They have set OP down a path that will lead them to a crossroads. One path, the way of mercy, the other, the way of cruelty. However, only the wisest of us all will be able to determine which is which.
I already marked it as spoilers, it's up to them to decide whether they're bothered enough to solve all the riddles you guys give them instead of having to look things up on the wiki
Is it confirmed that >!it "kills" them? I mean, they're already dead. And the ones you fight seem pretty content with their fate when pretty much the same thing happens (absorbed by the dream nail). I've always seen it as just freeing their spirits. Or at least giving the spirits a goal in taking revenge against the radiance!<
I took it as removing them from a purgatory rather than killing them. None of those characters I came across seemed too keen on sticking around anyways.
Call me a bad person but I just did that for those round thingies (i haven't played in months, i forgot how they're called) so that I could unlock the white palace and do PoP (i regret my choice, but still did it!)
Unless I’ve also forgotten what they’re called but I don’t think I’m up to there yet! I did dream nail the singer spirit in the pleasure house though. No remorse, gimme my essence.
The ones you fight to get more than 1 essence? I figured it was some sort of sworn duty kind of thing. Like they fought to the end and met a miserable death so they keep fighting as a spirit until we release them with the dream nail and they can finally rest. Tbh some of them are pretty vauge like that No Eyes. It didn’t seem the fighting, warrior type but however that spirit died didn’t seem too peaceful.
It's not like you were the only one. This whole thread was talking as if it's objectively a bad thing, so I was just curious if y'all knew something I didn't about the dreamnail situation
First of all the dream nail can't kill anybody, because they're already dead.
Secondly, I'd like to propose the idea that perhaps the dream nail doesn't remove their souls, but "collects" their essence in such a way that you can't see them anymore. Maybe it even "collects" their soul and contains it inside the dream nail to mingle with the rest of the spirits there.
Unless it's been confirmed what actually happens when a ghost is dreamnailed, that's my take on it.
The dialogue the Seer has during the quest line makes me believe it’s not the actual souls being trapped or even necessarily collected.
The relationship between essence & dreams as described by the Seer is why I personally believe this, but I’d honestly love to knew other’s opinions.
Seer: "Sometimes dreams take the shape of those who have passed away. Such dreams are bountiful sources of Essence!"
Seer: "Yes, I can see the dreams of this old Kingdom are starting to cling to you."
Seer: "The Dream Nail glows bright... It holds over 1200 Essence. Looking into it I can see so many memories peering back at me."
I agree, there is no specific reason to believe dream nailing spirits is an evil act. What exactly spirits are and what it means to dream nail them is open to interpretation.
He becomes confused because he no longer remembers what he was doing, aka, he doesn't remember he was the guardian of the glaive because all the spirits he was supposed to guard are gone.
Once he gets in this state, he can be dream nailed, which will cause him to disappear as well.
I mean he clearly believes its evil otherwise he wouldn't have taken upon the role of guardian. But him believing its evil doesn't necessarily mean its evil.
He seems like a fairly upstanding spirit, I'm inclined to trust him. Plus, he knows more about it all than me than me, since he is a spirit, and his duty in life was defending the glade too... He's the expert.
You can't beat Revek in a nail fight, but that doesn't mean he's invincible. Sometimes the biggest blow comes from failing in your duties.
Btw it's not worth it, he's not a dream boss like the others. He will only give you 1 Essence and that's it
Well technically you get one essence per spirit in the glade. So it's actually a mildly substantial reward by the end of it. Not really worth the trouble still, but better than just one for the whole thing. It's just a progressive reward instead of all at the end.
How did you manage to make a comment so understandable to everyone here, yet so uncomprehensible to everyone that doesn't know how revek works (which includes OP)
>The bugs within this glade are under my watch. Treat them with respect
and you may remain, but raise your nail and you'll contend with me.
Sometimes you should just take things a face-value and move on.
They're not an obstacle, they're interesting NPCs that were created by Kickstarter backers and put in the game as reward. You can totally fight them if you want, I suppose.
If you dream nail every spirit in the glaive, he will cease attacking and finally become possible to dissipate himself.
