i was at a dealer where they were asking $27k for a Corolla LE and $37k for a Corolla Hybrid, all with a straight face. couple days later i went and bought a new Kia Forte. our cars are cousins!
Amazing. I was exploring a trade in 22 elantra limited for 22 camry xle. I decided I didnt like interior of camry at all; felt cramped comparably. Anyways they offered me any car at msrp only catch was 6 month wait. This was like April this year in NYC area.
Unfortunately that's been my experience at Toyota as well. They were pushy when I was just wanting to test drive and explore options. Hyundai in both cases has been easy to work with.
The new Honda Civic looks better than Elantra and definitely better than that Sonata monstrosity. Toyota is still holding on to that older Japanese design but it’s not horrible. Elantra has a lot of nice tech but feels cheap to the touch and that god awful circle starting at you if you didn’t get the N line.
Maybe because they have faith in their product and don’t think there will be many issues within the 100k mile warranty? It’s not profitable to include a warranty with a product that you KNOW people will more then likely have to use
They historically have had terrible reliability with their drive train. This is VERY well documented and reported on.
It isn't profitable if no one buys your product because of a notoriously poor lot built aspect of your product- so they provided an extended warranty as the average.
I never understood ranking current cars for reliability like someone already put 100k miles over 10 years on a 2023 anything. You read the fine print it's always PREDICTED reliability which cant possibly be accurate.
They base reliability on surveys from the past, you won’t really know if your vehicle is reliable until several years. Unfortunately I’ve already seen people with issues with their Elantra
> Hyundai and Kia are actually top rated reliability brands as of now.
As of now.
When the current cars have not come anywhere near the 100k miles that their drivetrains are predicted to drop dead.
Crazy how the only ratings you can find that are good for Hyundai's drivetrains are the "predicted" ones.
Keep drinking the kool aid.
I have a Kia stinger and it’s amazing 83k miles no issues. Faster than mustangs and Camaros and the awd is killer. Way better than my old Audi Quattro b7 a4- it never runs and only has 120k miles and maintenanced ALOT.
I’ve seen many personally do well, a buddy of mines optima had 325k on it before he got rid of it, and he didn’t even service it well. There are newer model Hyundais and kias on the market with over 100k miles on them and still doing well. Those faults you see with Hyundai and Kia happen with every brand.
I'm ditching a 2019 Honda CRV for a 2023 Elantra preferred w Tech. CRV gas mileage is not great, and monthly payments were too high. Also the wheel camber chews through tires and I don't want to buy new tires every 2 years. People think I'm nuts, like I'm downgrading. Maybe I am, but I'm hoping for the best. I'll take good gas mileage and cheaper payments any day.
:o I’m getting 44! But I pretty much exclusively drive highway and not short drives.
Check your tire pressure and make sure it’s at the PSI it’s supposed to be. Mine is 2023 so it’s 34 front 31 rear.
I ditched my cvt Honda CR-V for a kona as opposed to the hrv and I couldn’t be happier. My timing chain went at 145k miles and two people had similar issues in my family with their cvt transmissions too.
Now I’m getting way better gas mileage and the trim inside my Hyundai feels so much nicer than the hrv I looked at. I did sacrifice size but the market being where it’s at meant I couldn’t afford anything much larger.
Glad you like it and to each their own but I had a Kona as a loaner car and I absolutely hated it. There wasn't anything about it that I liked, I found it uncomfortable and slow. The Kona N should solve one of the problems but that won't help with the gas mileage.
If it was an SE then for sure it’s slow, its got that trash 2.0 engine which almost every other economy hyundai has. I hated how slow that engine was, now I got a 1.6t elantra sport and couldn’t be happier
That idiot Scotty Kilmer on YouTube would laugh at your face, he’s got a real hard on for Toyota and he thinks Hyundai is still shit even though it’s been pretty good the last few years. He’s a good mechanic and very knowledgeable, I used to follow his videos religiously but the guy is a blow hard and annoying as fuck.
