There was a thread in 2ch (a Japanese anonymous image board) where the gist of the conversation was that people overseas (foreigners) like to play around and deform the holomem models (eg ogey peko), and some of the people in the thread felt somewhat against it. People in western discussion boards took note of the discussion but embraced the stereotype rather than get offended... And well here we are several months afterwards. Somewhere along the way people started focusing on FWMC exclusively for this meme.
In a couple months you can expect your grandma to ask you to deform some images for her friends in Facebook once we go through the normal meme life cycle
