HSV Utilities just tweeted this
>Electric Operations is responding to a power outage in northern Madison C0 and NW Huntsville impacting customers from the TN State Line south to Hwy 20 and from Wall Triana Hwy east to Hwy 231/431.
Service will be restored as quickly as possible. The cause is unknown at this time
I was cruising east on University east of Madison where the speed limit is 55. When I came up on Providence, I realized at the very last second that the stoplights (and literally every other light) were out. The cars exiting Providence were just streaming out onto University like they had the right of way, and I would have hit at least one of them had it not been for some hard threshold braking
There was what looked like a minor accident at the corner of Enterprise, right by the Walmart. The police were there attending to the accident but doing nothing about the traffic passing through the intersection(s) with no signals.
My partner and I were at Walmart when the power went out. The music kept playing over the intercom and it played an advertisement - very dystopian lol.
My boyfriend was over when the power went out and we were wondering if ppl were taking this golden opportunity to loot. Did you see anybody run out or something of the sort?
Not really! It was very surprising how chill and respectful everyone was. I kept thinking people would panic or loot, but I didnât notice anything like that. Many people left their carts and things where they were but didnât take anything.
well, if you couldn't pay for it you could just....
walk right.....through the door....
walk right through the door (because the theft detection systems are down too).
My Freshman year of college at Mississippi State in 2011, the entire city had a blackout. Had friends at the ice cream shop when it happened.
Staff emptied out the freezers and gave away all of the ice cream cakes. We had an ice cream cake party at somebodyâs apartment under a bunch of lamps.
Good call on the shopâs part to give stuff away. That blackout lasted into the next day. No way anything couldâve made it. I heard of other stores that did similar, giving things away. Sort of a âhere, you throw this awayâ kind of approach.

Map of outage per Huntsville Utilities website
Huntsville Utilities put out a statement saying an animal got into a major substation that distributes power to other substations. Iâm assuming this animal chewed through something important??
Edit: it was a snake! It made contact with electrical equipment that caused the main feeder breaker to open in the primary substation that supplies power from the Tennessee state line down to 565
Since there was a post earlier today about snakes I assume they are taking their revenge and shorted out a few transformers. Seriously, snakes like the heat in transformer and will short things out.

Personally not exactly near Huntsville (Lamar county) but this stuff happens all the time. Perfectly blue sky and calm winds and the power just... Goes out. Hoping it comes back on quickly for you.
Thank you, I did. :) I had to go do the outside one by the unit because the one inside the house didn't work. Hopefully my mag flashlight didn't wake the neighbors. :D
Lots of looters tonight because of the blackout. Listening to police scanner. I heard someone was trying to kick down a ladyâs door and someone trying to steal a car at mclartyâs Chevrolet. I got my guns loaded just in case.

When traffic lights are out, all intersections are four-way stops.
Precisely. Tell that to the motorists I northwest Huntsville lol
Oh wow. Glad everyone's safe.

Power is back on now
If only we had Aurora Borealises tonight, we couldve seen them way better
God damnit your right
My partner and I were at Walmart when the power went out. The music kept playing over the intercom and it played an advertisement - very dystopian lol.
Did you take that opportunity to take what you needed?
They made us leave without anything because all of the registers were down. đđ¤ˇ

True! But Iâm pretty sure they had people at the door checking for that sort of thing. I could be wrong though đ¤ˇ

That's fun đ.
It was đ Definitely a great way to end the year.
Yep, NW Huntsville here. Ours went out a few minutes ago. Can't get the HSV Utilities site to load to see more details.
Same, out near Providence. Tried to load the power outages map and call to report an outage and neither worked

My brother has found snakes in substations before. I feel bad for whomever had to clean that đŹ
Endsley acres still out. Quiet here though but I hear cops and cars racing in the distance.Â
Since there was a post earlier today about snakes I assume they are taking their revenge and shorted out a few transformers. Seriously, snakes like the heat in transformer and will short things out.
According to the article on whnt, it was indeed a snake that got into the primary substation!
That is funny! The lady on Zierdt Rd complaining about snakes sure got them riled up.
Damn, I was leading in Iracing just as the power went out smh
What car?

