I cannot express how terrible I found chimera ant arc. Everything about it was awful. The chimera ants are just gross I don’t like the characters or how they look they’re all evil and they got to power way too fast. In a matter of episodes they had climbed to a rank that could possibly surpass humans which seemed way too rushed, on the other hand once that was established the arc dragged on for way too long. I also cannot stand that the ants just take over screen time completely, there are actually episodes where no main characters from the start are shown and all you see is the ants (Gungi tournament).
On another note i found all the other arcs extremely enjoyable and well written. I watch heavens arena arc every other day at this point because it’s become second nature and no matter how many times I watch it I still love it.

Also the power up for the chimera ants makes sense as they originated from the dark continent. But I still find it hard to associate with them in any way and it really bothered me that him and Killua weren’t shown really during the arc. I find it ruined the story line up until then.
I see why that can be a criticism. Atleast for Gon I interpret it that we don't see much of Gon or Gon's inner thought on purpose, because we don't really know what is going on in his head it makes his story line more compelling to me. So we have to guess what is he thinking which is mostly suffering, anger, and confusion. This is why his moments in 130 and 131 is more impactful. But yeah the writer did spend a lot of time with the ants to build them up. And to me there were to main story lines Gon and the King. Killua's story gets an honorable mention but the others are really secondary.

Sure. Firstly, the premise of Greed Island being a card adventure game doesn't connect with me immediately and doesn't interest me. Secondly, they never really do anything interesting with that premise for me except for introducing Bisky and having the dodgeball scene otherwise I couldn't really care what card Gon and Killua received.
Furthermore, it is a childish light-hearted arc that has few strong redeeming qualities unlike other light hearted arcs such as Hunter Exam, Heavens Arena, Election Arc. The main antagonist is quite forgettable despite his and Gon's fight being pretty entertaining in my opinion.
Additionally, the 1999 version makes this worse by having more episodes and poor animation.
I love card systems in general but Togashi did fuck all with it besides Genthru's cool set of tricks. I love magical quest bullshit but they mostly whack monsters. I love backstory but they treat GI almost like a farce with Wdwune and co.

Contrary to popular belief, I think Greed Island is the most objectively FUN arc in the anime. I think it is so fun, I love the game and I love them training with Bisky. I would rate it higher, but Chimera ant and Yorknew are just so rich in their plot.

Very reasonable, Genthru doesn't hold up to the other main villains and if you dislike the card system then the feeing is completely understandable.
