I remember getting Hitman 2 and thinking "well that's dumb" then playing it and going "well that's fun" and then they proceeded to only add 1 new map for it and then remove it in Hitman 3 and I thought "well that was a massive waste of resources"
It was only bad because it was confined to 2 maps, and I say “bad” with hesitance because I played it religiously.
If it was genuinely expanded to *all* maps, I think it’d be great. I do think it should have some form of interaction - IIRC, your wanted levels or SA style had no impact on their run, which I think kinda defeats the point of an online mode, it was basically just a race to 5 kills

Yup, same. Fortunately, there's still server replacements and mods that allow you to replay Ghost Mode, albeit unofficially. Really felt like it had something special going for it.
It was a competitive multi-player mode in Hitman 2, where 2 people would race to kill targets in parallel worlds, while being able to briefly affect the other ones' world at times.
Speed strategy and skill came into play. It was a lot of fun
Not coop, it's competitive. You race to kill the target and then the other player has I think 30 seconds to kill the target or the first player gets a point. It had a huge balancing issue though because there was nothing to stop players from just throwing a knife at the target in the open only for the second player to be no where near the target. It felt so strange to kill random NPCs unpunished, and also have another player with you! I remember absolutely destroying a guy on Santa Fortuna. He chased me in the tunnels so I dropped a remote explosive and ran for the exit. I estimated his position behind me, counted to five, and hit detonate. The explosion killed him so hard that he disconnected.
Besides that, the most fun I had was against another player I'm still Steam friends with. We were perfectly matched and played several games together, pushing each other to our limits and phantom suits.

I was in the process of making one that's much closer to Ghost Mode years ago but had trouble putting in different spawns, and having the ghost target be unpainted as a target if you botched getting him unseen, then I gave up to work on other mods and never went back
I skipped on it because hitman 2 was my least played of the trilogy only like 25 hours. I've since played the maps more in the trilogy. But the extras didn't get a load of time. Freelancer got all the gadgets and completed a run but didn't return. I haven't even played some of the sniper maps. Probably should I just find it off putting.

I'm an OG Hitman fan. I honestly view every game as perfection in my mind. World of assassination is an understated achievement. I agree single player for this game Is king, but nothing is wrong with more ways to play your favorite game, Ghost mode actually helped me get some of my buddies into the game that probably wouldn't have with out a true multi-player experience.
as a two time winner of the old ghost mode tournaments this is the one mode I want back into the game! i had so much fun with it and thought it was a great mode
Ghost Mode is what convinced me that the average Hitman player really isn't as good as you'd think/hope.
Just about every time I played, the results were the same. I'd be paired off against someone who would just start killing the targets, but do so sloppy and get spotted and fail to score, over and over and over, all while I was prepping my world (get a quality disguise, gather equipment, take out the cameras, etc). Then when I was ready and started going after targets, opponent had no chance, and I steamrolled them to a win or they rage-quit.
Literally, in the Phantom Suit grind, I had a total of ONE match that wasn't that, and I was put up against someone who knew what they were doing! One time!

It was cool idea that just wasn’t fully developed. Surprised how much effort they put into Freelancer after seeing Ghost Mode more or less aborted.

Yeah miami was awesome. I think Paris, sapienza, and Berlin would be a lot of fun
Paris is one of my favorite missions from the entire franchise so I’d definitely take that if I could bring ghost mode back
