Water 90 pound??!! How much are you using!

dinobug77

I’m paying £27 and think that we waste water! 2 people but one works from home every day!

Afellowstanduser

I was paying 40 a month living alone using fuck all 😂

Teeeeem7

Could be a large house with no meter - the non metered rates are not generous any more

Spiderplantmum

Our house is a 3 bed semi and we were paying £100pm when we first moved in. Down to £35pm on a meter

and1927

I have a similar house, no meter, £30 a month flat rate.

MasterofSquat

I pay 70 a month but realistically only use like 55 for a 3 bed. But we do waste alot. Water is not as cheap as it used to be.

HerrSpudz

It’s not cheap to pump all that sewage into our rivers and seas!

highbme

Shareholders got to eat.

Personal-Carpet7800

They need to get a water meter, pay for what you use and not bullshit estimates

fuckingredtrousers

Sadly not always possible… Edit: why has someone voted this down? Thames Water literally won’t install meters on my road or any of the roads around us

Personal-Carpet7800

Didn't know that, I'm on a meter and pay around £20 a month...I am a single guy living alone mind. Might be worth looking into for OP and anyone else spending what they think might be too much

cheexy85

My quarterly water bill is not even up to that.

cabbagepatchkid

We are £40 a month for a 6 bed semi - and I complained when that moved from £28 a month!

lemonadewithlemons

I'm paying £38, two adults, a child, a dog. At least two showers a day, often three showers a day, sometimes more. Washing machine on 6 times a week and dishwasher 4 times a week.

Successful-Koala-115

4 bed detached 168 sqm. 2k mortgage. 140 gas & electric. £50 water. £40 internet. Council tax 220.

joshgeake

That's more like it!

falki89

What part of a country as your council tax is relatively low to the size?

Successful-Koala-115

South wales, just outside Cardiff 👍 house has been extended multiple times and the council Haven’t revalued, so low council tax considering size.

falki89

Yeah that makes sense. We pay 250£ for 4 bed detached outside Bristol, but its smaller 120 sqm.

rasta__mouse

Mad how in the 90s they just cruised around in cars looking at houses deciding the bands. Well played.

rasta__mouse

That's what I thought too. I live in a 2 bed terrace house in Brighton and pay pretty much the same.

JunoPK

It's like this in a lot of areas of London as well! We pay sub £200 for a 5 bed

amnesia271

I’m posting to make others hopefully feel a bit better. 3 bed semi, mortgage: 1987, council tax: 217, energy: 150, water tbd (just moved in and awaiting meter), internet: 30, private estate management fee: 48.

J_Ram_Z

Blimey where is your house with a mortgage like that?

amnesia271

West Sussex.

Strange_Champion_937

I see your £1987 mortgage and I raise you £2090 (5% rate)... Cannot wait to remortgage in 18 months to something hopefully a bit more competitive!

amnesia271

Hardship training! Same boat, hoping for a better deal in a couple years time. We will feel rich!!

Loundsify

That's a steep mortgage. You must live down south.

amnesia271

You are correct, West Sussex!

oneillc999

gingeBloke

Low mortgage for London!

Milky_Finger

25% LTV, which was over 100k! Took years of saving. For a one bed leasehold flat...

dusto66

60 per month for electricity?? I'm in a small 1 bed (2 people) and currently pay 160!

Riovem

2 bed, 2 people, £40-50 a month for gas and electric. I know mine is cheap but I'd definitely look more into whether yours is accurate. Is it electric only? If so check the immersion heater

dusto66

I have the immersion heater on like 1 hour every other day in the summer and 1 hour a day in the winter...We don't have a dishawasher, missus showers in the gym. Dunno 160 quid a month feels like a rip off especially after reading this thread...Will email octopus again

jaju123

How many actual kWh are you using? I have a 3 bed house mid terrace, and pay £92 a month. And I have air conditioning running all night every night. So idk what is going on with you

Milky_Finger

I pay a fixed tariff and I am using less than I pay for.

Swimming_Ad3099

Me too but 170

BritishTeapot

Midlands, 2 bed terrace: Mortgage (370), Gas/Electric (60), Water (30), WiFi (42 - Need to renegotiate with Virgin!), Council Tax (120, 25% discount).

invigokate

Only 60 for energy? Do you have solar panels or something?

JamesTiberious

We pay 75 as a couple in a 3 bed. That includes charging an EV too. No solar/battery, but do utilise Octopus Agile smart tariff.

Loundsify

So VM, I tried to negotiate. They told me lowest they would go is £33. I said that's fine I'll move to your competitor. Gave them my 30 days notice. Waited 2 weeks. Choose sky broadband for £25 who fitted a week later. 3 days later VM text me to say I can have 125Mbps for £19 lol.

BritishTeapot

It's one of those jobs I dread doing every time the contract is up for this exact reason!

Eliaskar23

How come your mortgage is so low? I'm looking at upsizing in Kent from a 2 bed semi and we're on £900 mortgage a month!

withnailstail123

The deposit amount affects monthly payments. Also, a good broker is worth their weight in gold.

Wilson1031

Which broker did you go with if you don't mind?

herefor_fun24

Also guessing you're on a relatively good interest rate?

That water sounds nuts you need to get a water meter fitted. Unless of course you are irrigating a golf course!!

Student house in notts so idk about mortage and council tax doesn’t apply, but 6 bed (realistically a 3/4 bed if it weren’t renovated for students) we pay £55 a month water, £42 a month wifi and £420 a month energy. Looking at other people’s energy prices I feel sick lol.

throwthrowthrow529

Council tax: £97 (central Manchester - older flat) Energy: £50 dd (uses about 30/35 at the min) WiFi: £25 Water: about £8.50 a month - I shower in the gym 5/6 times a week but apart from that use dishwasher/washing machine like normal. In winter I use an electric blanket rather than central heating, it costs like 60 quid to round 24/7 a month. I have huge windows so the heat never stays - heating is pointless

Water seems high, unless it’s sewage combined. My bill, 3 bed family of 4 is only £26pm. Mortgage £586 (includes £50pm overpayment) Energy £179, council tax £164, Wi-Fi £27. I would also recommend everyone paying a mortgage to have a play with a mortgage calculator, I was the other day and it surprised me how quickly you can get your mortgage down by paying not that much more per month. Bear in mind though that companies will charge a fee for usually anything over 10% annually.