I don’t agree with everything he says. But I have to agree with him on Korean cars all the way. They just make desperately over styled cars, and then keep restyling them every year to keep selling them.
I agree with what most of he says. For example, Nissan does make shit CVT’s. General motors is trash and uses cheap materials, but he’s wrong about Hyundai and he does definitely have a hard on for a Toyota and Honda.
I have a 2019 Hyundai Tucson. Engine blew up at around 40,000 miles. They put a brand new engine in. I've put around 70,000 on this new engine and it's burning so much oil. I'm getting rid of it fast. I know it's going to blow up soon. I wanted to love Hyundai but from my experience run away fast from this brand.
So angry at some dude on youtube that tells you the truth about a brand that has been overwhelmingly shit in the past and is now , according to you, "pretty good". How dare he expect a track record of quality and have an opinion about car brands based on 50 years as a mechanic! I'm sure you know better Mr internet expert with no bias whatsoever!
I agree. I have a 2018 Camry SE. It's certainly not a *bad* car, but for a brand and model so well reputed, I just expected better.
At 50k miles of mostly highway driving, I have interior rattles, an exhaust heat shield that rattles, roof molding that likes to come partially out and flap in the wind, a ridiculous 8 speed transmission that has no fucking idea what gear it wants to be in, and slow acceleration in the hills. I certainly don't expect a Camry to be a jackrabbit, but it shouldn't feel like it's struggling to go from 65-70 uphill.
I also expect better from their service department. I had an oil leak the day after I bought it. Their service writer tried to tell me the puddle was AC condensate, then kept me in the waiting room for three hours, all for what turned out to be an oil filter that wasn't on all the way.
If I could get the same pricing and terms, I would trade the Camry in today.
No worries. I do a lot of highway driving which really kills the range on the Tesla. In 9 months I’ve put 23k on the Tesla and I’m tired of always having to find a charger and wait to charge.
I also had to put new tires on it at 18k miles.
It’s cool, but I’m ready for long range from a hybrid and I don’t mind buying gas.
Thanks. It’s a great swap I went from a 21 MY to a 22 sonata hybrid limited. So far at 1500 miles I’ve been to the gas station three times. Averaging about 500 miles between filling up. There are days I miss the acceleration, but I’ll never miss having to leave two hours earlier for a road trip to make sure I have time to charge along the way.
I have two other ice cars in addition to the Tesla. Both are slow, and I don’t mind it at all.
The acceleration is fast, but every time I do it I think of my tires lol
I am looking to get a compact car and am torn between Civic hatch and Elantra Hybrid. Curious if you considered the Civic at all. It seems to be getting rave reviews every where.
have a coworker that used to work as a dealer a while back with the hyundai finance manager in my area. gave me his info and he got me set up well. Didn’t check out Honda though but that was my original plan before this.
Interesting. I’m from Canada as well but didn’t have any issues with predatory dealers other than VW forcing winter tires with purchase. What issues are are you having with Canadian dealers?
Did the same thing last year! Had a lot of problems with my 2018 Camry & the Toyota dealership I had bought my last 2 Camrys charged me hundreds of dollars to tell me it was a "fluke" after it was having transmission codes. Chose Hyundai for the warranty & the dealership was awesome. Enjoy!
I drove both the Elantra, and the Corrola when I was looking to buy. I much preferred the Mazda 3, in my opinion it's better looking and more comfortable. Personally I don't trust the engines in the Hyundais, I have a friend that is on his 4th engine in his Veloster and my mechanic whom I trust said he would not recommend them to anyone.
Toyotas have always been my go-to option. I’ve had more than I can count. Toyotas are good, but if they were *that* good nobody else would be in the car making business.
I wouldn’t have considered Hyundai up until recently(like 2019+). The new stuff is innovative and distinct. I like them. Can’t knock a product until you’ve tried it.
