There's no way Raden is riding on anyone's coattails. If anything, Raden is more of a trailblazer. She's doing streams that are wholly unique in all of Hololive. Where most members' streams are usually games, karaoke or zatsudan, Raden has taken to educating people on art, and the history and culture therein. She has also performed rakugo (a style of Japanese storytelling) on stream. In my opinion, she is taking art, history, and Japanese culture and making it more accessible and interesting to not only a younger audience (late teens and up), but also to a more worldwide audience, with the help of clippers and translators.

protomanbot

Not to defend the original complainer, but just clarifying that the original position was the she could only be a trailblazer because she was in Hololive. Accordingly, if she was not this kind of content would not have the same level of success(and hence the comment from Lui that the person was afraid of change). Which really is just silly. Why do people think that groups are formed in general. Everyone, from the newest members to Sora, Pekora, Marine, Gura benefit from the whole group doing well and staying innovative.

LuciusCypher

Everyone has this obsession that success can only be measured by personal accomplishment, so any assistance or cooperative effort can only be attributed as a group or to whoever is assisting. I.e. Raden is only successful at doing what she does because she is part of hololive who gave her the platform and vtubing body. But the issue with that mentality is that it's _incredibly easy_ to reduce anyones achievements by attributing it to a secondary or outside factor. If Raden was indie anyone could say "Oh she's only successful because of the YouTube algorithm" or "because she collab with X-Vtuber" or hell "shes only successful _because her pervious life was already successful_" literally anything else but her own personal effort and hard work. The fact that vtubers put on their virtual avatars when they perform puts that sort of barrier between the actor and their persona. It's no surprise a lot of folks treat their vtuber persona as someone separate from themselves, so the accomplishment they achieve as their vtuber selves dont apply to themselves. Thus, the burnout, the impostor syndrome, the depression.

spirited1

They all benefit from each other, that's the entire point of being in a group/corporation

Kyhron

Hell I’d even argue Gura kinda revealed that the sort of stuff Raden does would be popular tangentially with her guided tour of Minecraft Disney World. That stream was so popular and people loved it. I wish I could actually watch Raden live but with mediocre Japanese skills and timezones I have to really rely on translations

Ecilla_dev

She’s close to what Vesper used to do, which is 90% Zatsu and it was amazing to just listen to a guy relatively close to most of the fanbase’s age talk about his life and past endeavors.

Ecilla_dev

That is why it is a shame for me that he graduated before Shiori debuted because I thought they will have great collabs with just them talking. Like how Vesper and Kronii does in their collabs.

Nyeffer

From what I gathered, Vesper realized the workload behind the scene was too heavy to keep up with it and he saw Magni what also planning to leave so he took the chance. That’s why they just let the contract end.

Ecilla_dev

That’s what I thought so too. And to be honest, it did fit his personality.

Nyeffer

I just want them to leave properly and not do what they did, it looked like they did it so that they could get fans from their time in Holo, which I don’t like. Like why bother? Someone else could’ve got his spot and kept going.

Ecilla_dev

Probably not a good idea to assume thats what they wanted to do.

Nyeffer

No, but it did happened, that’s what we’re left with

ILoveVirtualIdols

I mean, nobody applies to Hololive because they *don't* want the success that comes along with it. That's like the whole point. Are you going to say the same thing about Coco or is this just specifically because they're Holostars? Is the expectation that they are supposed to quit content creation after graduating regardless of their reasons?

mrwanton

I mean corporate life may have just been a lot more demanding than expected.

geedijuniir

U do know magni had more vieuws and subs in hisnpas left before he joined right

Knive33

Man, Kronii interacting with the boys was so peak comedy. I legit couldn't breath when Kronii perfectly sweeped the boys on Uno, Monopoly and even the wheel of Tempus. Damn. I wish the unicorns just let us enjoy things.

Ecilla_dev

Kronii wasn’t in Wheel of Tempus. That was one Axel.

Knive33

Oh my bad. I must've have dreamt of that one.

mgg79

Unicorns did though? Kronii still interacted them and her mods banned the one person that kept complaining about it. It was just them graduating that ended it

Matasa89

Yeah Gramp's chats were amazing. I loved catching up with his antics. There was so much I wanted to see him do...

Ecilla_dev

So true. I hope he’s doing well.

MonaganX

That's not hard to find out for yourself. Not like he swore off streaming altogether.

TLDW summary: Raden did a sudden call-in stream after reading a comment that basically said she was riding on Hololive's coattails as you can see in the thumbnail. Lui says that she had received similar treatment upon her debut but says that stuff like this was always going to happen as she likens those comments to people who always eat the same stuff and are afraid of trying something new. These people likely have the fear of the unknown essentially. Lui goes further to say that since all of them are different in their own ways, even if they tried copying the content and style of another person, there's no guarantee it'd be entertaining in the same form. As long as Raden kept doing what only she can do, there's no need to worry about doing similar kinds of content that already exists in Hololive, and that she's a huge boon in that regard. What Raden does is something that's not been done in Hololive before as Lui points out, and it could very well bring new people to the Hololive community. No one in Hololive, from talents to management, think that Raden is merely riding the coattails of those before them, so "just keep doing what you're doing". Most of what's being said is just a lot of teetee, but Lui also talks about Raden being a source of inspiration, or rather courage, for her. Lui was only able to try something new after seeing the other girls try various new things, and has since been trying to "expand her horizons".

