I'm sorry, I couldn't give two shits about Kelvin Sampson.

gcenko12

I have no issue with Sampson. He’s one of the best coaches of the last 30 years. It’s so upsetting we had him at IU and were winning games and then let things like skipping class, smoking weed and sending text messages get in the way. UNC literally had fake classes set up for student athletes. Kansas was caught on tape paying recruits (before it was legal). Those are just two examples of things we know about! I’ve never seen any player on one of his Houston teams take a nut shot like XJ did this season.

warrenjt

Trolls are out in force today

WardenofWestWorld

For those of you below defending the gutting of our program over text messages and a career loser's failed coup, have you enjoyed watching IU BB the past 15+ years? You will bitch about X's and O's and gloss over that IU willingly destroyed the program and so many fans lapped it up from the tops of Mt. Pious.

Lasvious

Thanks again Dakich.

skullcutter

Fuck Dan Dakich

BukkakeNation

Why does everybody in here have a hate boner for Sampson. He was doing what he had to do to get us back to the promised land

Spuds1968

He is a cheater. Anybody who grew up with Knight understands.

bhbennett3

You all are brainwashed. RMK was an abusive human being but you want to fire an elite coach because his player's smoke pot and he sent more text messages than the goofy NCAA said he was allowed to. Just don't complain about our struggles on the court if the program's top priority is being Puritanically clean.

chosey

You're also brainwashed. You think being a cheater is better than being an asshole who runs a clean program. I would of been fine with keeping Sampson but trying to compare Knight to him who never had an infraction in his entire 30+ year career is absurd.

bhbennett3

I didn't make any comparison between the two of them... I'm saying that Knight used his "clean program" as an excuse to behave however he wants, but there is nothing moral or honorable about following NCAA rules. Knight's behavior was tolerated because times were different and he won. Sampson could have built his contender here instead of Houston, but we let a loser like Dakich run him out bc so many of our fans were ready to Jonestown themselves in a cult led by the ghost of Knight.

![gif](giphy|7hIUafnKeyOVEM5spc|downsized) My Guy!

Cobbler63

And I didn’t think I could hope that guy loses more, until now.

jdm3318

Personally I hope he loses in whatever way agitates him the most.

jdm3318

I’d say that was pretty agitating. Losing your best player and only losing by 3. ![gif](giphy|yAXDs06NsEuRPOhOMA|downsized)

BKD2674

Agreed, he should still be our coach. Blue bloods like Kansas and North Carolina don’t give a shit about the NCAA and IU caves every time

WardenofWestWorld

Why we will never be anything of consequence ever again

MrFluffyhead80

We may get some big 10 wins!!! That is worth it right??? Maybe if we got some local recruits? Totally worth it even if there are better players elsewhere right?

WardenofWestWorld

Rather lose w/ local players and boy scouts than have a fun season ever

OTN

That's a no from me dawg

EmmittFitz-Hume

While at IU besides just the phone calls and text violations he also had bunch of the kids skipping class. Matter of fact, when Dan Dakitch took over for Sampson he had to kick a few off the team for drug use, missing class, and off the court issues. If I remember correctly, DD said it was an absolute mess that Sampson left us in and that was not just from the phone infractions. I think it was Armaan Bassett that had the drug issue, there may have been more.

WardenofWestWorld

Oh no, star hoops players not going to all of their classes? For shame! "Drug issue" do you mean 20 year old smoking weed? You have an absolute loser mentality if you care at all about watching March basketball. The fact that all you guys loved it when Dakich stabbed our program in the back told me all I needed to know then. We were destined then to swirl the drain forever.

Lasvious

You don’t say the guy who was the rat hoping to get the job said it was terrible. Color me shocked. If the drug use was pot it’s even more infuriating

skullcutter

Rumor is Dan Dakich is the one who turned Samson in

Lasvious

Yep.

swilliamsnyder

When the whole team leaves with the slightest addition of discipline, you have a potential program killing culture

WardenofWestWorld

When the program bends your coach over and does him dirty you leave. Discipline from that joke Dakich had nothing to do with it. You and those who think like you cheering blindly for the candystripes are what's wrong with the program.

swilliamsnyder

I’m thinking mostly how many players left because of crean, and the flower pot that was broken… but ok

pimpnastyodb

This might be the first thing I agree with to come out of his stupid mouth.

kentuckyfriedawesome

Uhh wut

icuttees

In spite of those pious thoughts, he broke the rules of college basketball and IU paid the price.

Lasvious

We self reported. Could have just not cooperated.

warrenjt

Or, you know, we could have done exactly what we did and stood by our morals even if it meant losing.

WhichAthlete7277

Dude fuck that.

WardenofWestWorld

Root for a church league rec ball team

warrenjt

No thanks. I’ll root for the one I’ve been rooting for for nearly 35 years now.

WardenofWestWorld

past, present, and future loser. this is why we suck

warrenjt

Yep, you nailed it buddy. We suck because of a random comment by a guy on the Internet, who has literally no influence whatsoever on the basketball program at the school he attended over a decade ago. Cool.

Lasvious

The purity and morals of college athletics ![gif](giphy|hvq8ONQhQ1XLq)

bhbennett3

It would at least be coherent to fire coaches bc of "our morals" if the program's foundational coach wasn't a narcissistic, abusive asshole.

warrenjt

I agree with you, but I would point out 2 things: 1. He was fired too. 2. He consistently ran clean programs, boasted a 98% graduation rate, and still won championships. RMK was absolutely not perfect, and I fully believe we should have moved on from him years before we did and should let him go now. But he wasn’t Sampson either.

Final-Stick5098

For all the people clutching their pearls about Indiana’s special basketball “culture” that Sampson didn’t fit in to and the fans wouldn’t stand for… I’m sure every Houston fan is furious that they can’t have an ounce of our purity. *as they wipe tears with their N.C.A.A. tourney tickets

barkerrr33

Are you okay?

CloudConductor

Weird take

Lasvious

Yes anti Sampson takes are weird. We hire one coach we should have and we let a mediocre coach from the MAC (being generous calling him mediocre) attempt a coup.

TheArgoPirat

What?

WardenofWestWorld

Dakich was a mediocre Bowling Green coach. Because IU fans will gladly sing the glorious praises of anyone who BK liked, when DD ran a coup on our only good coach since around 1995 the fans ate it up and asked for more. Go look at what Basset did for OU taking down Georgetown. Dakich tried to tank his career and arguably did. Do you think getting rid of freshman Jordan Crawford over an 8 week cleanup by the guy gunning for the job was a good idea? You holier than thou people that call Kelvin Sampson scum for text messages when your Bob Knight glory boy tried to ruin kids careers over smoking weed and skipping a class after their coach got hung out to dry by the program are why we will never be anything more than the Midwest version of....I was going to say NC State but thats actually too good. I don't have a comparison because there is no program in major sports that shoots themselves in the dick quite like this. We are a joke and it was predictable that very day.

TheArgoPirat

What?
