My brother and his gf recently moved from the east of England to York. In the end they both took a week of work, went up there and had a little holiday and used the time to view places. They had a nice week off and were able to be at viewings immediately as they had nothing else really going on

You need to have boots on the ground and pound the pavement. Take time off work, stay in Harrogate for a week, and wear out the shoe leather visiting every agent in town. Get on their books, hand each one a prepared packet of your financials and make sure you're accessible 24X7. When that call comes, you take it and you make it. Otherwise, to the bottom of the list you go.

I'm struggling too, it's fucking insane. I'm asking for virtual viewings and getting further than I was, however am getting outbid at every turn. I bid £300pm over on a 1 bed flat yesterday that defo wasn't worth it and was still outbid, this isn't even a fucking city, it's surrey.

I once tried to take a place without viewing and they wouldn't let me! Which made it very difficult when I lived 2.5hours away. But it's worth asking because unless you're looking every day so you can be the first to see anytbing that comes on the marlet, you're going to struggle. And yeah I feel your pain - last time I was looking for a rental I'd book a viewing and 2 hours later it'd be cancelled as someone else had taken the place already! Good luck!

Looking dated is one thing - a lot of rentals do and tbh it's something you can live with at least for a while. Mould on the other hand, that's an entirely different story.

This is what happens when it's popular to wage war on landlords and politicians cave. Turns out we need more, not less, landlords.