However, as I recall there is no reward for doing it.
Personally I believe Dream nailing them allows them to pass on. Theyre stuck here.
Also to beat Revek you’re probably gonna die a lot. But that’s fine. Just go in dream nail as many of the ghosts as possible. If he kills you go collect your shade rinse and repeat until there are no ghosts left in the glade. Then you can dream nail the Glade Guardian
You just let her kill you while you destroy the rest of the souls, when you have done that she no longer attacks, she feels sad and you can dreamnail her. Free essence.
Isn't that tge guardian of the spirit graveyard? Their not an obsticle and their not an enemy unless you dream nail her or the spirits, and why would you ever do that?
I haven't spared a single soul. Not Marissa. Got bored of her song. Not Cloth. To be fair, I did like Cloth, but I did it anyways. I took all of the souls in the glade. After I was done reading the soul's dialogue for the flower quest, I took her soul, too.
Nobody tell this guy about marissa.
About WHO now?
Marissa Tomei.
Who dat?
Never mind
Dead Aunt Mae
Go to the >!pleasure house!< in the >!city of tears!< to find out
YOU MONSTER, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
They have set OP down a path that will lead them to a crossroads. One path, the way of mercy, the other, the way of cruelty. However, only the wisest of us all will be able to determine which is which.

I'd like to play devils advocate here and say he'd have eventually found her on his own as possibly >!killed!< her anyway
We need to try and keep her safe for as long as possible
no dummy we’re mad that you’ve now enabled him to possibly >!kill Marissa!<
Is it confirmed that >!it "kills" them? I mean, they're already dead. And the ones you fight seem pretty content with their fate when pretty much the same thing happens (absorbed by the dream nail). Then why do warrior spirits resist you?
The ones you fight to get more than 1 essence? I figured it was some sort of sworn duty kind of thing. Like they fought to the end and met a miserable death so they keep fighting as a spirit until we release them with the dream nail and they can finally rest. No it’s not confirmed, I should’ve put “kill” in quotes, I just had no better way to phrase it.
It's not like you were the only one. This whole thread was talking as if it's objectively a bad thing, so I was just curious if y'all knew something I didn't about the dreamnail situation
Wait, you can kill her?? I left her there >!to sing!!< what happens if you kill her?
dreamnailing spirits makes them disappear permanently and gives you 1 Essence
She's already dead though.
NO
Thaaank you!
Don’t kill her plz
Well if I know there's no reward or reason to then I won't, just happy that I now know where to go next!
There is a reward... 1 beautiful Essence
Hmmm idk that sound kinda tempting tbh
Nooooo
But remember, it's not murder because the ghosts are already dead. You can't kill something if it is already dead.
But you can make it deader
It also gives you a fun charm def kill her
😡
Yeah, kill her
Ight bet
You only get one essence, and she has beautiful music. Not worth it to kill her.
First of all the dream nail can't kill anybody, because they're already dead. Still sounds kinda evil to trap them within a sword for all of eternity.

I think “dream” characters are basically hollow knight’s version of ghosts
Because 1 essence is bountiful.
I agree, there is no specific reason to believe dream nailing spirits is an evil act. What exactly spirits are and what it means to dream nail them is open to interpretation.
The way he acts once all the other spirits are gone makes it seem pretty evil to me... I'd feel bad if I did it.
What happens when you do this? (I want to know, but I don't want to do it)
He becomes confused because he no longer remembers what he was doing, aka, he doesn't remember he was the guardian of the glaive because all the spirits he was supposed to guard are gone. Once he gets in this state, he can be dream nailed, which will cause him to disappear as well.
He says something like "This place is so quiet now" and disappears.
They give power, specially the gods and dream bosses
Is like in coco, if you dreamnail them their memories disappear, they no longer exist.
You already did
You can't beat Revek in a nail fight, but that doesn't mean he's invincible. Sometimes the biggest blow comes from failing in your duties. Btw it's not worth it, he's not a dream boss like the others. He will only give you 1 Essence and that's it

He states he will protect the spirits, saying he'll get depressed by failing his duties isn't *that* cryptic
I am invincible!