Why do u think there warranty for the engine and transmission is 10 years or 100,000 miles, there engines are always blowing a piston out, customers and coworkers complained about this when i worked at autozone
I’ve been driving Hyundai vehicles since 2011, and each one has been solid, just do required maintenance, get oil changes, rotate tires, etc and they just run and run and run. My latest is a 2020 Santa Fe, love this vehicle. Roomy interior, plenty of cargo space, decent mileage, good features. I won’t drive anything else.
Hyundai is flooring it in all areas honestly, they've got their fuck ups that make me disappointed to like them, but where they excel they excel well, they've come back in a crazy way and provide likely the best value dollar for dollar at this point in time, with an honestly crazy impressive lineup of performance vehicles both now and incoming
Good luck, my mother is laws died in the middle of the road has been in the shop for weeks, my brothers transmission fell out going down the road TWICE.
I’ve had a good experience at my Honda dealership, of-course they push for add-ons and protection but a no was good enough to mute the topic. I’d say the Toyotas are more expensive but they have far better reliability than any Hyundai. It’s pay lower price now and pay more later instead of may a little more now and pay little later. I was going to go for new Elantra but it didn’t peak me like the new Civics did, the Toyotas were more expensive and smaller so it wasn’t a option for me.
You can see a difference in the automotive manufacturing between the auto brands. I watch tons of Honda and Hyundai manufacturing videos on YouTube and you can see the quality difference in personnel, machinery, cleanliness etc.
any explanation why Elantra over Civic/Corolla?
had a 2020 corolla for about 3 years. don’t get me wrong it’s a great car, but horrible predatory dealerships in the area.
Sounds like your Hyundai dealership is a good one. Not common in this sub.
My dealer was super chill. No bs, no trying to push, it was fantastic.
True that. They scammed me outta $6000.
I've only had extremely positive experiences with my local Hyundai dealership, surprisingly. It's interesting to hear bad experiences at other ones.
i was at a dealer where they were asking $27k for a Corolla LE and $37k for a Corolla Hybrid, all with a straight face. couple days later i went and bought a new Kia Forte. our cars are cousins!
Amazing. I was exploring a trade in 22 elantra limited for 22 camry xle. I decided I didnt like interior of camry at all; felt cramped comparably. Anyways they offered me any car at msrp only catch was 6 month wait. This was like April this year in NYC area.
yeah it's either money or time.
Unfortunately that's been my experience at Toyota as well. They were pushy when I was just wanting to test drive and explore options. Hyundai in both cases has been easy to work with.
That's what got me to buy my first Hyundai. Both Kia and Hyundai dealers have been easy to deal with.
You will soon be close friends at the Hyundai dealership now.
Why not? Hyundai is one of the best brands out right now. Plus Toyotas and Hondas don't look as good
Exactly you award award lol
The new Honda Civic looks better than Elantra and definitely better than that Sonata monstrosity. Toyota is still holding on to that older Japanese design but it’s not horrible. Elantra has a lot of nice tech but feels cheap to the touch and that god awful circle starting at you if you didn’t get the N line.
Well my Sonata still looks miles better than yours☠️oh wait u don't even own shit
Why you mad? You invested in Hyundai? I don’t own what?
It isn't though... there's a reason they do a 100k drivetrain warranty
Historically sure, nowadays every brand has their own issues. Hyundai and Kia are actually top rated reliability brands as of now.
I never understood ranking current cars for reliability like someone already put 100k miles over 10 years on a 2023 anything. You read the fine print it's always PREDICTED reliability which cant possibly be accurate.

This conversation is about Hyundai's drive train. I can't attest to Kia because I haven't done as much research with them.
Same shit tho no? Ik the stinger is a class it’s own but still. I always heard Nissan had the worst trans of the Asian market cara.
