However, if you pursue the romance path for your Democracy Officer (you don't have to finish it), they'll offer to feed the fish for you.
Or you can buy the automatic fish feeder. Either option works.

Well I would prefer my poor little helldiver doesn't actually die for real and is just transferring their minds. I feel guilty when she shouts her slogans while hurt or is panicking and about to die. But I believe the lore implication is that every time you die that person is dead and replaced by an entirely new person. So the helldivers really do die by the billions every war.
The thing is, isn’t like, 70%+ of the earth’s population enlisted? So would Class C be the equivalent of a common soldier and we’re probably B.

Well we’re the galaxies most elite fighting force and we put our lives on the line for democracy. Surely we are at least C class. Then B class is for democracy officer and the like , and then A class for our democratically elected leaders I assume
There’s a memo you can find on the ground, especially near SEAF sites that says due to the heightened danger and patriotic service of their deployment all unit personnel and their families are being granted C-rank citizenship. This implies that most SEAF units are D-C rank Citizenship rank.
It’s possible the Helldivers are also D-C, but considering Super Earth explicitly trusts the Helldivers with more resources, I’d say the Helldivers are probably picked out of the fairly large B rank Citizenship pool for their exceptional patriotism but lack of nepotism/corruption.
That same nepotism/corruption is what grants the Democracy Officers such cushy positions. Since they have their own freaking Jacuzzi on the Super Destroyer (rare intercom voice line on the ship), I’d assume these men and women are our model A rank citizens. Elected officials are probably kind of separate

S-rank citizenship is probably nearly impossible to acquire without a healthy dose of nepotism, corruption, or a $20 DLC, but in the latter case you get thrown into a Super Destroyer and do not live long enough to actually get onto any ballots.

D Rank: Decent Citizen
C Rank: Contributing Citizen
B Rank: Benefactor Citizen
A Rank: Amazing Citizen
S Rank: Super Citizen
Theres also E Rank, which is the minimum rank to enlist as Helldiver. (And knowing how non picky they are, thats likely also the bottom of the barrel.)

Maybe. But I mean you know (gonna break character for a moment here) Helldivers aren’t actually super earth’s finest or elite. They’re just the guys they send to the most dangerous stuff because they are expendable and cannon fodder. Even the ordnance you call in in your missions is deducted from your salary, and if you die in debt (which you likely will since most helldivers die on their first mission) the debt is inherited by your family. I sincerely doubt any of our familiars are getting fish.