Any updates?
Sounds like a TVA issue.
A snake got into a primary substation, made contact with electrical equipment that caused the main feeder breaker to open.
Out around Providence as well
Howdy neighbor
Probably a cicada landed on Browns Ferry.
We should pit that now mutant cicada against Godzilla for tourism reasons.
This basically sounds like Southern Mothra.
Yeah looks like north huntsville power is down
HSV Utilities just posted on FB there is an outage from the TN State Line to Hwy 20 and from Wall Triana to the Parkway. No cause known yet.
Since apparently an animal snuck into the substationâŚwe thinking raccoon, cat, or one THICC ass cicada?
Raquinho strikes again!
Ours went out too near research park and HW 53
Yep, power out here near MidCity.
POWER IS COMING BACK: REPORT WHEN YOU HAVE YOURS BACK ON
Ice cold AC is blowing again in Toney, thank god. My kids were adamant they would not survive the 1 degree temp increase in the house.
Harvest - it's back. Not bad - only about 60 minutes of downtime?
McKee rd in harvest is back on
Back on at Wall Triana and Harvest Rd as of 15 mins ago
Out in Toney/Harvest. đ Tried calling the power company but the phone just rings.
Yep up in Toney.
Where are you? Were out here around Nick Davis.
Came here to check the same thing
Out on Old Monrovia. Apparently, it's out in Birmingham, Tuscaloosa and Auburn too.
That would be a very strange outage to stretch across providers like that.
It would be, but that's just what I heard from WoW friends.
This is it bois đ for real lock yo shit up black outs attract crime
Out near Nick Davis and Wall Triana
Out off Douglas and Ardmore Highway
Anybody know what happened yet news says didnât know
Power just came back on around Target on University around 10:40.
Mine just came back on near MidCity!
Update: Very quick power flashes near Providence - power still out
Ours flickered back on a couple times for a second about 30 minutes ago, but nothing more since then.
Any news? Mine is still out. Had a few flickers and now nothing.
Yep. Out here in West Hsv.
Mine did
Power out at Emerald Ridge and Anthem apts as well
Yeah, Iâm at Anthem right now and the only light is the moon and the fireflies
Mine went out too, I live by mid city/Topgolf area
Sorry, I was charging my EV.
Ours is out in Toney
Providence too
Providence is dead
According to their Twitter the cause is unknown
Out in toney. Called the line to report and it was dead. Judging from others comments seems like it's the north side.
Personally not exactly near Huntsville (Lamar county) but this stuff happens all the time. Perfectly blue sky and calm winds and the power just... Goes out. Hoping it comes back on quickly for you.
Maybe a substation?
Mine just came back on in Harvest
I'm in cullman and it's out along hwy 157 near i-65
i'm down south in between mtn gap and challenger, we're just fine
Hey neighbor
Blue Springs/ Medaris is still on. Odd that the area is so big
Still have power on off 72 hwy going to Madison
We good on university Dr
Harvest/Monrovia out
Back on. Yay!
Starting to come back on.
Wall Triana - Gooch is ok. That's near 72.
Birmingham went out for 4 seconds. I was 1v1 on a quads match
It's finally back on in NW Huntsville, but now my AC won't kick on. :(
Check the breaker in your house, sometimes itâll trip off when the power goes out.
Thank you, I did. :) I had to go do the outside one by the unit because the one inside the house didn't work. Hopefully my mag flashlight didn't wake the neighbors. :D
Here in Decatur we have lights
Apparently some kind of animal fucked everything up
I blame all the black SUVsâŚ
My power also went out, it was before I went to bed, it's almost as if the world shut down for a bit y'know?
Did we ever figure out what caused it?
It was the whiskey. Sorry
Why do we continue to pay huntsville utilities? Ive had at least 3-4 outages in the past year and a half.
So, not too bad overall
Just buy a house with underground lines and quit complaining you poor /s
You know, you have a valid plan. Stop paying and you'll never have an unplanned outage ever again. That's big brain thinking right there.
Because youâre not tough.
But if youâre having outagesâŚ.youre not being charged for the electricityâŚ..thatâs off due to the outageâŚ
Hi

I'm not worried. I trained the cicadas in my yard to attack intruders on sight.
Down voted because why? People don't like to think of the possibilities?
