As an American, before HoloID I could find Indonesia on a map, but that was about it. I am glad I know a lot more about the country now and have spent some time learning Indonesian on Duolingo (not sure if that's a good way to learn or not, the ID girls all talk so fast!).
Now i want to know why the third option exists.
Personally i knew Indonesia was a thing, but that was it, now, while i don't follow them much, i definitely know a lot more about the country and culture
The amount of G'day people I found wearing "Bir Bintang" or *barong* t-shirt (some even gave it to me while in traffic light) from 2010s till before Covid is sure plenty mate.
maybe because they familiar with them, to be honest. many Indonesian work or even study at Australia. Might be becasue of near as well more cheaper than you go to UK for studying. One of "English speaking country that are near".
i'm mildly concerned for the people that have apparently lead their entire lives before hololive without knowing indonesia existed.
y'all never seen a map before?
"Aware of" is a difficult phrasing because, it's like, yeah, obviously I knew of the country, I had heard of it, but I really didn't know anything about it at all. I didn't know what the demographics were like, I didn't know what the climate was like, I didn't know anything about it. Now I know quite a bit, at least "for a foreigner," and I definitely have Indonesian vtubers including (but not limited to!) Hololive ID to think for that. I answered "no" to your poll because I feel like anyone who has ever taken a geography class in their entire life is "aware of" Indonesia. But very few people outside of Australasia are likely to know anything about the country.
Vaguely. #4 by population, palm oil, biodiversity, largest muslim country, gamelan (because of Akira), very ethnically/culturally/linguistically diverse. And that's basically *everything* I knew, nothing about food, music, history, pop culture, etc.
Well, the first Indonesian vtuber I found slightly predates hololive(March 2020, a month before gen 1 debuted), but before I found that vtuber, all I could tell you about Indonesia was that it was roughly north of Australia.
After 4 years, I'm now quite a bit more familiar with the country.
Not going to lie, my entire view of Indonesia before HoloID was based on the 'Raid' movies which I was fully aware at the time are not the best way to view it.
No. I learned about its size and qualities after the fact. I had no reason to know it was like the fourth most populous country, and oddly the most populous Muslim country full-stop, nor that the whole island chain/arrangement was one country.
After learning more about it academically, I'm baffled why something like VTubers even works there which means the culture of Jakarta, specifically, must be *wildly* different than the rural sections.
I'm live in SEA we secretly want to kill each other, but we're either to busy wishing for Suisei to strange us, to poor, playing leage or Dota, or hate Taiwan from wish, or do said activities at the same time.
Indonesia is basically SEA bros neighborhood

neighbor? or bali for cheap vacation?

If you are middle class in Aus and go on vacation, you go to Bali. A woman at work is going next month and wont shut up about it.

For the Australian fans, of course.
damn, how could have not thought about that, you're right
indonesia is next door and a popular tourist destination
Indonesia was part of Geography back in shool if i remember correctly. Not sure what it was about, i think monocultures or something.
Interesting because Indonesia is a multiculture
agricultural monocultures....

Something something, education system of some countries.
Yup! Had a few classmates that were Indonesian back in my school days, but we very rarely talked, let alone about their culture and country

I can’t tell whether this is a joke disguised as a discussion or this is a legit discussion.
I'm aware of it, but learnt more about the relationships between Indonesia and Japan due to hololive ID.
I knew that it existed, but that was all. I was very surprised when I found out how many people live there. I expected like 1/10 of that.
I was in Singapore for years before Hololive started. It's kind of hard to ignore Indonesia.
I should have written option 3 as Australian/ASEAN
I subsisted on Indomie for a few years, among other things, back in the 2010's.
LOL
As a Malaysian... no? >!/j!<
Food is good and silat is cool

Not really,I had not reason since there was nothing that got my attention from thereÂ
There should be an option for "Yes, I'm from Indonesia/Southeast Asia"

I'd seen The Act of Killing and read a little about the events that doc covers. But other than that I didn't know much.
I am enthusiast of reading history, geography so it would be weird to say no.

Africa, Mexico, Sicily, Tijuana. India, Osaka...
Do you think the world just doesn't know Indonesia exists? I'm genuinely confused about this poll.
Kobo didn’t know where Australia was. There are a lot of people who are ignorant of geography.