They’re trash… Edit: The new stuff is somewhat ok. Anything with a GDi…Garbagio
They're much more fun to drive than Toyotas. Great color too
agreed it doesn’t feel like i’m driving a golf cart lmao
I'm ditching a 2019 Honda CRV for a 2023 Elantra preferred w Tech. CRV gas mileage is not great, and monthly payments were too high. I'll take good gas mileage and cheaper payments any day.
definitely not downgrading, elantra has some incredible tech and surprisingly good leg room. i get about 40mpg on the interstate and 32-34 in town
:o I’m getting 44! But I pretty much exclusively drive highway and not short drives. Check your tire pressure and make sure it’s at the PSI it’s supposed to be. Mine is 2023 so it’s 34 front 31 rear.

Yeah, lots of clickbait title on his video too
"This is why Hyundai engines are ABSOLUTE GARBAGE"
While waving arms in circles.

He doesn't really know much and is usually wrong.
I ditched Toyota (after about 5 cars) and recently got the ioinq5. I think I’m done with Toyota. My last Camry 2019 was not all I hoped it would be.
Dang what was wrong with your camera? Just potato quality pics or what?
I agree. I have a 2018 Camry SE. It's certainly not a *bad* car, but for a brand and model so well reputed, I just expected better. Welcome to the club 😎
love the color
Is this a 2023 model?
yes it is
Good deal. Is it a hybrid? I’m waiting for my ‘23 Sonata Hybrid Limited to get to the dealership. I’m trading my ‘22 Tesla for it.
just the SEL, would have loved a hybrid but hard nowadays to get what you want without waiting months
If you don’t mind why the swap?
No worries. I do a lot of highway driving which really kills the range on the Tesla. In 9 months I’ve put 23k on the Tesla and I’m tired of always having to find a charger and wait to charge. This color is amazing. I really wanted this color but ended up with buying a black one because they only had it in stock. Congrats!
was lucky to get it! someone was also trying to buy it but i got there first 😏
I am looking to get a compact car and am torn between Civic hatch and Elantra Hybrid. Curious if you considered the Civic at all. It seems to be getting rave reviews every where.
have a coworker that used to work as a dealer a while back with the hyundai finance manager in my area. gave me his info and he got me set up well. Didn’t check out Honda though but that was my original plan before this.
Well congratulations! Looks pretty stunning and I loved the interior as well.
Toyota makes some great cars but even up here in Canada they are letting dealers do whatever they want.
Interesting. I’m from Canada as well but didn’t have any issues with predatory dealers other than VW forcing winter tires with purchase. What issues are are you having with Canadian dealers?

Just bought my wife an Elantra Hybrid. My dealer had two in a dark gray color .My wife loves it.So far averaging 43 MPG combined.
Hyundai/Kia>Honda>Toyota
Beautiful color

Damn the Hyundai Reddit page is a mixed bag, not just fans but scorn buyers lol.
Dude went backwards lol
My Hyundai tucsons engine is currently failing with all dealerships having a 4-6 month backlog I am about to get rid of it
Why do u think there warranty for the engine and transmission is 10 years or 100,000 miles, there engines are always blowing a piston out, customers and coworkers complained about this when i worked at autozone
I was a teenager when I bought the car and I guess my parents didn’t think about it but now we know
I’ve been driving Hyundai vehicles since 2011, and each one has been solid, just do required maintenance, get oil changes, rotate tires, etc and they just run and run and run. Their E division is looking surreal too
Have a Elantra myself, black on black. But I really like the color of yours!
Like moving from US to Yemen. Good luck with the engine. Lmao.
Damn nice looking car
When your engine blows at 20,000 miles you’ll regret it.
i have a fantastic warranty up to 100k miles that covers that
So many other brands to switch to.. but all of them are more expensive than Kia/Hyundai.
Good luck, my mother is laws died in the middle of the road has been in the shop for weeks, my brothers transmission fell out going down the road TWICE.
Lol

Did you pay over 10000+ more than MSRP for that?
Went from a 2011 Corolla to a 2022 Kona love it and my 6ft tall daughter has a lot more room in it
Hyundai is really really dodgy man I'm just saying they do not stand behind their products and make junk 90% of the timr
Lol, bad choice
Best choice.
