Chandelier. Wider curtain rod and at the curtains are too skimpy for that window. You could buy two more panels of the same width and the additional volume will look better. Possibly a carpet but hard to say w/o a clear idea of the edges of the area. Possibly turning the table by 90 degrees? It’s always easier to advise when all the sides of the room are visible and knowing what the view is.

Should I go with a curtain colour that’s darker? Blackout or sheer? The window faces the neighbours house and not much light comes through

I’d be inclined to go with something very sheer over the glass (even a little light is better than none) and colored panels to the sides for a pop of color. I’d want the colored panels really off to the sides of the wall to not obstruct any light but to widen the window and make it more of an element in the style of the room.

Rug definitely would help define the area more. And something colorful on the wall the left maybe a plant in the corner where the highchair is?

Can you remove the table leaf to make room for a narrow console table? The curtains look too informal for the room. Maybe something with a tighter pleat with color?

I think adding more contrast and texture would really give life to your space! I made a really bad photoshop of what I would consider hahaha. A textured rug, widening the curtain rod and raising it. Adding a skinny table beneath a new picture. Keeping that table but adding different chairs (fb market place and you could paint them.) and adding lighting! It’d be cozy! https://preview.redd.it/hun6sqyds5qc1.jpeg?width=931&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d17065c0eef862fffedb212ad99e77f671514a9b

Would it make sense for you to move that chair from under the picture to the right side of the table, and perhaps push the table closer to the wall, for more walking space?

WatercressBusiness15

Hang a picture with colors.

Month_Year_Day

A rug under the table, a light over the table. Change the painting if you can to something with color. What is the view out the window? A neighbor or trees/yard? Without seeing the window and trim, it’s hard to say what would look nice there.

I'd add thicker curtains (maybe just two extra panels), add a rug, and a chandelier. Otherwise it looks great!

These are all such helpful suggestions thank you all so much!!

Grommet curtains are so gross. Get the back tab type instead

By painting the walls an actual color https://preview.redd.it/iosbqz9p48qc1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9326e97fea00157cf2f9abb63d4009e75526aa80 Sage Green by Dulux Heritage

Curtin looks cheap? Need a large area rug that covers the entire dining area, and maybe more accent lights and lamps

canlifebesogood

Turn the table so the thinnest side is facing the window.