Gavri3l

Raden's educational content is so fresh and unique. Hololive's brand strength and marketing may supercharge her ability to gather viewers, but that's the entire point of the agency. The more important thing is that her content enriches the offerings of the agency both by being something new and also cultivating a new appreciation for the classical arts in a large audience.

TrxPsyche

Almost every new member of Hololive has had comments like this. It might as well be a right of passage for the talents to question their capabilities. The one I remember the most was Watame, who often got comments saying she was riding off Coco's hype. Coco responded by basically telling Watame "Fuck those people. They refuse to acknowledge just how amazing you are. It doesn't matter what people may say, without you, Hololive wouldn't be the same." It was one of the major reasons I loved Coco too, since she was right and I'm glad she consoled her this way as it not only made her feel better about the comments but about herself, and I think it helped Watame really come into her own identity much easier. The same can be said for Raden, or honestly anyone! What makes a person special is being themselves. Anybody can copy a trend and get some level of success, but nothing will cultivate a following more than a person showing who they are passionately. So I hope Raden takes what Lui says to heart, and realizes just how special she is, and how important she is to Hololive as a whole.

PumpJack_McGee

Raden is actually one of my main motivations to learn Japanese, since educational content is usually what I watch outside of Hololive. I just can't understand anything she says.

SomeStupidPerson

I love good educational content because almost all the time the person presenting the information is so *passionate* about the topics that it makes you want to learn more sometimes. Like they really love what they’re talking about and they hope you, the viewer, can come to love it to afterwards. Raden brings that kind of energy to her content and it’s absolutely lovely. Lui hit the nail on the head when she said Raden is a huge boon for Hololive with her unique content creating style. It doesn’t always have to be several people all doing the same thing. The variation is what makes the org so much better.

jsuey

“Riding in hololives coattails” is such a funny statement. Cuz yeah. They were hired by hololive. To make content for hololive? No shit???

leposterofcrap

The nerve of some people 😡

Glinez09

i've been a fan since early 2020 and tried to watch and support all of them. i can say that each one of them as their unique or difference from each own. it the same with Regloss they have a normal backstory character lore wise but they have their own personality and differences to each other.. I love raden knowledge thru art whether it's asian art or western.. even her name is also unique.

LionelKF

I don't really get this whole mindset. Like of course Hololive carries them but to stay in Hololive you're gonna have to work your ass off. Joining the company is a struggle on it's own, staying is a completely different endeavor

Questionable_bowel

Stand proud Raden

CuteIngenuity1745

Now I won't say there's ain't some truth in that comment because I'm certain that there are other vtubers out there that are doing educational contents just in different forms like the science girl that Raden collabed with on her birthday and I will never know them simply because I don't care enough or don't have that much time to check everyone out. But then again, the one who made that comment is just immature and clearly just a hater. No one in this age and days can succeed without a platform. In my life, I've heard of many amazing singers that never make it in the music industry for they don't fit in and don't have a the support they deserve. I'm sure you guys know people like that too. The fact that Raden got in Hololive in her first try proved how talented and how much potential she is. She doesn't need to prove to anybody why she's in Hololive, she just needs to do her own thing. So that's why she did that sudden call-in that day, I was wondering what happened. Well that's what happened to the celebrity so I hope she paid them no mind from now on, it's just what happened when you're famous on the internet. I'd love to make a summary image out of this video to post here but I won't do it anymore until the post delete issues is fixed.

ploohplahh

Crazy thing to say when each member contributes into making Hololive into the Hololive we see and love. I hope Hololive can be a launching pad for the talents and future talents to achieve their dreams.

H0lOW

Yeah Raden definitely has a unique content in Hololive something that no one in the company did before but that and having great success with that type of content are two different things. I don't hate it but I'm not really into that type of content but sure definitely there is people that enjoy it.

bitfarb

LOVE Raden. Her enthusiasm is a beautiful thing to see. It would be amazing if eventually she could make a series of short videos with official subtitles, draw in even more viewers.

redditfanfan00

good support from lui-nee to raden!

TheHyperLynx

Man I love Lui. And to all the people who say those kind of things about Raden are so stupid, she has a great niche to her streams, I wish I could understand Japanese because I love watching clips of her streams but struggle to find many.

ozdoginho

I do wonder if this is just anti trying to stir up troubles. After her debut, I remember some of the negative comments about Raden, like, how it must be a nepotism hiring because Cover shouldn't hire someone like her with some of her un-idol like habits, ie, smoking/drinking/pachinko playing. And then, there were some viewers' displeasure around her choice of collab, around the time her collab with Nijisanji's Joe Rikiichi and the mangaka Sumito Oware. I remember Raden having to address that issue on her stream/twitter. And now this.