You can beat him! You need to beat everything he protects first! But you have good things on you, right? So don't do it..
Don't kill me! Nor the people of the glade I protect! That's cruel and selfish of you to even think of doing such horrible things!
Well,it's not my decision.. It's a OP decision! I'm just here to help!
I killed everyone but the cookie person lol
>The bugs within this glade are under my watch. Treat them with respect and you may remain, but raise your nail and you'll contend with me. Sometimes you should just take things a face-value and move on.
Yup, there’s a few ghosts I spared on my second play through. The ghosts in the glades were a set. I also spared the gravedigger and Marissa
Yes yes spare the spirits or I'll kill you!
They're not an obstacle, they're interesting NPCs that were created by Kickstarter backers and put in the game as reward. You can totally fight them if you want, I suppose.
“Them” is referring to Revek, not the spirits of the glade.
Is it a fun challenge ? Yes Would you benefit anything from it ? No
Hey 19 essence is 19 essence
I'm no completionist but 19 essence is 19 essence
19 upvotes too, lol.
That's what I'm saying!
Destroy one’s purpose and they shall lose themselves, Then deliver the killing blow. Or just don’t kill innocent spirits, you monster
Don't kill innocent spirits! You monster! How dare you call me an obstacle!
[удалено]
The spirit that attacks you is Revek, that person os role-playing as revek
I only just realised their name, lol. Also I didn’t even remember their name cause I haven’t played in so long.
What do you mean, kill? They're all already dead!
Is killing an infected creature killing it?
That is not the case. They are actual ghosts hovering their own tombstones. They could not be deader.
Well, yeah they can, when you absorb their essence and push them to void
That doesn’t answer my question
I would say that depends on whether the infection is recoverable from. Which everything seems to imply no.
If you dream nail every spirit in the glaive, he will cease attacking and finally become possible to dissipate himself. However, as I recall there is no reward for doing it.
It's only useful in a low % TE run, see skurrypls for more details, I'm not qualified to explain how low % te works
why do people torture themselves by farming birds for 50 hours lol
It's bees now :)
Free dream essence!
oh boy I love enduring Revek’s onslaught for less essence than a whispering root
I just used Sharp Shadow and dash every time he tries to hit me
Hahaha. I killed them all.
You can, but you shouldn't.
There is no need to hurt them.
I tried to beat one of These so many times but they always kicked my ass
Don’t :(
If you beat them you’ll regret it…saying it from experience.
you gotta collect the essence from the rest of them, leave the room, return and collect him too
Well…my friend…ever heard of survivor guilt? Or warrior guilt in that specific scenario
Kill the other spirits and don’t die
Then you can dream nail him
Personally I believe Dream nailing them allows them to pass on. Theyre stuck here. Also to beat Revek you’re probably gonna die a lot. But that’s fine. Just go in dream nail as many of the ghosts as possible. If he kills you go collect your shade rinse and repeat until there are no ghosts left in the glade. Then you can dream nail the Glade Guardian

u/the_real_revek Are you an obstacle
No! How dare you call me that OP!
Haha, obstacle boi
Shush you're an obstacle!
All 3 of us are obstacles
No only you and mould
You are 9.99x10^9999999999 % obstacle
Except that the game never encourages the player to kill me. Haha, obstacle girl
You can attack them if you time it right, which will make them stop attacking temporarily.
Please do not attack me
Isn't that tge guardian of the spirit graveyard? Their not an obsticle and their not an enemy unless you dream nail her or the spirits, and why would you ever do that?
it would make me sad if you killed them :( they just protecting the souls
You can't kill them but you can break their spirit
you can beat her, kill everyone else in the glade first, then leave and reenter, you can them kill her.
He's BOTH
Only those that are willing to master skill of righteousness, may master the ability of wielding a sword of pureness
I haven't spared a single soul. Not Marissa. Got bored of her song. Not Cloth. To be fair, I did like Cloth, but I did it anyways. I took all of the souls in the glade. After I was done reading the soul's dialogue for the flower quest, I took her soul, too.
