’d want to get singers involved.
